I know of several. Can I have 1200 per each unit?

"Look how super awesome it is that consumers can't buy our product even if they want to! That fits right in with our brilliant business strategy."

Dude, go to the Target across from Fayette Mall in Lexington. Or the Best Buy just up the street. Then meet me at Moe's at Fayette Mall to give me my $1200. While you're there, you can get yourself a burrito and give me $1197 if you want.

I really don't get it - is Sony delusional or are their execs so surrounded by sycophantic yes-men that they have no real idea how badly their product is being received?

At first, I read that as 5 months.

Then I re-read it. This guy's heading for a Jack Thompson-esque failure. Better call Gabe and Tycho. Looks like a lucky charity is going to get another donation.

What's the regular price for a PS3? How much are they on the store shelves?

Outtaphase [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 06:28:26 PM
Sure. I could find a dozen if I cruise up the local shopping strip. Do I have to blow the dust off of them first?

One of our managers won a PS3 in a poker game last month, and he emailed everyone here that it was for sale, slightly cheaper than list.

He still has it.

Seconded. Now if only Sony could remove the foot from their mouths, they'd be taking a tiny step in the right direction.

I just walked out of our local Walmart not 20 minutes ago, and there was 7 sitting on the shelf. My Wife and I were laughing about how they made such a big deal about them, and there they sit.

I know the Wii is super-awesome and everything, but what is it about the Sony that sux so hard ? Is it just considered a bad value for the asking price, or does it provide a comparatively lousy gaming experience ? Both ?

/not a gamer

When I first read the headline, I thought he was probably right.

Of course, I misread "minutes" as "months," so that might have something to do with it.

Reactron: I know the Wii is super-awesome and everything, but what is it about the Sony that sux so hard ? Is it just considered a bad value for the asking price, or does it provide a comparatively lousy gaming experience ? Both ?

It has to do with Sony as a company, their terrible marketing strategies, and their rootkits.

But I thought they made very good rootkits. Don't their rootkits work as not advertised ?

The clincher is the words `the shelf' as opposed to the bargain bin.

GvmtSpook [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 06:55:37 PM
I was at target the other day and they had three. I asked if they just came in, and the lady told me they can't get rid of them. The Wii however they couldn't keep in stock and people called every day to see if they are available.

I can get any retail buyer on the phone with you and get them to verify that there's not a single retail location in America where there's a PlayStation 3 on the shelf for sale.

And I can get on the phone with my local Best Buy, and two different local Targets and have them tell you that they have had the same 10-15 on the shelves for the past week at /least/.

Pony up big boy, I'm taking you to the bank on this.

best buy, toysrus, walmart, and target...

i've been to all four stores in the last two weeks.... all of them, ALL OF THEM had 10+ ps3's just sitting there waiting to go to a good home and break....

i cant wait for a ps3, but i am going to be patient for at least a year before i buy one. remember xbox 360's caught on fire early on....lol okay maybe not all of them, but some had potential

MaxxLarge [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 08:52:05 PM
Twelve hundred? That's quite a tall order.
The Wii supplies STILL are much shorter.
If Sony's a lock
To buy back overstock,
That's not gonna help their first quarter.

Gosling [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 09:32:16 PM
Oh, Sony.

ranak 2007-02-09 09:36:01 PM
This article is almost 7 hours old.

How long do you think it'll be before:
1) someone records this
2) asks the CEO for their money
3) gets denied
4) the inevitable lawsuit flies

Seeings how this isn't the original article, it's probably at least to Stage 2 by now. I'd sure want to profit off the back of this Sony jackhole.

Mentat [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 09:42:34 PM
I went to a local Target last week to grab a game and an employee told me they had three PS3 sitting in the back. No Wii's though.

What's the plural of Wii anyway? Wiis? Wiii?

It's because people refuse to remember the semi-legal things Nintendo did back in the 80's to rise to the top of a dead industry. They refuse to remember that Nintendo treated (and in some respects, continues to) their entire consumer base like 6-year olds, incapable of mentally processing the sight of digitized blood or any religious iconography. They refuse to remember that Nintendo botched the hell out of the N64.

Then again, most of these people who have forgotten such things can be easily distracted by jingling your car keys nearby them.

frankmanhog 2007-02-09 09:57:01 PM
No, we remember them. Nintendo made very bad choices and got knocked down. Now Sony is on top, and deserves to be knocked down a peg or two for all the shiat they're trying to pull.

IcarusWept 2007-02-09 10:00:00 PM
360 has the hardcore audience.
Wii has the casual audience.
Sony has... people who have personal grudges against MS and/or Nintendo, yet don't care about rootkits.

