Unfortunately, it sounds like the producers are infuriating viewers right into cancellation.

/Hope not; Anders is dreamy

So I take it Starbuck lives?

let me guess..even MORE inane boring dialog and even LESS science fiction elements. The show jumped the shark last season...

I got 25 cents that says Caprica (Thricia Helfer) is the doomed member. I predict a power struggle that results in the destruction of an entire model....hers.
/You heard it here first.

Oh, and MixxMaster apparently never learned that a show that takes place in a sci-fi environment doesn't have to only be ABOUT the science fiction

Ever heard of Babylon 5? The best part was that the "sci-fi" aspect became purely secondary to the real drama of the show. Same story here, and it's better for it.

Don't forget Farscape too. Same deal there.

Aside from the ships and Cylons, this show is hardly SciFi. I find it hard to believe women will still be wearing high heels and doctors smoking in an a society with faster then light speed.

/still much better then Trek was since DS9 was cancelled (excluding last season of Enterprise)
//yes, nerd, but this beats Little Mermaid which my daughter is now watching

I'll bet the turn Baltar into a Cylon.

anal brazil men 2007-01-20 07:49:26 PM
The only thing that would have me upset is if they kill Baltar or Adama. They're my two favorite characters.

darkhorse23: I prefer outrage to boredom.

I totally agree. I like a show that has the courage to fark with its audience.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2007-01-20 08:04:06 PM
I'm tellin' ya - they'll kill off Caprica 6, turn Baltar into a Cylon and hit up the religious story line pretty heavy.

Never noticed the high heels, more the unisex bathrooms and seeming disregard for gender when it comes to jobs, etc. Which I thought was cool.

As for the smoking, I always thought that was pretty funny/random, but it just occurred to me that maybe it's not tobacco -- not to imply it's pot, but maybe its not carcinogenic? Or maybe the doctor just doesn't give a damn. Sure doesn't seem to care if it bothers his patients...

There might be a nihilistic element to it as well - they've sort of touched on the after effects of surviving the massacare of humanity but not in any direct way. To some extent, all of the characters have some level of survivor guilt. I'm pretty sure that Starbuck has a death wish (for example). And Baltar is a weird mix of suicidal guilt and obsessive fear of death.

I dunno. I can't shake the feeling that Baltar is going to screw up the Cylons as much as he screwed up humanity.

That's a good point. Definitely true of a lot of characters.

Ya think? heh

By far tho, Baltar has to be the most screwed up of them all. That episode where his internal Caprica was making love to him while he was being tortured by number 3 (D'anna model) was just plain demented. Tell me THAT didn't mess with his head something fierce!

And we still really don't know what's up with the internal Caprica Six hallucination. It's pretty clear that she's independant of Baltar and not just a figment of his imagination.

i like the corners cut off of papers, and pictures and books and even doors

they better not show rectangles, or i'll switch channels

ActualFarkal 2007-01-20 09:28:21 PM
You could show an hour of ships flying around and blowing the hell out of each other and I'd still watch it. That's the best part of the show. Put more of that back in.

Mateorocks 2007-01-20 09:38:40 PM
Are they going to kill off Lorne Greene?

/don't watch the show with any regularity

/I suppose its getting to be like the first one..

Kiler 2007-01-20 10:35:04 PM
I predict whoever dies will show up again in a later episode and will be one of the 5.

I'm waiting for the explanation for how long the human Cylons have been around for them to have their own religion related to the human plus somehow be linked to artifacts that are a few thousand years old.

Kiler 2007-01-20 10:37:21 PM
Another thing, I can't wait for new episodes to start so SciFi stops playing that damn craptastic emo song for their promos.

I can only come up with the following possible explanations:

1. Someone (or something) came to the Cylons and converted them to their religion.

2. The Cylons found some sort of solid evidence that conclusively proved the existence of all of the religious stuff (the scrolls of pythia, lords of Kobal, existence of Earth, ect ect).

Um....I like the intro music. It sort of sounds like the old 50's air raid sirens. That's what I always think of when I see the opening shot of all the nukes going off on Caprica anyways.

Kiler 2007-01-20 11:01:30 PM
I'm not talking about the opening song for the show. I'm talking about that "when darkness turns to light" crap.

wwtsomifitsd 2007-01-20 11:21:55 PM
I'd pay most of my annual income to watch Starbuck die. Real slow like. I'd pay what's left for Apollo's death, but I'd like his to be more on the comically ironic side. Maybe then I could watch the show without struggling.
If only the producers cared about my struggle...

Bat_Freak 2007-01-20 11:37:59 PM
Kiler: I'm not talking about the opening song for the show. I'm talking about that "when darkness turns to light" crap.

Yes. Thank you. It doesn't even make sense within the context of... anything.

"Helo, our daughter is still alive!" "We can sneak onboard the Basestar and find her..." "WHEN DARKNESS TURNS TO LIGHT..."

Ugh.

I have the feeling President Lady will die.

You know the whole thing about a dying leader who will die before they make it to Earth, etc....

Goldsfool: You know the whole thing about a dying leader who will die before they make it to Earth, etc....

About that... She was cured, right? Doesn't that make her pretty much useless in the prophecy now? I'm pretty sure their book calls for a "dying" leader. I'm confused. Can someone clarify this?

