"Not the Third Reich though," Fleischmann said of the army men. "We don't do the Third Reich."

Oh come on now, they couldn't load a bunch of toothpick thin Jews in a train car?
/window seat please, thank you

Jebus. They must have never been to a model train show in Houston.

We have some really bizarre train layouts here. I love it ;)

mryoop789 pictures were linked in an earlier posting of the story. The round-up of the women at the brothel was to be seen.

Back in the 1950's Walthers had an executive coach with decorated interior, complete with naked secretary in the shower.

Wish I had that on my trainset.

I saw a 'villan' have a 'damsel' tied up on tracks, a drug dealer, an hookers with pimp in one layout. Another one had two movie theaters across the street from each other. The one showing 'Star Wars Phantom menace had two people in line, the other had 'Casablanca' with a long line of properly scaled people waiting to buy tickets.

So much for "what happens in the caboose stays in the caboose".

Lionel has had nuclear waste since the late 1950's, & their 2003 "Mr. Spiff and Puddles, the Peeing Dog" accessory, surely broke barriers

I had fun talking with Nicholas Roeg about the "World's Greatest Hobby's "reaction to "Track 29"

I remember the winter my dad and I built a huge set up for his trains. I wasn't much for running the trains, but I enjoyed making the miniature landscape and laying track. I even conned my dad into letting spray graffiti on the underpasses. He wasn't too happy with the "Fark u," "Your momma...," "4 a good time call 867-5309," and other rudenesses (this was before txt speling). But hey I told him, that's reality, you always told me to not lie. Sometimes its hard for a grown man to argue with a 10 year olds logic.

/bonus if you can guess what my real name is without clicking on my profile

Oh man, you've got to get some of those displays just to put them in a case and show them off to people.

Trains look stupid without the caboose now. I know that on modern trains they aren't really necessary, but cabooses are the coolest part of any train. Just turn them into a break room for the dudes who work on the train if nothing else.

jake_lex,
I like your pro-featherbedding post("firemen" originally were the guys who shoveled coal into the steam loco's firebox, so what do they do on a diesel?) but in case you haven't noticed unions ain't been doin' too good lately

That said, railroad employee's have the shiattiest jobs going in terms of terrible injuries death, cancer etc. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers have a deal that pre-dates workman's comp so what they do, if you twist yer ankle in the railyard the railroad will cut a check for $2,500

The other funny thing is there was some controversy a few years back when Lionel released a 1940's era (Alco? Fairbanks Morse?) road switcher a few years back & had the painted figure of a black guy sitting in the engineer's seat. The hobbyists were outraged saying it wasn't authentic because due to period racism no railway would've had a black engineer-especially the Southern ones, in such a new, expensive diesel