I really can't see any compelling reason to pick up a PS3... no must-have launch titles, no neat extra capabilities (streaming video from my PC to my big screen is teh roxxor), and the company really has no positive karma saved up to make me overlook the price.

elvindeath 2007-02-09 10:09:20 PM
Hey dude - meet me at my local Costco. There's three pallets of them on the floor, and they've been there for weeks. After that we can stop by my local Best Buy, whre there's a whole two shelves of them ... and I didn't notice any stock boy constantly refilling them over the last two months. Still have never seen a Wii on a shelf ANYWHERE.

So good luck with that $1200 thinggy. When you want to cut me the check, you can find me on Xbox Live playing Raindbow Six Vegas (Team Sharpshooter at the Calypso Casino, baby)

Nemo's Brother 2007-02-09 10:10:24 PM
I think people remember the rootkits (which should send a few Sony people in jail), the fake movie reviews, the payola scandals, the flogging, vanalism (to sell PSPs), the fact that everyone and their mother had to buy multiple PS2s and PS1s.

For a period of time, the name Sony meant quality and innovation. That day has long passed. They need to be humbled a little so that they can rebuild into a respectable company again.

Midways Defender 2007-02-09 10:14:02 PM
Please make check payable to: ME :)

Every one of those ripoff chain stores of the Gamestop pyramid scheme retail outlet have been trying desperately to offload them all around my city since the second week of January. You can go anywhere in Louisville, KY and find that 60GB monstroscity and probably the smaller one too. There just isn't much demand for the underpriced(to sony only) system.

Deadite 2007-02-09 10:18:57 PM
I can't wait for Manhunt 2 to come out for the Wii, Halo 3 for the 360, and maybe I'll open up the PS3 I got as a gift in a year or so when RE5 comes out but it may switch consoles by then.

BTW Manhunt 2 only because it isn't the obvious choices like Mario, SSBB, or Metroid. Also its to kill people without having to do a series of button presses but instead to use your hands.

The Real Damien 2007-02-09 10:21:19 PM
I live in a town of about 17,000 people (small, hick) Walmart had 10 PS3's and gamestop had a bunch Not a single Wii to be had anywhere

My nearest city is Indianapolis where every Big Box store in the city has PS3's again no Wii.. .

slipperyrockdawg 2007-02-09 10:29:58 PM
I'm hardly a Sony apologist, but part of the PS3 vs Wii debate seems to be basic economics.
The PS3 is designed for high end gaming and is priced to match that.
The Wii is designed for the casual gamer and is priced to match.
So is it really all that shocking that PS3s aren't selling as fast as Wiis? This is akin to arguing why the economy cars outsell Aston Martins (not that I'm comparing PS3's to Aston Martins in terms of quality).
/owns an Xbox 360
//getting ready to sell it
///kayaking FTW

srhp29 2007-02-09 10:47:05 PM
He is offering to pay you 1200 for the PS3...so you have to buy it first...your profit would be +600. Still not bad.

pvd021 2007-02-09 10:51:35 PM
Saw a pile at the local bestbuy... Couldn't find a Wii anywhere though.

CravenMorehead 2007-02-09 11:31:26 PM
From the article:

"After EGM let Tretton know they had indeed phoned 18 stores and found half of them had PS3s in stock, some stores with as many as 20 consoles, Jack held firm "if only nine of the 18 stores you contacted had supplies, that seems to be a clear indication that sales continue to be outstanding." So there you have it, Jack's not backing down. We're guessing our check is already in the mail."

Yup, that is exactly what he means my "not on the shelf for more than 5 minutes". More Sony exec asshattery.

NYMoogle 2007-02-09 11:48:44 PM
The money fights the market that made it.
Sony is big enough to deny their problems, AND, instead of a market reamady (lowering price), they eat losses and sell lies. Gimme my dough, big man
FU SONY

omgwtfbbq! 2007-02-09 11:57:04 PM
Yeah, every gaming store in town has a bunch off ps3's in stock here. You can't find any wii's, or even wii accessories most of the time, to the point where the only in-stock wii things are the stupid carrying cases.

/totally wishes he could get the $1200 for a ps3 sitting on the shelf
//could make lots of money in a few hours that way

findthefish [TotalFark] 2007-02-09 11:57:30 PM
I have never seen a Wii in real experience. Nor do I know anyone who actually has one. I do not believe the Wii actually exists at this point....

/The Circuit City I visited today has a sign posted outside that the Wii was "temporarily" out of stock. They had a stack of 10 ps3s on the floor gathering dust....

//No Wii accessories either...just the games
