(Some Guy) Asinine Big Brother's new toy can watch over a circle of countryside 600 miles in diameter, and they are building eleven of them. With high-res cameras, that could mean constant surveillance of every square inch of American soil   (guerrillanews.com) divider line 196

With Big Brother's penchant for efficiency, it will more likely mean that everyone within a three hundred mile radius of Washington, D.C., will be surveilled from eleven slightly different perspectives. In Hi-res.

will stay in a geocentric orbit for up to a year, undetectable by ground-based radar.

No, not universe. Just a heliocentric solar system. The universe doesn't have a definable center.

Anyway, that's not what's wrong with his statement.

Maybe the universe has a defineable center, we just can't define it that's all.

OMG....look out

a piece of technology as little understood as the blimp has been used in a seminal piece of fiction that treats a big brotheresque world.

My goodness this is scary. Wouldn't it be even scarier if there was a private company that had the technology to enable anyone with internet access to see anywhere in the world at will.

New's flash....just because the government can look anywere in the usa using blimps doesnt mean that they can percieve the totality of the united states. Furthermore....just because they don't have blimps...doesnt mean they can't already see a section (or sections) of the united states at will.

buttwick 2007-01-21 08:24:49 AM
ok...ok..this artical is totally farked...

why would you need a blimp to stay in geocentric orbit>????
I can't believe I passed over that

Churchill2004: Anyway, that's not what's wrong with his statement.

Yep. It isn't in orbit. (pops)

It is simply going to float 12 miles up and maintain it's position using, I assume, normal blimpy methods.

/just agreed with Churchill2004
//feels very very dirty.

b230fbuddy 2007-01-21 08:30:24 AM
So because camera had wide angle lense that means they are constantly viewing every single piece of information possible on the US ground? You do realize that even if the resolution for that minute level of detail was there, who is even going to look at it in real time, or be able to store it? That is a TON of live streaming data.

Capabilities What they plan on doing

What a bunch of paranoid hippies. Next they are going to write up an article about the sat's we already have in orbit that can do the exact same thing. OMG

It's simply amazing that we have allowed ourselves to become a society of inmates.

Freedom? Please. You have the freedom to work and pay more than half of your income to various taxes. (or more) We're just a bunch of sheep too stupid to exert our will. Wait a sec... will? Say goodbye to free will.

abdul: Fortunately, most of the pot growers nowadays are indoors.

I can think of lots of legitimate reasons to want to have a closer look at..well...everything.

But you probably have the right idea. As the article mentioned one of the first uses will be for border surveillance. And after that, the "war" on drugs.

After all, nobody can be against better border security. Right? And no politician that wants to maintain power will come out against anything that would help end drug abuse. I mean... it's for the protection of the kids!

After that we'll be used to the damned things and nobody will think to complain.

That's a lot of cameras. That, in turn, is a lot of Americans that have jobs watching screens all day.

Being Americans, they'll be fat, lazy, and disinterested. Former TSA employees or something.

So They still won't catch me.

Is this what Dubya meant when he said, "Make the pie higher"?

It's more of a blimpy like blimp thing than an actual pie shaped thing, but I suppose our president's never been all that particular about being... well, particular, so anyones guess is as good as mine.
