But why? Why the greenlight... can somebody say something funny here? I don't care about belly dancing or Maine, neither should you!

I dream of fishing in Maine. Now there will be a belly dancer on my boat with me.

Well... I am apalled! I do not appreciate your tone, any of you! Haven't you heard the news? My opinion is fact, if your opinion differs in any way, you are wrong.

Whoa! There goes that sarcasm again... look out!

Seriously though, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings by insulting some dance that you think you like because you saw shakira do something similar. The fact that America has bastardized this dance into a sexual attraction doesn't mean anything to any of you because it is a cool new thing. Next time you are in the Middle East and witness real "belly dancing"; women forced to dance to please men, then fed scraps from what the men discard from their meal only after cooking and cleaning everything, tell me how attractive it is. Yes, I have seen it firsthand, and I know I will get some crazy backlash for this, but check it. The initial post was a joke, plain and simple... sorry to make all of you butthurt.

Oh yeah, I am not saying all Arab or Middle Eastern countries treat women worse than workhorses, only the 3 that I have been to.

LaChanz Next time there is an article on "Fundamentals of Punk Rock" being offered at the local community college, express your feelings... I'll be right there with you.

LaChanz [TotalFark] 2007-02-04 06:44:23 AM
chocolate shotgun: Yes, I have seen it firsthand

Did you leave them some of your steak or just the potatoes?

LaChanz [TotalFark] 2007-02-04 06:45:47 AM
BTW- I like punk just fine. Just trying to make the point that you did get.

chocolate shotgun 2007-02-04 06:59:26 AM
No, I only left some hubbus and timin, I ate all the meat. That is what I do... I eat meat (you could easily head the juvenile route and make a penis reference OR use the meat eater conotation and call me a Neanderthal). It took me a second a second to decipher your words...
Just trying to make the point that you did get.
But I understand now, you think you made your point. I didn't see that you had a point to make in the first place. If you did make your point, I still don't see it. Oh well. Take it easy LaChanz... oh yeah, you wouldn't happen to be into French cuisine would you? Your handle has the same moniker as a pretty good restaurant.

chocolate shotgun 2007-02-04 07:01:14 AM
Nevermind the restaurant is Le Cantz, I believe... oh well.

LadyAcidophillus [TotalFark] 2007-02-04 07:02:36 AM

if you could tell , my response was tongue-in-cheek too

btw i live in the Middle East. i'll give you that much that in most places, its not as glamourous as Hollywood portrays - but its still a beautiful thing to see. while not a bastardized result of sexual attraction - its mighty damn sensual if done well.

/also: you make my butt hurt so goooood

at80eighty I try =) you know what is also awesome? You used "tongue-in-cheek" AND "butt hurt so goooood" in the same post... not bad. Where in the middle east do you live? My experience is that the rich countries and the poor countries do the most womenizing... the middle class (Jordan, Oman, Etc.) are the decent ones, but like I said before, I have not been everywhere.

and for you Beavis_Christ go cry into your hawthorne hights cd's you poser. If anything anywhere on the internet influences your outlook on a genre of music maybe you should look to MTV for a new style.

Is it the kind of belly dancing where guys draw eyeballs around their moobs and a mouth around their navels, wear enormous tophats that come down over their shoulders, then walk in a parade pretending to make their belly buttons whistle the Colonel Bogie March (aka The theme from The Bridge Over The River Kwai)?

Because I'm up for that class.

yeah - im from a secretive clan of people on TFD dedicated to bringing a punderstorm upon Fark :-p

Where in the middle east do you live? My experience is that the rich countries and the poor countries do the most womenizing...

Correct on that. im in Dubai, UAE - M.E. prostitution central

the middle class (Jordan, Oman, Etc.) are the decent ones, but like I said before, I have not been everywhere.

Oman is a freaking exception to the M.E. - a truly pacifist state. not to mention the areas around Salalah are simply too green to be true.

/Jordanian women are simply awesome

SmokinGun 2007-02-04 07:26:45 AM

Hubbus and Timin = Flatbread and Rice. If you are ever in the Syria/Iraq/Iran/Kuwait area try it. It is as simple as it gets, but ooohhh so good.

Hubbus = Flatbread

OH!

dude - afaik (and ive been here for about 21 yrs) - its KHubbus. granted the K is very faint - but im pretty sure thats how its pronounced

chocolate shotgun 2007-02-04 07:36:30 AM
at80eighty yeah, UAE is a pretty interesting place... almost like too wealthy for its own good! I've never been, but I know several people who have and said they had a great time. Good places to eat over there I hear.

and yes, almost everyone in Jordan is awesome... almost.

chocolate shotgun: Hubbus and Timin = Flatbread and Rice. If you are ever in the Syria/Iraq/Iran/Kuwait area try it.

I was born in Iran, and am pretty well versed in Persian cuisine. I'm pretty sure we don't have that.

But you can get flatbread and rice pretty much anywhere. So I don't see it as a longshot. I just never heard of it.

bobbooty 2007-02-04 07:43:23 AM
BFD. USM had a belly dancing class in the theatre department back in 1989.

yes. KHubbUs if you were to type out with no special charecters. I think, but yeah, you know what I am talking about... good stuff, and available by the truckload.

chocolate shotgun: yes. KHubbUs if you were to type out with no special charecters.

Still not ringing a bell.

Usually rice and bread is served desperately in Persian food. (I don't know about arabic)

I've heard of people eating them together, but it's usually poor people who can't afford meat or something.

Persepolis 2007-02-04 07:47:16 AM
*separately, not deperately

chocolate shotgun 2007-02-04 07:47:33 AM
persepolis I am not sure of the Iranian name, but I know there is pretty much an identical flatbread in Iran. We had an Iranian interperater who told me what it was one time, but I don't remember. Simoon maybe?

Oh yeah. Lavash. (Good with peanut butter) But I've never heard of people eating rice with bread.

Two grains? Thats unpossible!

They used to have belly dancing classes at the local community college, and my wife and her two girlfriends signed up for it. Watching those three practice for their dance recitals was like having the titty bar brought into my own living room. Very sexy.

Big Red 2007-02-04 08:44:01 AM
I'm still trying to absorb that this is a Fark thread about belly dancing, and it's full of hatin'. Wow...that's like Lassie biting Timmy right on the keester.

I'm almost afraid to admit I've been a belly dancer for many years, performing and teaching. Who'd a thunk it?

vudukungfu 2007-02-04 08:55:46 AM
varmitydog you haven;t seen the women of Maine, have you? I love belly dancing. I hate to see it butchered by the obese.

There is very little that is more entertaining to watch than a good belly dancer. Not just the sheer unadulterated sensuality of it, but it is just so neat to watch someone who can move their body like that.

/had an ex who was a belly dancer
//that whole stomach flutter thing... yeah, I miss her

So move one state down to Texas. You cannot swing a stick without hitting a belly dance instructor around here. Hell, my wife teaches it out of the living room and has no trouble finding students.

/Doesn't belly dance
//Yay ballet!
