That is probably the worst 'crowd' photo I've ever seen.

I'd insert a "In Communist China" joke here, but I'm afraid the filter would eat it like it doies for the old "Soviet" jokes.

/either that, or I can't think of a good joke

They don't have time to watch TV.
They have to make our crappy Wal*Mart stuff in their sweat shops 24/7.

/back to work!

So the satellite is like communism: it works...in theory.

Kosta's right, two people do not a crowd make, especially in China.

You know, you guys laugh about communism and all that fluff, but when is the last time the US Government talked about giving services out for free. Hell you have to pay to go into some National Parks these days.

Nanan 2006-11-28 11:52:16 AM
The US can't say crap about sending crap into space and it not functioning 100%, hello NASA crashed a rover into Mars at 800+mph due to a conversion error... We managed to land another rover on Mars and it gets a BSOD with out anyone to push the reset button. High gain antenna/solar collectors are Mylar film with a structural support akin to an umbrella...

You have a strange definition of "for free" Where do you think money for this comes from?

Evil Twin Skippy's a pinko commie! (jk)

Just FYI there are towns/villages in China that still don't have electricity or running water.... yea communism! making China more modern! or at least areas they care to make modern..

Evil Twin Skippy: is the last time the US Government talked about giving services out for free?

I'm really hoping that Skippy was being sarcastic, because otherwise he wins the Dumbass Crown of the day.

Ever heard of welfare? You don't actually think any of those folks are actually paying for all the government services and assistance they get, right?

Ever heard of the interstate system? Sewers? There's a lot that people take for granted.

You can stop trying to shove quarters into your GPS receiver. That space based service is "free" too.

Of course, with the government controlling the media there, I'm sure it own't be hard to broadcast 500 channels of the same stuff!

/wait.. what?

Read up about the history of GPS and selective availability.

I'll give 'em welfare "for free", but to say the interstate or sewer system is free is a stretch - taxes, etc. If I'm on the highway, I'm more likely to b*tch about the state of repair even AFTER paying my taxes!

/Get off my lawn!

The idea that government has this magic ability to give out things for free is just silly.

nothing is free; it is paid paid for with our my tax money.

BHShaman 2006-11-28 12:44:21 PM
We could send up the space shuttle and fix that for you, Union Rates.

KellyLockhart [TotalFark] 2006-11-28 12:47:40 PM
rcaston : nothing is free; it is paid paid for with our my tax money.

However, only about 50% of us actually pay any taxes. And those that don't are the ones receiving the government largesse, so they indeed are getting "free stuff".

Kosta: Read up about the history of GPS and selective availability.

"On 2 May 2000, "Selective Availability" was discontinued, allowing users outside the US military to receive a full quality signal."

Full quality GPS signal has been free worldwide since 2000, artard.

Just as well, they weren't going to show The Simpsons. But the USSR/Russia, USA, and everyone lese who has sattelites has some fail to work now and then. Except Poland. They keep them on Earth to make them easier to fix. And the Arabs, they blow them up instead of launching them. And the Colombians, they hide them in other countries rockets. And the Irish, they veer off course. And the Swiss, they can't decide to launch them or not. And the French, they give up before launching them. And the Jews, they prefer to rent, as defects are paid for by the owners. And the Germans, they keep landing in Russia.

Probably made a conversion error between English and metric units...
