Some of these just aren't as impressive as others. You have the Great Wall and the Pyramids, and then stuff like Petra.

I mean, the Pyramids mean never having to build another Granary. Who doesn't want quicker population growth?

Rigged contest, I don't see Scarlett Johannson. OK, I'll enable voting so we can write her in.

Subby should have linked to this part of the site rather than to the Chitzen Itza page.

Why did they include the Sydney Opera House? Interesting building, but it sure hasn't stood the test of time, which should be a criteria.

Are you going to squabble over Machu Picchu?

I'm just saying that the subby should have linked to the main page that showed all the locations since it took me a while to find it from the page that he had linked to.

And why didn't he link to the front page...I wonder...

(thirty-seventh time I've seen this link in the queue)

meshman 2007-01-21 01:23:01 PM
These are all man-made wonders.

DeadZone 2007-01-21 01:27:44 PM
There's not a single USA made one either? No Hoover Dam, no Moon landing...

/Statue of Liberty was made by the French.

Y'know, even though you may not be able to vote for your impressive peaks, feel free to show them off in this thread.

/Uh...no hardwood though.

Wheres the farking Panama Canal ?

Oh, and weiner dog/UNC_Samurai... Da Vinci's Workshop is better.

brakbudy 2007-01-21 02:37:48 PM
shiat based on recent architecture shouldnt count. Stuff that won't stand centuries of time... Sydney Opera House is cool and all, but dude, do you see it being in a completely unrestored state or not in ruins in 200 or 300 years? No way. I bet it will either be unrecognizable due to restoration or torn down and something else built over it in a few centuries. Could be wrong, but who's gonna prove me wrong :-P

Gosling [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 03:06:21 PM
I probably have one or two switched from the last time we had this thread, but...

Colosseum
Great Wall
Machu Picchu
Pyramids
Taj Mahal
Angkor Wat
Easter Island

bingethinker [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 03:11:38 PM
Mmm... chicken itza!

Oh, hey, there was a list of 77 nominees (the top 77 from an open-casting-call vote) that got cut to the 21 still alive.

Some names that didn't make the cut from that 77:
*Potala Palace, Tibet
*Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy
*Versailles, France
*Terra Cotta Warriors, China
*Forbidden City, China
*Tower of London, United Kingdom
*Big Ben, United Kingdom
*Petronas Towers, Malaysia
*Houses of Parliament, United Kingdom
*Abu Simbel, Egypt
*Nazca Lines, Peru
*Imperial Palace, Japan
*Pyramids of Teotihuacan, Mexico
*Guggenheim, Spain
*Burj Al-Arab, United Arab Emirates
*Sistine Chapel, Italy
*CN Tower, Canada
*Mont St. Michel, France
*Panathinaiko Stadium, Greece
*Panama Canal, Panama

The American nominees that lost to the Statue of Liberty:
*Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
*Empire State Building, New York
*Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

Of those, take my seven, knock out Angkor Wat, plop in the Nazca Lines.

Eat More Possum:

The Hanging Gardens of Baylon and The Collossus of Rhodes are no longer there, but they're in the original seven.

deltabourne 2007-01-21 04:49:16 PM
I'd choose...

Acropolis
Great Wall
Taj Mahal
Hagia Sophia
Stonehenge
Pyramids
Colosseum

What_Would_Jimi_Do 2007-01-21 05:20:06 PM
stonehenge
easter island statues
pyramids of egypt
machu picchu
great wall
angkor
petra/timbuktu

imho the pantheon should be listed.

Trielli [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 05:40:41 PM
I'd vote for the Statue of Liberty, Da Vinci's Workshop, and Darwin's Voyage and Adam Smith's Trading Company.

FireGuts 2007-01-21 05:52:11 PM
Probably mentioned in the other threads for this link, but I fail to understand why the Pyramids should be on this list considering they're already on the original list. Why should they get to be on two lists of the wonders of the world?

Shostie [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 07:27:36 PM
Why isn't my penis on that list?

StinkyDiver 2007-01-21 08:13:20 PM
some of these things really don't compare to the others. Statue of liberty and eiffel tower are pretty cool, but there's no way they could be a wonder of the world over something like the pyramids that have been there thousands of years.

I voted:

Great Wall
Pyramids of Giza
Angkor
Easter Island
Acropolis
Colosseum
Chichen Itza

I felt a little bad not voting stonehenge, but compared to these others it isn't that amazing. well, it's still pretty awesome i suppose.

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 10:48:31 PM
tdpatriots12,

They neutered the Workshop in Civ 3. Now it only gives you a 50% discount on upgrades. The pyramids are still essential to an early growth boom.

Mateorocks 2007-01-21 11:09:38 PM
Full voting list from the site:

The Acropolis
Alhambra
Angkor
Chichen Itzá
Christ Redeemer
The Colosseum
Easter Island
Eiffel Tower
Great Wall of China
Hagia Sophia
Kiyomizu Temple
Kremlin
Machu Picchu
Neuschwanstein Castle
Petra
Pyramids of Giza
Statue of Liberty
Stonehenge
Sydney Opera House
Taj Mahal
Timbuktu

...Timbuktu gets my vote just cuz of Bugs Bunny. Yeah, I'm an American.

Deece 2007-01-22 12:35:27 AM
I can still vote for Stephen Colbert's much sought after hardwood, right?

/was gonna say Mick Foley, but Colbert's teh new hotness

MarkMartinFan 2007-01-22 12:51:58 AM
Been to all listed except one. Statue of Liberty has some "heart tug" but can't vote for her - she's French along with the tower.

Really nothing that special, sorry
