The way I've always heard it, Chevy was always great from a script but can't improvise for jack, which is probably why his horrid talk show tanked. When all the funny scripts dried up so did his career. He was passable in Vegas Vacation though. He and Randy Quaid have a good chemistry.

The problem with that theory is that it disounts his SNL writing, as he was the first headwriter on the show while the show was brilliant.

My theory is that he ceased being funny when he became the thing that he once lampooned.

I also think Will Ferrel isn't funny. Nor Dane Cook.

So it'll have one good scene where a drunk spy makes out with his hottie sister, and the rest will be Mike Meyers acting out like a hyper active 3rd grader on fun dip.

Two of my favorite movies with Chase were early ones for him - "Foul Play" and "Seems Like Old Times". He and Goldie Hawn seemed to work well together ... don't know why they weren't paired up more often.
