Yeah, and I sent a song I wrote to Mick Jagger, and he totally stole my song. Listen, BOTH songs have C and G chords!

I even sealed the song in an envelope and had it postmarked.

"It is more than ironic that two working class sponges are named Bob," Walker says in his complaint. "Both characters are unemployed. Both characters live in a house concept."

Obviously, Mr. McSues Alot hasn't watched an episode of the cartoon. SpongeBob is employed by Mr. Krab - but I'm sure working in a fast food joint is almost like being unemployed.....

House concept? There's a safe bet.

Dear Suey McSues Alot,

I have 3 kids.
I watch Spongebob every day.
I know Spongebob.
You sir, are no Spongebob.
Good day!

Bah, I came up with the Squarebob Spongepants concept, but I'm not bitter.

Well, not much.

Big deal...I designed a lottery ticket with 1 in 2 odds of winning the big prize, and submitted it to the state lottery commission.

I still pick the wrong numbers.

Back in 1976, when I was in kindergarten, I drew a square. And some time on the same day, I said the name Bob. At the time, I was unemployed. I'm suing this guy and Viacom for stealing my idea!

It's a little know fact that the first Iron Maiden mascot was not Eddie, but Spongebob. But they parted ways.

Both characters live in a house concept

Are I just can't brain today on account of the dumb, or is this as open-ended as it seems?

"house concept?" So... that'd be any enclosure that a person lives in, right?
Or just a first-draft of a script for the show House?

Mr. Litigant: your case has merit if and only if your character's name (bob spongee) is a proper response to the following question:
"Oh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea?"

and corresponds to the following statement:
"Absorbent and yellow and pourous is he!"

You're one for two or nought for two, depending on the color of your sponge-man.

As a parent of a three year old, I have to say this guy obviously has no idea what Spongebob is about.

He's a proud member of the working sea folk, unlike those damn shrimp welfare queens. Millions of kids dangling off their tails and various flagella and just living off the governments dime.

There's this little thing called copyright...Even I knew to copyright potentially marketable stuff when I was 20.

"Pardon me if I don't shed a tear...while you were up here doodling some pansyful sponge character MY PEOPLE WERE DYING ON NEW CAPRICA."

Aside from creating a sponge named Bob, I don't think he has a case.

Yay, sure. MAYBE.. this guy saw your sponge and came up with his idea... Mayyyybe.. But did you create all the other original characters in the show? Did you market it? Did you put any real work into the show. Ok.. So how much you want for your "idea". 1 Billion you say? Get outta town.. No really.. Get outta town...

Is that like a house boat?

Seriously, what kind of perversion of the English language is the statement "Both characters live in a house concept"? Concept is an abstract noun, you can't live in one.

In other words, "He's got a lot of money, and I want some."

Can he prove a connection between Nick/Steven Hillenberg/the animation studio that does SBSP? If not, case closed.

tokyogirl79 2007-03-11 01:35:49 PM
He and Al Gore can tag team a lawsuit. Troy Walker can claim he created Spongebob Squarepants, & Al Gore can follow up on his claim of creating the internet.

Nobody You Know 2007-03-11 01:37:51 PM
Nah, this kinda thing happens all the time. I mean, seven years ago I wrote on toilet paper practically verbatim the script for Howl's Moving Castle when I was high and taking a dump at my friend's place. I left it behind, and look what happened. There is no justice.

lelio 2007-03-11 01:38:07 PM
Didn't this guy also invent the "wacky neighbor" concept used by so many sitcoms today?

Note to guy: an "idea" is worthless. Execution is everything.

mike_d85 2007-03-11 01:51:00 PM
what is a house concept? I could understand if they lived in houses that were "based on the same concept," or even if the houses they lived in looked the same.

/e.g. both lived in pineapples
//or spongebob's house looked exactly the same
///notice the or

Probably_From_Texas 2007-03-11 01:58:51 PM
Aeonite: This is who invented Spongebob Squarepants.

Not exactly, even though I have the highest respect for John K. They do imitate the Ren and Stimpy style in the first season a lot. I think its because most of the artists working at nick at the time influenced it. John K practically built their cartoon studios from R&S, filling them with his pupils.

There is a similarity: both sides seem to think sponges are square. Feed 'em both to the sharks.

Name: DoodleBob
Occupation: Evil Clone (It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it)
About: SpongeBob and Patrick found a magic pencil that brought thier drawings to life. SpongeBob used his artistic talent to draw a copy of himself. DoodleBob went insane and stole the magic pencil. Eventually, SpongeBob trapped DoodleBob on a piece of paper, ending it's riegn of terror.

ftfa created "Bob Spongee, The Unemployed Sponge"

He must've known my best friend Bob from high school. Almost 30 years later, he's still an unemployed sponge.

Bones3D_mac 2007-03-11 02:12:41 PM
I find this guy's claims very unlikely. Stephen Hillenburg was an instructor of marine biology looooong before entering the animation business and working on shows like Rocko's Modern Life.

Here's a few interesting quotes from Hillenburg regarding Spongebob's eventual creation:

"At first I drew a few natural sponges -- amorphous shapes, blobs -- which was the correct thing to do biologically as a marine science teacher. Then I drew a square sponge and it looked so funny. I think as far as cartoon language goes he was easier to recognize. He seemed to fit the character type I was looking for." [Washington Post, Oct. 15, 2001]

"Working as a marine science educator, I had the chance to see how enamored kids are with undersea life, especially tide pool creatures. By combining this knowledge with my love for animation, I came up with SpongeBob SquarePants."

(Source - Internet Movie Database)

Considering Hillenburg's background, I'd say this other guy is just a con artist.

One is an unemployed family sponge living with humans in a normal house, the other is a frycook sponge living in a pinaple under the sea.

Yeah, they're the same.
