That's the ticket. Blame everything on Austria. What are they going to do, throw strudel?

zn0k 2007-03-11 06:56:46 PM
no. some local politician in germany is trying to get her name in the news by petitioning to file a motion.

LordPistachio 2007-03-11 07:46:57 PM
Hitler is like Germany's version of sex offenders. In the U.S. if some politician wants a pat on the back, he introduces a bill requiring sex offenders to wear socks on their heads and walk backwards through school zones. In Germany, the politician denounces Hitler in some way, and everybody thinks he's great for being against Nazis.

I realize this is a form of banishment, of making him an unperson, but isn't this also just a way for Germany to collectively exonerate themselves because "he wasn't really German"?
Responsibility for Hitler will always and forever lie with Germany the nation, just as any nation must accept responsibility for its collective actions--good and bad. Declaring him not a German citizen doesn't change the facts of history.
This is not a diss on Germany, btw.

Hitler is like Germany's version of sex offenders.

So German Sex offenders are, what, like Himmler or something?

No actually, that would be Goering. He was into little boys, you know.

Can we denounce Georg W. Bush back to his native land of Texas?
And...Hey Germany. You lost beacuse of two nukes dropped on Japan. You still have a chance to win the war...You have many American bases in your country with modern war equipment..Use it or lose it....

It's pretty sad that German people can't go a few months without having this crap dug up and thrown in their faces. The point, obviously, is to have it never be over and done with. Politicians can always use it as a political tool, a way to guilt people into shutting up or doing what you want. Hitler is way more valuable 'alive' than 'dead'.

Detroit_Bob 2007-03-11 09:55:00 PM
They really fetish on the whole Hitler/Nazi thing. Come on guys, its been 50-ish years; let it go.

You do realize that the nukes were dropped on Japan in August 1945, four months after Germany surrendered?

seithon1 2007-03-11 09:58:13 PM
I'm actually slightly disgusted by all this.
having been to Germany and spending a lot of time talking to a friend of mine there about it, it seems their more interested in just erasing the whole thing, while at the same time feeling massively guilty about the whole damn thing too.

Not guilty in a well.. guilty way, but more in an almost emoish way.

If you were 20 years old in 1945, you would be 82 today.

Not too many PFCs committed war crines.

If Hitler posthumously loses his German citizenship, maybe the Mormons could make up for it by baptizing him posthumously?

/is this thread eligible for a Godwin award?

Man, they must have a real bureaucratic backlog if they are 62 years behind...

This thread is self-Godwinned, but I think one more mention of Hitler ought to clinch it.

If these damn liberal would take the time to read government released documents they would know Hitler has been hiding in Australia since rumors of his existence forced his exile from Brasil.

Wow Germany...way to be attention grubbing whores....seriously whenever the world has been focused on other issues Germany pouts in it's cereal and goes....well....we're gonna do something with HITLER...HA, made you look! Get over yourselves Germany. You should be ashamed.

A law all full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

The guy has been dead 62 years (unless you beleive world weekley news) so its not like he knows the differance.

A thread about Hitler can't Godwin because the probability that Hitler will be mentioned is already at 1.

pretty much. Even if a 20 y/o PFC did something he was "just following orders" and his commanding officer is the one that would get punished.

I want to give a golf clap to subby for the headline. I think this was a case where you had ample chance to blow this headline but it was well-played.

Hitler won the elections. He was, like Bush, the people's choice until he lost the big one.

As I have said before, the Nazis truly were supermen. After the war when we went looking for war criminals, we found out that there were only a couple dozen of them. They conquered a large part of Europe, and with typical German efficiency, went through a thousand year reich in about a decade.

aaarkieboy 2007-03-11 10:33:17 PM
The phrase "Too little, too late" comes to mind. It's too small a gesture in light of the magnitude of history. Better to let history speak for itself, and let us make our own judgments.

That's almost as bad as Congress giving Generalissimo Washington a sixth star in 1976.

At least Germany acknowledges what they did during the wars was wrong. When will Japan do the same?

For those of you comparing Bush to Hitler:
1) Thanks for Godwinning the thread
2) You're an idiot
3) Bush's is actually from Connecticut, just like Hitler is originally from Austria

...When will Japan do the same?

Both the Japs and the Russians made the Nazis look like girlscouts during WW2 but you'd never know it by listening to pop culture. The world has always been focused on Hitler giving them the ability to slip under the radar indefinately.

They already did. He's been de-baptized since, well at least de-listed from the public list.
