Is this the Oscar thread for the liters?

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener [TotalFark] 2007-02-25 07:41:51 PM
It should be interesting to see if we're going to have to use the phrase "Academy Award winning Marky Mark and the Golden-Globe nominated Funky Bunch" or "the Academy Award winning star of The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Eddie Murphy."

As it stands, you can already bank on using the phrase "the Academy Award winning star of Battlefield Earth, Forest Whitaker."

So, because they have an oscar, Three 6 Mafia are cursed?

So, because they have an oscar, Three 6 Mafia are cursed?

Actually I think the Academy is cursed for giving the Three 6 Mafia an Oscar.

The curse is broken if you use the statues for hood ornaments or sell them for crack.

I demand an Oscar's thread for liters :(

tarrant84 2007-02-25 08:12:37 PM
I have to hand it to Russell Crowe, he's one of the few actors who generally only accepted "good" gigs after he won an oscar.

# Gladiator (2000)
# A Beautiful Mind (2001) *good
# Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) *good
# Cinderella Man (2005) *good
# A Good Year (2006) *oops

Nottingham looks promising.

Captain Hollywood 2007-02-25 08:27:27 PM
I would have accepted to play Catwoman for 14 million dollars too!

Who among you would say "no"?

zvoidx 2007-02-25 08:27:38 PM
Yeh, but how about the statistics of the actors who won Ostards and ending up having good careers?

/Probably more than the "cursed ones"

zooklaw7 2007-02-25 08:36:05 PM
Halle Berry - Catwoman

/obvious

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2007-02-25 08:37:44 PM
"Stars dating back to Louise Rainer all the way up to Gwyneth Paltrow have all said that the Oscar was a curse on their career...

No, Gwyn, the idiot agent who told you it was a good move to cut a single with Huey Lewis is a curse to your career.

farkingnotworking 2007-02-25 08:39:04 PM
Well, as far as I'm concerned, this is the official oscars thread.

/Penelope Cruz looked like an ostrich

Same here.

Pans Labyrinth so far, FTW. It should have been nominated for BP.

I kinda liked the song 'n' dance about comedians getting short shrift from Hollywood. Was Will Ferrell wearing a rug?

Mugato [TotalFark] 2007-02-25 09:11:07 PM
kraut7: Pan's Labyrinth was a good movie but it should have been more about Ofelia and her fantasy world and less about a sadistic general and his fight with a group of rebels.

I think it's great as it is. It was just marketed poorly. They tried to make it look like a fantasy movie bu it's closer to Shindler's List than Narnia.

expobill 2007-02-25 09:11:47 PM
any one seen these movies?
1/2 of that Jack Niks. one

ellen is her suckie self

I_Love_Cheesecake 2007-02-25 09:13:55 PM
So far, Ellen is doing a lame-o job of hosting. Steve Martin was the best.

expobill 2007-02-25 09:13:55 PM

Cate Blanchett is as beautiful as always. Kate Winslet also looks mighty swell. That Japanese chick looks good, too. Nicole Kidman's face is full of Botox.

expobill 2007-02-25 09:24:25 PM
supporting actor already?

I_Love_Cheesecake 2007-02-25 09:24:34 PM
Alan Arkin seems like a nice guy, but Little Miss Sunshine was over-rated. So was Babel, for what it's worth. Good for him, though.

Disabled List 2007-02-25 09:24:58 PM
I hope Eddie Murphy got paid a LOT of money for Norbit.

thefloyd [TotalFark] 2007-02-25 09:26:06 PM
Did anyone else burst out in uncontrollable laughter when they did the close-up shot of Arkin's Oscar on the stage?

...or am I just weird?

strongbadd 2007-02-25 09:26:10 PM
Djimon should have won :(

expobill 2007-02-25 09:27:28 PM
"the departed" sucked!
