I saw the movie and while it didn't suck, it wasn't that great for either fans or the casual public. For real fans, the throwing away of the past, such as Picard getting all chummy and barely caring about breaking the prime directive on that planet with the aliens was annoying. For casual fans, who didn't know or care about Remus and Picard's clone and why he wanted to kill all, the plot kinda sucked and all the special effects in the world wasn't going to save it.

Worst of all, no one explained what Wil was doing on the Enterprise in a Starfleet uniform after last being seen telling Picard to take this job and shove it, I'm off with the Traveler. :-)

I couldn't figure out why the guy wanted to destroy Earth. Seemed stupid.

At least it wasn't as bad as Insurrection.

Brent Spiner should have tried for a Night Court spinoff rather than TNG. Then he wouldn't be in this position of having been paid to make crap movies.

He was good on Enterprise as the augments guy.

Here's a hint for whoever's writing the next one: "Lets make a movie for the fans, because that's the people who actually go to see the films" does NOT mean you should work in every hackneyed plot device that satirists (justifiably) mock Trek (and sci-fi in general) for. I mean, there was an evil twin in the film, for the the love of Q! That should be the first sign that your script needs to be buried at a crossroads with a stake through its heart, least it rise again to drink the blood of the living.

When the computer told Picard that the self-destruct wasn't functioning, I couldn't help muttering under my breath "Aw fark! Even in the future nothing works!" The only difference was that, unlike Spaceballs or Galaxy Quest, Nemesis took itself oh-so-seriously while tossing out one cliche after the next.

Couldnt have anything to do with the fact that they actually had a really good script and hacked out anything relating to plot in favor of starship battles, could it?

Give Wil a real role in a trek film/series and I'll go. Otherwise suck it Pair-a-merde.

Emesis, I mean Nemesis, was easily the worst Trek film ever, worse even than ST-V. The plot made absolutely no sense, and like in T-5, the main characters and the rest of the crew of the ship all do really stupid things they would never normally do, just to move the plot in the direction they wanted it to go. Painful. Waching Nemesis, I got the distinct feeling they had made a movie twice as long, then cut out every GOOD part in the editing process. It sucked spaceballs. Spiner's role was hardly the main factor. The fans came out dutifully, full of expectations after Partick Stewart waxed on go massively about how great this one was going to be. And we got a bunch of crap fed to us. Garbage plot, messed-up characterization, non-canon behaviors. PLEASE!

Nemesis marked the last time I ever watched anything Star Trek. And I remember when it first came on TV, way back when ...but losing 2 hours of my life to that, that....utter dreck was just inexcusable.

I like the fact that there was a plot hole. Not just any plothole, one big enough to drive the freaking Enterprise through.

Another one that came to mind during Riker's "mano a reman" battle in the Jeffries tube: "Ducts... why does it always have to be ducts?"

Hmm, come to think of it, Nemesis might have been slightly improved if Crusher and Troi had used the classic Uhura shadow dance to distract the Remans. Or, you know, maybe not.

And Wil was in it? I must have missed that part.

Gahbrone: First Contact

That's the only Next Generation movie that I can actually remember the plot to.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2007-01-21 09:01:16 AM
He was right in a way. The script was leaked months ahead of time and the internet fan boys universally shat upon it. They refused to listen though.

Oh, and it might also have to do with the fact that it opened between Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Well...

in defense of Insurrection, it was odd-numbered...

Pixelvision 2007-01-21 01:09:33 PM
Nemesis was a rip-off of previous star trek films. Mainly 2 and 6

Wil was at Riker & Troi's wedding in a Fed uniform. All his dialogue/scenes were cut out.

Well, I was going to point out the obvious, but it's already been done. Thanks everyone.

ST-V went for seven seasons, maybe 2-3 seasons too long but it kept the trek universe alive and did not massacre the essence (too badly)...well at least until the very end. Well, Trek is dead and will be dead for a very (good...ANY? TNG/DS9/ST-E movie) long time. Bad ratings killed Trek, and it will stay dead for that reason alone.

/DS9 and VOY Convert

Star Trek will rise again when it is no longer being helmed by the current creative team, but when the generation that grew up watching the old shows takes over.

See: Doctor Who
