Man are people ever easily offended these days. I wonder if more people are becoming whiny biatches or if the media is just covering more whiny biatchyness.

stuipidity abounds these days.

/submitted this with a funnier headline

FCC: We've received twenty complaints about this. And as you know 1 phone call is equivalent to 1 billion people.

/I know it has nothing to do with the FCC. Just a funny bit from FG.

I am a suicide attempt survivor, so Im getting a kick...

well, anyways, I am, and I really hate the AFSP and their constant need to seek out every mention of the word suicide in America and ridicule it into submission.

Were suicidal! We dont want help!

First off we all know there is no such thing as quality obsession at GM.. maybe he was a constant F'up and that is why he was canned.

Second ALL new commercials should be formatted like this.

We had a funny commercial to show you, but when you use comedy to glorify drinking, drugs, spousal/child abuse, beastality, fattening foods, smoking, head injuries, people of ANY race, Wisconsin, the socially inept, the mentally incapeable, greed, sex, or tacos, some one is bound to be offended. So here is a plain white background with our product. And please don't complain that we used a white background before checking the black backgrounds credentials. Thank you and don't sue us.

That commercial reminds me of the machine that replaces the dad's job (toothpaste lid applier) in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

General Motors. Even our robots are incompetent.

When I saw the commercial, at first I was reminded of all of GM's and Ford's problems of late and started thinking of plant closings and people losing their jobs. But I put it aside and kept watching, waiting for the robot to somehow find redemption have a happy ending. Then it "killed" itself. THEN it turned out it was all a dream, like on "Dallas" or "Saint Elsewhere". What a rip off. If "Lost" ends that way I'll be really pissed.

If there were a commercial featuring all of that together, I would totally buy whatever they were selling, even if I didn't need it.

/my favorite combo is beastiality/head injuries/tacos

Well great...if he didn't kill himself before he'll definately doing now. His falling star is heading right for the river and then the scrap heap.

/i hope they at least send someone to watch over him for a few days

One of "Lost"s producers read that post and said, "Well, that's better than anything we've got so far."

I don't see how pulling the commercial will help now. It's done, and the employees that had to take a pay cut or lose their job to early retirement are already pissed enough that they won't go back to GM ever. And since American automakers like GM are mostly bought because they're discounting via the job, they just farked themselves royally. Seriously, who would buy an American shiat car if you didn't have to pay full price?

"Lay off". Good choice of words.

That robot was cute. I liked that commercial :|

"I think this whole matter has brought a new level of sensitivity and awareness," Gebbia said. "GM is being very responsive."

They're far more responsible to PR than to making better cars.

Usually all this complaining about commercials being offensive comes off as simple whining. This commercial is regionally offensive, I think. I live in Norfolk, where they are planning on closing the Ford plant and laying off thousands of workers. In our regional market, that commercial was incredibly uncalled for and callous.

People being offended or not, Suicide is a serious issue. Look up the stats.

capngroovy 2007-02-11 02:58:38 PM
Offended? No. Disappointed that an ad that leaned that heavy on pathos had such a cop-out for redemption? Yes. Budweiser did a far better job with the downward spiral plot with the Dalmation ad.

Sweaty Jerry 2007-02-11 09:01:54 PM
You know, they haven't laid anyone off (except for the farking robot): they bought them out. They dangled incentives to retire in front of the workers and they took them.
