Yeah, right, that wonderful regime that has capital punishment for tax evasion, and has cowed Google and Yahoo into doing their censorship for them.

The Red Chinese govt are useless sack's o' shiat.

Yet, they get the Olympics and the US gov't is cozing up to them.

I's take the "Starbucks brand of evil" over the Red Chinese control-freaks anytime.

In Socialist China, taint loves you!

Also, funny how they don't think mobile execution busses are bad for their culture but starbucks is.

I mean, I know starbucks is, it's just that I wonder if they realize that they have mobile execution busses.

/In Socialist China, bus executes you!

You know, the Chinese have the same right to complain about Starbucks being in the Forbidden City as the French would about a Starbucks in Versailles, the English would about a Starbucks in Windsor Palace, or Americans would about a Starbucks in the White House.

It just isn't quite the place to sell overpriced coffee.

Starbucks coffee tastes like a fat greasy taint, Not that I tasted a fat greasy taint, other than my own.

HA! Taint China's National culture. You guys run sweat shops making knock off Nikes to supply dollar stores all over the South East of America.

Way to corral your high horse that got away from you somewhere around when that wall thing became obsolete.

I bought coffee at that Starbucks a couple of years ago. It did seem really out of place.

The Forbidden City is really interesting but is usually too jam-packed with people.

Perhaps China will feel more comfortable with Wal-Mart in the imperial palace. It's more in-line with their natural culture of human rights abuses.

/feeling snarky

Looks like the Chinese dont want dickhead emo douchebags serving up attitude with their overpriced coffee either.

Starbucks employees are the most stuck up people in the world. Dunkin Donuts rules.

You forgot how they handle donations for organ transplants. They execute prisoners so they can harvest their organs.

The Chinese government is a wonderful bunch of people. So say the Wal Mart and Starbucks hating socialists.

For every non-Starbucks coffee-based beverage you don't drink, I'm going to drink 4!

If you don't like that, you can find me doing some yoga to work off the sushi I just had

Nice to know the Chinese culture is so robust that it is threatened by a coffee shop. Typical Starbuck's-bashing hysterical-types.

I think I'll go have a latte in their honor.

"As long as it stays in the imperial palace, it poses a challenge to our traditional culture"

ie, it's an import, we only export things here.

Remember kids... abuse of human rights is BAD unless it sells you really cheap televisions.

"In response to the online boycott, the Palace Museum management had promised to seek a solution with Starbucks by the end of June, Xinhua said. The rent paid by Starbucks is used for maintenance of the palace, it added, citing museum managers."

So lemme get this right... The store's been there for 7 years and nobody had any sort of qualms prior to a TV show host's attempt to start an online campaign to evict them, and now this one sole parliament member is jumping on the bandwagon 2 months later.

However according to the quoted text above, the people in charge of the dang place don't really WANT them to leave as the rent being paid by Starbucks is used for restoration and maintenance of said palace. This would lead me to believe that there's a likelihood that the government isn't giving enough $$$ to the PM guys to keep the old palace maintained.

Nice to know the Chinese culture is so robust that it is threatened by a coffee shop.

Yeah, an inappropriately placed store could never threaten the cultural value of a location. Let's throw a McDonald's into the middle of the Smithsonian, put up a Starbucks at Arlington Cemetery, maybe an Old Navy at Gettysburg next to Little Round Top, and have another Starbucks side-by-side with the Lincoln Memorial.
