I bet this "Bill Allin" character skips to work.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

knbber2 [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 05:38:12 PM
Fark you! I don't want to talk about it, leave me along bastards. The world is a shiatty place.

Because they lack what we call "Da social skillz."

Because we *know*...

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 06:02:49 PM
I was seriously unhappy for a time, but I got over it.

The trick, it there is one, lies in the phrase, "Illigitimati non Carborundum."

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Chariset [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 06:08:02 PM
It's the burden of being better than everyone else.. *sigh*

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 07:16:14 PM
Good thing it's merely a tendency, because I generally feel happy. I might be an outlier, though.

shanrick [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 07:17:50 PM
You'd be unhappy too if you were surrounded by stupid people.

Charming_Man 2007-03-11 07:22:05 PM
Cause we have to deal with your shiat

mrmagnet [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 07:32:45 PM
It's probably all those articles about how unhappy intelligent people are.

/hey, wait...

Bonehead 2007-03-11 07:43:18 PM
I kinda understand this. I don't know if I'd call myself highly intelligent, above average at best and definately a social-outcast geek. I've always felt I was a late bloomer. I don't know...just that some of the things I'm experiencing now, I feel I should have experienced about 5 or so years ago. I felt the same way in college. Well, better late then never I guess. I do feel better knowing that I'm more normal then I think...

//still crazy as a loon on occasion
///craigslist.org is nothing but scammers...

Meh. just catch up on your Machiavelli and Nietzsche. it puts the slobbering idiots of the world into perspective.

LordPistachio 2007-03-11 07:50:37 PM
This was probably written by some loser who makes up for his abject lack of any social skills by telling himself he's more intelligent than everyone around him. Eventually, that superiority complex gets too heavy to carry around.

Megain [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 07:57:52 PM

probably... he's written such classics as 'defeat can sometimes be the best outcome'. definitely a glass half full kind of guy

mkfreeberg 2007-03-11 07:58:30 PM
Hmmm. There does tend to be a correlation between the gift-o-gab folks and the whole "Ignorance Is Bliss" thing.

Kiribub [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 08:13:52 PM
Meh. You've got to work at it.

Why intelligent people tend to be unhappy

Not me I am a brilliant, and a ray of sunshine. Now I am off to hug some puppies, and then rework those quantum theories.

It's like how incompetent people feel like they're doing a good job, and people who are actually doing a good job feel insecure about how well they're doing their job.

Drivel. "Western society" includes France, which nurtures its intelligent people to a degree unknown in the rest of the EU, for example. Intelligent Frenchmen are unhappy for completely different reasons than those cited and they are much more stylish about it, too.

Rita: "You think Einstein walked around thinkin' everyone was a bunch of dumb shiats?"
Joe: "Yeah, hadn't thought of that."
Rita: "Now you know why he built that bomb."

/self awareness leads to existential crises
//intelligent people can't wrap their heads around the fact that life has no point

Without RTF'ng: Ignorance is Bliss.
So, this explains why I drink - to make me as stupid as the rest of you idiots.

" the vast majority of prison inmates are socially and emotionally underdeveloped or maldeveloped and a larger than average percentage of them are more intelligent than the norm."

yeah, right.

Kangol Jay 2007-03-11 09:02:22 PM
because we're frustrated by the idiots in this world. That picture of Bush alone makes me unhappy.

/Bush is a f*ckin' c*nt

I'll never forget when I was about 10, I told my mom I was depressed and she scoffed at me and said, "All smart people are depressed, get used to it." How right she was.

Hell, I'd be farking ecstatic too. I'd never leave home. Ok, fine ... I don't leave the home as it is, but it would be for completely different reasons this time.

I'd be unhappy if I had THE CLAP as well. Luckily for France, there's only 3 of them.

staplermofo: I bet this "Bill Allin" character skips to work.

I bet he is related somehow to Ric Romero. "Intelligent people tend to be unhappy"?

NeverDrunk23 2007-03-11 09:04:00 PM
Because people hate smart people. Nothing is more emotionally insulting than going after someone's intelligence.

duckpoopy 2007-03-11 09:04:13 PM
It is the fault of stupid people. They make lfe miserable for smart people, but don't seem to bother each other at all.

I'm going to combine all three by using a cyclotron to fire puppies into the sun.

FoxFaction 2007-03-11 09:05:56 PM
This article is pointing in completely the wrong direction. The reason they're unhappy I think has little to do with the fact that they are "outcast" or whatever. They get paid the most, they get looked up to generally for things, and they know they know more than everyone else. The real reason is something more along the lines of seeing the world for what it really is, or trying to give their lives meaning when there is infact none. It's along the same line of thinking that explains why cops have such high burnout rates, because they see all the wrong in the world and they cannot undestand why most people don't care. Highly intellectual people just see the world for what an empty meaningless thing it is while trying to give a grand purpose to their life, while your average joe schmo is just happy living on a moment-to-moment basis.

/ignorance is bliss, basically
//which is not what the article says

Damn, another study against me!

Abox 2007-03-11 09:07:12 PM
Intelligent people are unhappy because they know the election of George W. Bush to the presidency is a symptom of a much larger unresolvable human condition. VERY intelligent people are content in this knowledge.

/content

medius [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 09:07:24 PM
I believe it's because we realize how dumb we really are.

(And that's a scary thought, considering we're supposed to be the smart ones.)

bouts of brilliance 2007-03-11 09:08:09 PM
it could also be that to a thoughtful, creative mind, all the gossip and mindless blabbering is like squealing hogs at the trough.

mrwombat 2007-03-11 09:08:47 PM
I read up until he ended a sentence with a preposition. Pfft.

This is why I've spent my life killing brain cells.

desolationrow 2007-03-11 09:10:00 PM
This whole thing is flawed in the first place because people think that being 'book smart' is the same as being intelligent, and they're completely different. Some kid who gets kick-ass grades isn't necessarily intelligent, they may just be more effective in retaining information they take in. This isn't intelligence. Intelligence is the ability to comprehend and solve problems, not retain information that may or may not have any relevance to your life. An intelligent person will, if they consider things in their life, come to the conclusion that being happy is a choice, as is being unhappy. They'll look at their situation, figure out what's missing in their decision to be happy, and solve that problem. A person who joins a sports team because social interaction makes them happy is doing a very intelligent thing, and is living their lives in consideration of who they are, regardless of test scores and school work. A smart kid who is unhappy, but can't figure out why, is not exercising intelligence. People, regardless of intelligence or smarts, are happy or unhappy through a personal choice.
