I knew Dio was little, but I didn't know the rest of the band was so short...

$100 says the words "rainbow" "evil" and "children" will be in them and he will probably rhyme 'fly' with 'sky' or possibly 'cry.'

They're not. You'll notice at the bottom of the pic that he's standing much closer to the camera. That's why his head looks so big compared to the rest of them.

Must be trick photophraphy then, 'cause he'd have to be standing ten feet in front of me for us to look the same height.

Anyway, after reading the article, I now have "Rainbow In The Dark" stuck in my head on an endless loop.

/wants me some heavy metal for dinner

They actually found a place with steps for this (older) shot:

Why do they bother showing their feet and ruining the illusion?

I saw Dio a few years ago and he killed. He still has the greatest pipes in metal and Sabbath is still flawless.
I'm 10 times more excited about this than seeing the Ozzy version of Sabbath.

Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are two of my all time favorite Sabbath records. This is gonna rock.

Opeth, Megadeth, Sabbath, and Death Angel all have records coming out this year. It'll be a great year for metal.

Bill Ward isn't involved with this project, so they recruited Vinny Appice.

That rocks. I'm need to dig up my old DIORULZ license plate and put back on.

I had to throw up the horns last night when he got a mention on "My Name Is Earl."

DreamBrother 2007-02-23 07:17:18 PM
Sounds good to me, as long as someone is riding the wings of a demon into the night. Preferably while hoisting a grail of fire.

I think this was the Dream Evil tour:

There should be a 'heaven' and 'hell' in there somewhere, hopefully.

How do you have a grand reunion with fill-in placeholder? Sabbath's great sound was gone before Ozzy was. This is a celebration of an already-shoulda-called-it-quits era for a band. I don't see Kiss doing the "Lick It Up 2007" tour or a Judas Priest/Ripper Owens reunion. Some of the Sabbath/Dio stuff was okay, but more like 80's metal relics along the lines of Testament, Queensryche, and the Scorpions. Early Sabbath had arguably the greatest sound in metal history, Dio-era stuff was unworthy of the name Black Sabbath.

Word. I like the Dio-era stuff, but it's not Sabbath. It just sounds like Dio or Rainbow.

Okay, that was just too funny.

Set list:

"I was Made for Lovin' You"
"Let's Put the X in Sex"
and
The entire (Music From) the Elder album

/so ashamed that I knew to put "music from" in parenthesis.

ggowins [TotalFark] 2007-02-23 08:26:59 PM
I thought that Tenacious D had retired him, and made sure he was very well taken care of. JB was to get the cape and scepter, and KG was to get a small cape.

Combustion 2007-02-23 08:30:12 PM
Why is Dio teaming up with Sabbath? They already have Ozzy, what's Dio gonna do?

-Yeah I know but Dio with 3 guys from Sabbath AIN'T SABBATH!

I'm pissed at VH. I was gonna do a Gary Cherone joke, but they all look like idiots right now.

Seconded. The only post Ozzy album I really liked was Heaven and Hell. Other than that, it really didn't do it for me. A Ozzy-less Sabbath isn't true Sabbath. Though Ozzy did screw up big time and did rightfully need to be kicked out with his crazy drug problems.

Um... wrong thread, Kill Me Please.

Try this one instead.

Folderol : Enjoy that cheesy organ riff....

Gawd, I know. Why, oh why did 80's metal have to try and make keyboards cool?

Ronnie James Dio lyric checklist:

[ ] angels
[ ] demons
[ ] rainbow
[ ] light/darkness
[ ] dancer
[ ] sun/moon/stars
[ ] dragon

The new songs ideally will hit either six or seven of these items, otherwise Dio isn't pulling his weight.

Uh, hi, KellyLockhart, I'm pretty sure that the comment about the VH joke just might have been a reference to my earlier post in this thread: " I don't see Kiss doing the 'Lick It Up 2007' tour or a Judas Priest/Ripper Owens reunion." Way to read.

Skeptimystic 2007-02-23 10:55:45 PM
No Bill Ward? WTF? Loves me somes '70's Sabbath!

KellyLockhart [TotalFark] 2007-02-23 10:56:37 PM
Uh, hi, Kill Me Please, you missed my joke... which was based on the fact that there was an "VH aborts reunion tour" thread here as well. I guess I was being too subtle for you, Mr. Literal. Way to not click links.

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeests and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!

HereComesTheScience 2007-02-24 05:00:03 AM
Dio-era Sabbath kicked ass. No one sang like him.

+1 for the Children of the Sea headline.

...ummm, when Dio was with Sabbath, Vinny was the drummer.

Not quite.

On Heaven and Hell, the Boobies Ozzy album with Dio, Bill Ward was the drummer. In fact, the album still sounded a lot like the Sabbath of old, just with a leprechaun doing vocals.

It just ain't Sabbath unless it's Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Tony Iommi.

Hey, the lineup may have changed, but it put money in their pockets. More than a lot of you can say.

Q: What about Ronnie James farkin Dio? You can't deny the ROCK.

you technically win. They're not even touring as Black Sabbath, but as "Heaven and Hell."

mrjah 2007-02-24 02:16:52 PM
I saw Dio about four years ago. It was like watching Wayne Newton try to hang with a harder crowd. Kinda sad.

The most hardcore fans in the audience appeared to be 35 year old tech company middle managers who didn't get out too much and were just a bit too into the show. They even wore their medium blue button-downs and khakis to the show.

Is this tour a tribute to the memory of ACE FREHLEY?

///R.I.P space ace!!

Iron Maiden 2007-02-24 05:41:09 PM
Vinnie joined half-way through the Heaven and Hell Tour when Bill Ward fell off the wagon. He only had a few days to learn the whole set list before they played in Hawaii. Best Sabbath line-up EVAR!

Nailed it. Iommi is by far the most important member of Sabbath, and it's his incredible riffs that made Sabbath great.

Green Bastard 2007-02-25 03:25:39 AM
Actually, it really is Geezers' band. The most under rated bassist in metal. Iommi does rock the house though.

drredhook 2007-02-25 04:55:40 PM
Yeah it is Geezer's band. Not saying Iommi isn't one of my favorite guitarists, but Geezer was the best.

fark Dio, fark Jack Black, fark calling them Sabbath if it's not Osbourne/Butler/Iommi/Ward.

fark calling them Sabbath

It just ain't Sabbath unless it's...

That's why it's called Heaven & Hell.

Or are you people Sharon astroturfing? Who cares anyway?

Who would want to see "Real Sabbath" fronted by a drooling, invalid moron?

I have no doubt the show I'm seeing with Dio will pwn any Ozzy fronted crap.

/but yea, it's not "Sabbath"

Jedekai 2007-02-27 12:44:00 PM
The statement about cry is right, the song is currently exclusive to Sirius Satellite Radio(Hard Attack, Ch. 27) And the song is called, "The Devil Cried" and the sad part is it is definitely better than the AWFUL "Psycho Man", which sounds like a Cannibal Corpse song, only with intelligible lyrics and less-skilled music.

/"A metal post and no Cradle of Phleghm joke, Jed?"
//"You mean like 'Who cares about the stairs, at least their singer didn't need a stepladder and stilts?'"
///"Ouch."
////2 for the home team.

iammess 2007-02-28 12:44:08 AM
DO NOT WANT!

I hate Dio with a passion. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. If I hear "Holy Diver" another time I will puke. Overrated is the best thing I can say about him.

Sabbath is only Sabbath with Ozzy, Geezer, Tony, and Bill back in the day. None of this crappy reunion stuff, none of this crap with Dio, back in the '80s or even now.
