Megatron's supposed to sound batshiat crazy, not like he's mainlining quaaludes.

gayb 2007-03-24 09:38:02 PM
He's got a cool voice. He also lands a lot of big parts. Impressive for an older ugly guy.

His name is Hugo Weaving. Try to show a little respect, the man was in "Babe" for Christ's sake!

Very true. He reminds me of John Hiatt. Looks wise I mean.

Megatron: Good evening Optimus Prime
Optimus: My name is...Crap, I don't have any nicknames/codenames.

I can see it working. As long as he uses his normal voice, like he did in V.

Cool, Hugo's been in real good movies: V, LoTR, and Matrix....well 1 and 3. I feel a bit better about the Transformers movie now.

Hugo Weaving's a damn good actor....The movie will still be a stupid summer popcorn flick, but hey, at least the voice will be cool.

Bad idea...at least keep the original voices for some semblance of tribute to the old show...

My GOD, that site has some shiatty writing. AICN..ugh.

This is great news. Hugo Weaving's mission in life should be to bring Elrond/Agent Smith (note that he played them exactly the same) to as many roles as possible. In fact, he should just do everything in that voice, including picking up his dry cleaning and making love to his wife.

/"Do you hear that, Mrs. Weaving? That is the sound of... inevitability."

Second.

Luneward 2007-03-25 04:40:19 AM
Hugo Weaving is going to be in Transformers? Sweet. It takes serious acting skill to do good emotional portrayals if the audience can't see your actual face. See V for example.

SlackingToBabylon

Nice idea for tribute, but not so well in execution. You do realize most of these people are twenty years older than they used to be, right? Voices don't always hold up so well. (And I said 'most' since those that aren't twenty years older are dead)

Robosaurus 2007-03-25 07:15:33 AM
Remember:
Hugo was "Codename V".

That cancels out all bad Matrix JuJu.

gocheesego 2007-03-25 09:29:26 AM
Agent Smith, he ruined The Matrix for me. Every time I saw him I couldn't help but imagine he was wearing frilly womens underwear under that suit. Cock in a frock IN A MACHINE! Or.. PLAYING A MACHINE!

Fark has enough cliches, subby. It doesn't need any AICN cliches, thank you.

Good point, but Frank sounds exactly the same as always (he still does Freddy on whatever Scooby Doo incarnation they managed to crank out this week, not to mention Nibbler on Futurama, and pretty much any animal sounds in movies you can think of).

Jeez, sounds like I am his PR rep or something.

/I'm not, I just like old animation voices
//respect for the craft
///preferable to getting these "name actors" to do voices all the time as of late

RodimusPrime 2007-03-25 10:45:40 AM
Hmmm... frankly I wanted David Kaye (Beast Wars era Megatron - say what you wish about Beast Wars, his voice was awesome) and Frank Welker was second, but as far as new names go I think I can handle this.

Dughan 2007-03-25 11:19:06 AM
Why not go back and get old whats his name? Bilbo Baggins Spock person who played Galavtron... which would have made for a cooler over all movie and TOTALLY farked over the lame ass Fantastic Four movie which is gonna make us WAIT to see the big purple planet eater, Galacticus. The only down side would be no Orson Wells to play Unicron, though they could just cut in his old lines and work with it or something.

If they can make an actor sound like Mako for the TMNT movie, they can make someone sound like Orson Wells for the Transformers movie!

I want a giant world eating robot and I want it this summer damn it! And if they DON'T get the original Starscream for the role, it just wont seem anywhere near as cool. Oh, and I REALLY hope they don't portray Starscream like the CG shows... the noble, embittered warrior who only wants to be the best but can never seem to obtain it no matter how hard he tried or pushes. I LIKE him all backstabby and stupid!

/I'll shut up now.

RodimusPrime: frankly I wanted David Kaye (Beast Wars era Megatron - say what you wish about Beast Wars, his voice was awesome)

Dude, "Beast Wars" was awesome. "Beast Machines" was a steaming pile of crap. Instead of getting my wife an engagement ring, I got her the "Beast Wars" boxed sets. She loved it.

Dughan: And if they DON'T get the original Starscream for the role, it just wont seem anywhere near as cool.

That's awesome trollin' there.

SlackingToBabylon 2007-03-25 08:56:33 PM
The original Starscream (aka Cobra Commander, aka the original voice of Moe on the Simpsons (it's true!) heas been dead for like a decade, unfortunately.

AICN's reputation is partly founded on how terrible the site is at being coherent. Almost every regular reviewer on that site is utterly inept at engaging the reader or getting to the point.

Example: "I just saw this movie. It reminded me about something from my childhood. So let me completely drop any reference to the movie and instead give you a 4-paragraph expose on my life. It's a funny story, really!"

"Beast Wars" was awesome.

Awesome TV writing, mediocre toy line.

Hugo Weaving Isn't Listed as the voice for Megatron

I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but, Hugo Weaving is not doing the voice for Megatron in the 2007 Transformers directed by Michael Bay. According to IMDB, Frank Welker is doing the voice for Megatron.
