The headline is misleading. It should have mentioned the cougar's a female...protecting her cub. Ordinarily a cougar wouldn't have stayed around long enough to start a fight with a bear. That said, nice video.

An aging woman and a hairy gay guy...?

The bear barely fought back, if he was more hungry, dead cougar imho.

That bear seemed pretty lazy.
I've seen video where they really go batshiat crazy lashing out.

You see, the real question is, given a water level deep enough for a shark to move freely, and shallow enough for a bear to retain his nimble nature, who would win in a battle between a bear and a shark?

Potent_Potable 2007-01-28 03:32:49 PM
A Chicago Bear would beat that cougar.

In this video that cougar ain't no pussy...

wtf was that bear just going in for a head butt? Normally the bear would swipe with the broad side of their claw, enough to knock you down flat, and follow up with a terrific chomp.

Shostie

Bears and sharks always travel together. Just look at them, walking through the wooded forest, paw in fin. It's on account of their teeth that makes them "Nature's Best Friends"

A shark would devestate a bear, now if only we could combine the two.

i work at a park here on the weekends and they've told me several times, when you run into a cougar to just open your coat and make yourself appear large. now opening my coat does not make me larger than a bear..so i guess i'm farked...

DrGunsforHands 2007-01-28 07:29:27 PM
If you're chased by a grizzly, run downhill. Front legs are shorter than back and they can't run downhill very fast. Cougars are nasty though. They like to eat your face.

That's smart... Grizzly Bears aren't fast or really even that dangerous if hunting you.

Running downhill like a madman is the obvious choice -- that way when they leap at you they will gore you through the neck rather than the gut and your death may less painful.

You can also try screaming, or throwing small rocks.

The real strategy is to not get chased to begin with -- humans aren't natural parts of these beasts diets, after all.

What if he's tasted Man-Flesh... And likes it.

Bacontastesgood 2007-01-28 09:11:38 PM
I think the technical term for liking the taste of man-flesh is 'teh ghey'.

Something's fishy in that video. Multiple camera angles. The tight shot of the cougar shows a river rushing behind him. The wide shots show them fighting on the side of a mountain.

Maybe circus animals 'fighting' in front of a green screen?

In summary, FAKE!!

/probably real

Saw an old Disney show on Alaska many years ago.
Just footage of animals in the wild.

They showed a grizzly chasing down a full grown male Elk, with a nice set of antlers, the Elk finally got tired.
Yea the grizzly wore him out in a run.
It then turned in a stream to face the Griz, got in one head thrust with that marvelous rack and was promptly one shot in the head with a paw.
Didn't just knock it out, it killed it in one shot.

Although a big fan of the felines, this Bear just wasn't that motivated.

/same show saw a wolverine fall out of the top of a 60 ft tree.
//bounced one or twice and wandered off apparently ok.
//my vote for lb for lb bad ass.

I think it's cause the cougar was protecting her cub...if the bear was protecting a cub it would go the other way....that's why I always take a baby with me in dangerous places-then people know not to mess with me.

Karma CrusadeGrizzly Bears aren't fast or really even that dangerous if hunting you.

Grizzly bear top speed is 35 mph. Can't tell you how their stamina is to sustain that, but if one comes out from behind the bush, you might wanna throw some injured bunny rabbits at it first.

crud, sry didn't close the bold tag.

One Thirty-two and Bush

Of course it's fake. It was all CGI, the video quality was just so bad that it made it look real. It was from a TV show where they take two animals and using experts and such they determine which would win in a fight.

prjindigo 2007-01-29 11:25:17 AM
the bear approached with a passive territorial stance to run the cougar off, the cougar stood ground and then the bear realized it was defending it's young and began backing away.

animals THINK people... I have a kitten that's probably smarter than half of you.

That was what I was thinking too.

/That whole thing about running downhill if chased by a bear is not true.
