(680 News) Dumbass Off-duty cop gives his radar gun to a friend so he can clock how fast the cop's new snowmobile really was. We don't know what the top speed was, but the deceleration was phenomenal   (680news.com) divider line 42

It doesn't mention the most important thing, did the radar gun survive???

Gairloch [TotalFark] 2007-03-11 05:29:38 PM
Sounds like the deceleration wasn't that great (unless he never even hit the brakes).

On a side complaint, I wish local news sites would keep in mind when they make a website that the whole dang world can access it so it would be nice if they would actually mention where they are (on the site, not in the news stories).

/would sticking a city/state/country or at least 2 out of the bunch on the bottom of the site really be that difficult

I'm split on this one. On one hand, the only thing damaged was a radar gun that anyone can buy now at sports stores, since saying the radar gun used was stolen from the Station would be pure speculation. On the other hand, a man who probably did a lot of good in his life by being a policeman was killed.

Easily. Snowmobiles often have 100hp or more, and weigh around 500 pounds. For some, 130mph is just a good start.

NakedApe 2007-03-11 05:52:17 PM
An eyewitness to the crash told CTV News racing snowmobiles is a common practice.

This needs to be in the article? In Canada? The writer must be paid by the word.

I'm split on this one. On one hand, I'm pissed that cops are taking government property to do stupid shiat with it on personal time.

Meh, it isnt like it's gasoline or some other expendable that is lost if used for private purposes. I dont really have a problem with this aspect.

I'm mesmerised by the name Lake Scugog though. If I ever get a cat I am naming it Scugog.

Best Story ever... Wish incidents like this would happen more often...

Cop died while attempting to speed in a snowmobile...
Friend dies with him attempting to clock him.
No tickets were issued.

//Great Trifecta.

untrustworthy: I'm split on this one. On one hand, I'm pissed that cops are taking government property to do stupid shiat with it on personal time. On the other hand, it helped to remove a dumbass from the police force.

Maybe I missed it - you are talking about the radar gun, right? I didn't read anything about the snowmobiles being govt. vehicles.

What a dumbarse, eh?

Why would anyone intentionally live where half the year is spent freezing your arse off looking for stupid human tricks to keep you occupied.

Of course, judging by their stupidity, if they all relocated to Lousiana the IQ in Lousiana would go down.

Mateyush 2007-03-12 12:23:24 AM
The radar gun itself may have been the only tangible public asset that was destroyed, but I'm guessing the taxpayers footed the bill to train the police officer in the first place. Even if that cost were amortized over the length of his career, the remaining balance from today until his retirement is now gone.

Wow, you sound like a typical Canadian right there. Tell me, have you ever been punched in the face for calling someone on and turned around to charge him because it wouldn't surprise me. Ladies and Gentlemen of Fark, this is a prime exhibit of your "Typical Canadian" or as I like to call him, you're average syrup sucking moose farker. He believes that there is NO world outside of Canada and that world outside Canada loves his country. None of which is true. (Canada's just the lesser of two evils folks) Now make no mistake about it, you can find a truely good Canadian, they are hard to find. They either are at a library, a theatre (stage) or anywhere else trying to broaden their mind. Alternatively the only other good Canadian you can find is six feet under.

theeagle: "Another un-biased canadian story about cops...No mention of alcohol..Pretty obvious ,since it was 9 at night.."

You mean pretty obvious since it was in Canada, seriously I watched these jerkholes line up outside a Beer Store in Toronto this morning a good hour before it opened. I threw stones. They were too hungover/drunk/high to care.

i have a 1000cc arctic cat with about 180 hp (aftermaket) and it would have trouble breaking 120 mph but it is setup for mountain riding, a flat land machine with less horse power would be able to break 130, especially if it was turboed or had NOS. It would not be a good idea to go that fast anywhere, especially on a lake (you might hit a heave).