Devo37 2007-01-21 12:24:49 AM
they better not make baltar a cylon!!!

if baltar's a cylon, there would have been no reason for caprica 6 to seduce him in order to get the colonial codes. he could have just been activated as a sleeper agent.

human-baltar accidentally dooming humanity makes him a tragic figure. cylon-baltar doing it just ruins his whole storyline and the whole baltar-6 storyline.

legion_of_doo 2007-01-21 01:06:42 AM
It had better not be Boomer because she is real easy on the eyes.

And I too would not care either way if Starbuck or Apollo got axed... not that I don't like the actors, but their characters are FRAKKING ANNOYING.

She was cured, right? Doesn't that make her pretty much useless in the prophecy now? I'm pretty sure their book calls for a "dying" leader. I'm confused. Can someone clarify this?

NO, I'm still ANNOYED by the MAGIC CYLON STEM CELLS. "Science" Fiction?!! Hey, I can reverse terminal cancer in LESS THAN A SECOND! w00t!!!!

/if the President Stands-with-fist died, maybe the prophecy mumbo-jumbo would make more sense.

entropic_existence [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 01:12:00 AM
Well we know one of the episodes is supposed to deal with Baltar being a prisoner on Galactica and he and the others dealing with the possiblity of him being one of the final five.

As for which character will be dieing, rumour right now is that it will be Starbuck but since that was one of the Producers speculating it in a rather sideways manner it could always be a false one.

I still love the show.

They are toeing a fine line. And still have my love. But DONT YOU DARE BLOW IT MISTERS BECAUSE THE LAST HALF OF THE OLD VERSION SUCKED BALLS TOO.

Cracker_monkey_in_a_cage 2007-01-21 09:06:03 AM
the show is getting old. Last season when whats-his-name got all huffy and sabotaged a plan to kill off all the cylons was so farking stupid that the show lost any sense of "realism" (ya I know its sci-fi).

Robots come in and kill billions of people, is trying to hunt you to extinction and you whine about how history will judge you?

Wouldn't happen. Ever.

Maybe she's not what they meant by 'leader' after all...

(i hope i'm wrong, because that means they're going to kill adama & he's the best actor on that whole farking show)

I hope this season is as good as the first when the show was way darker. I liked the first episodes when they showed the crew struggling to stay ahead of the Cylons, etc.

I'm waiting for the explanation for how long the human Cylons have been around for them to have their own religion related to the human plus somehow be linked to artifacts that are a few thousand years old.

I just assumed the religion was some sort of extension of their programming, I mean they were originally programmed by humans who believed in the same basic religion. I always viewed the Cylons as sort of a different sect of the same basic human religion. They believe in the same gods and all, just a different interpretation of the scrolls & such. I could be way off on that though.

Kind of. She can still die of something before reaching Earth and fulfill the prophecy. But I have a feeling her whole cancer thing is a red herring.

I think Baltar is going to turn out to be the dying leader in the prophecy. His imaginary Caprica seems to be grooming him to be a leader and it's his research that is taking them to earth. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out later on that he is dying from something.

STARBUCK DIES

That Is All.

Logweasel 2007-01-21 12:36:03 PM
If you follow the quote -

"We will experience the devastating loss of a much loved character who is central to 'Galactica,' and it will shake the crew to the core."

Then it won't be a cylon model who dies. If it's Adama, I might stop watching. Pretty much anyone else can die, though. No one else on the crew has any gravitas - they're all basically a bunch of whiners with Adama as their caretaker.

Stile4aly 2007-01-21 02:23:05 PM
Number 3 (Xena, warrior cylon) is getting boxed. Starbuck's future isn't too bright. And for some reason, I'm thinking something is going to happen to Colonel Tigh. It would be interesting if he turned out to be a Cylon.

dionysos [recently expired TotalFark] 2007-01-21 02:41:05 PM

The question becomes, how? I really hope the whole 'resurrection ship is too far away' thing doesn't become like the sarcophagus in Stargate; in other words a convenient plot gimmick that gets overused.

Haydonimo: How many more seasons can this show last?

I'm wondering that too... I think they have 5 planned seasons, but honestly, I'm only seeing enough material to last through the rest of this season and half of a fourth.

No doubt they'll pull another New Caprica on us, though.

Haydonimo 2007-01-21 04:07:01 PM
Well the whole new Caprica thing didn't even last that long. They should have drawn out the whole guerrila war/Iraq parable a little longer.

I agree that it can't possibly go much longer either. What is there between now and finding Earth. Uncovering a few more Cylons just won't do it.

No he's talking about being Boxed. So they take that particular Number 3 (De'anna sp?) and kill her, but instead of letting her resurrect they download her consciousness into some sort of device and lock it away forever. For the cylons this is the ultimate punishment.

Heroic Poser 2007-01-21 05:30:18 PM
Lemme guess.

The Cylons get evil again instead of being the Vampire Lestat of the galaxy and somebody, somewhere smiles.

All Apologies 2007-01-21 08:12:50 PM
4 hours to go.

I've been under the impression that the Cylon religion is exactly the same as the human religion, and that the cylons just inserted themselves into it through choosing to interpret it differently. In a way, the Clyons are trying to become human, especially with the whole interbreeding thing.

Tricia Helfer is going to be in Playboy. Woot.
