hmm...their podcast mystery theaters sound interesting...

paulseta [TotalFark] 2007-03-25 08:42:55 AM
That is very odd - just watching my first ever episode (Escape 2000 from season 7) right now...

...and it's pretty damned funny (except for the non-film bits).

You should check out Space Mutiny. Might want to have an oxygen tank at the ready - I nearly passed out from laughing so hard.

I would rather watch Elvira or Son of Son of Svengoolie

You should check out Space Mutiny.

Big McLargeHuge!
Slab Beefchunks!

My favorite bit is where our hero screams "AAAAAHHH", then rather slowly and clumsily wedges himself out of the floor waxer/space cart.

You know, Captain, every year of my life I grow more and more convinced that the wisest and the best is to fix our attention on the good, and the beautiful. If you just take the time to look at it.

It wasn't the year 3000. It was set next Sunday.

MST3k isn't MST3k without Joel. Could you watch Catalina Caper with Mike? NOOO

(Does anyone remember what Episode number that sketch is?)

Joel is like the Syd Barrett of MST3K, what happened to that guy?

t3knomanser 2007-03-25 12:33:39 PM
lelio: MST3k isn't MST3k without Joel.

I never got the "Joel was awesome, Mike sucks" crowd. Seasons 8 and 9 were some of the absolute best MST3K episodes ever. Joel was great, but he never seemed as into the show as Mike does.

//Joel's chemistry with the bots was cooler though.

Huzzah!

If you want a real brain-bleeder, watch Red Zone Cuba....

Alien From L.A. with Kathy Ireland

First one I ever saw. Still my favorite.

"My thinker hurts"

TheGrayCat [TotalFark] 2007-03-25 12:49:18 PM
If you want a real brain-bleeder, watch Red Zone Cuba....

Any of the Coleman Francis trio.

Red Zone Cuba "No, YOU shove off!"
Skydivers "Coffee is better than sex!"
Beast of Yucca Flats "Flag on the moon, how did it get there" (no riff is better than that stupid line).

Mugato [TotalFark] 2007-03-25 12:54:22 PM
I'd hope that MSTies would be above a Joel/Mike flame war. I like Mike better but I'm not going to argue the point. I just think the SciFi episodes were a little edgier. I also like the newer Crow but it's all good.

AstroMech 2007-03-25 12:56:13 PM
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Staypuft_Mushmallow_Manz 2007-03-25 01:15:11 PM
Whichever host you saw first, that's the one you like better. Because with the other guy hosting, the voices doing the commentary seem unfamiliar and wrong. End of argument.

dvd collection 4 has three of my favorites:

Dreary German Version of Hamlet: "I thought Frailty's name was Carl"

Space Mutiny: "Fetch my warrior muumuu!"

Overdrawn at the Memory Bank: "We demand that you serve a delicious buffet!"

WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES

Joel was MUCH better than Mike. It is not even close.

/Keep differing opinions off fark, please.

Both Joel and Mike were awesome. However, if I had to choose, I choose Mike.

Mugato: I just think the SciFi episodes were a little edgier.

I also think they got movies that were just... better (to mock).

"You think you can take me? Go ahead on then, it's your move."

I agree with the 'whoever you saw first' assessment. I'm a Joel guy. Mike was okay, but I gave up when Trace Beaulieu (Dr. Forrester) left. Well, I didn't give up, but I didn't like it as much.

I started downloading the 'rifftrax' stuff last summer.

Great stuff, especially the Road House commentary.

BKITU [TotalFark] 2007-03-25 03:28:59 PM
Well, this certainly gets my Schick back into shape! =D

/The "BKITU" nickname came from an old MST3K usenet group
//"Please allow me to reference my earlier codicil about the ineffectiveness of your weaponry against my person! Ha-ha!"

Staypuft_Mushmallow_Manz 2007-03-25 03:33:22 PM
Space Mutiny was a real gem: footage stolen from the old Battlestar Galactica, slowest vehicle chase in movie history in golf cart-floor waxer mobiles, oldest leading lady evar, santa claus as a space captain, a "spaceship" that was obviously a building, right down to clearly visible walls of bricks (or as Servo put it, "This spaceship has a huge basement"), it just goes on and on.

SkippyTheFifthAndMostCommonlyOverlookedApocalypticHorseperson 2007-03-25 03:40:24 PM
I concur with the "whoever you saw first" argument. I like Joel, but he's kinda painful for me to watch -- not that he's not funny (because he's hilarious), but because he wasn't as good of an actor as Mike. I winced everytime you could visibly see Joel reading the script, and that happened a LOT...

/"It's a matching shirt and sofa set!"
//Glad to see these guys continue with the riffing...

kidcthulhu 2007-03-25 04:01:53 PM
I remember finding MST3K on accident one day, "Lost Continent" was on the Comedy Channel. It's been my favorite television show ever since. This is good news.

t3knomanser 2007-03-25 04:18:49 PM
Staypuft_Mushmallow_Manz: oldest leading lady evar

Actually, check out Cissie Cameron's IMDB page (she has one). She was in her early thirties or late twenties. It was actually just really bad makeup.

//Don't you hate it when the chaperons try and dance with the kids?

Mugato: I just think the SciFi episodes were a little edgier.

Ditto. I think Joel had the better non-movie moments, but that doesn't really matter to me as I'm really there for them to mock the movies.
