This reminds me of Smokey and the bandit 3.
You know, the one they should have titled Smokey and the Bandit 3.

Did we really need a Van Wilder #2?

Seriously -- wasn't all that needed to be said, said in the first one?

Can't we summon Wil to smack some sense into Hollywood? Good god the movies they produce suck so bad it hurts.

Good god the movies they produce suck so bad it hurts.

Just remember - revenue is down ENTIRELY due to piracy. Crappy scripts and terrible movie ideas have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

# Deep Core (2000)
aka Deep Core 2000 (USA)
# The Girls' Room

I'm not gonna say anything.

Ungh... studio heads should be forced to shove roughly hewn toothpicks up their urethras every time films like this are made.

Ummm... yeah... I don't think Wil moves *that* much weight around Hollywood.

/Hitchcock would be great

Van Wilder was an awesome, funny movie. But with this one, the trailer didn't even make me laugh.

/likes Kal Penn.

skinink 2006-11-12 11:24:33 PM
And the worse part is, even though the movie only cost $14 million to make, if it makes, say $83 million dollars, the movie will still be considered a bomb. Because the MSM wants you to think its successful.

Reason # 9483 that hollywood profits are down. They made Van Wilder 2. - - without Van Wilder

There, fixed that for you.

rcain [TotalFark] 2006-11-12 11:29:08 PM
Personally, I'm of the opinion that in such a purely existential piece as Van Wilder, it takes the character development to a far deeper plateau for there to be a Van Wilder movie without Van Wilder.

Yea... I hear the voices of the unilluminated give ascent to their greivance.
But it is not up to I to educate you all in the ways of cosmic knowledge.
Instead, I only ask that you trust me when I say that in Van Wilder 2, you shall come to know Van Wilder in ways not possible had he actually been there.

Okay all Farkers:

Let's join our money together, buy enough stock in a movie studio that we'd collectively be the majority share holders, or at least enough that we'd have some collective weight to throw around, and produce the good movies that we want to see.

/Instead of biatching about movies that suck, we can produce movies that won't suck.

I'd probably still bed you anyway.

Funkmaster Frank 2006-11-12 11:32:38 PM
I wish rcain would share his stash. And yes, this is the reason profits are down. If people don't like your product, they won't pay for it. End of story.

Unfortunately, most studio bosses surround themselves with sycophants (sp?), or as they are commonly referred to, yes men.

I believe a lot of this has something to do with the "Brokeback Mountain" phenom. You see, they spent $14m on a movie and made $84m gross sales in the US - that is now considered 'good' as far as movies go. With the bar thus lowered, everyone is making up films about all sorts of buggery and it will all end in turtlesex. The media hypes up the films while the MIAA goes broke causing a disruption to the battery-driven economy in the pacific rim.

skiniain 2006-11-12 11:35:57 PM
part of the problem surely is the premise that an Indian kid via some lame American College is going to teach rich and privileged British kids how to party...they would eat the young lad for breakfast, and then go on partying

"Van Wilder" was absolutely terrible garbage. Ryan Reynolds is like a male Jennifer Garner, only without her charisma and screen presence.

What an outrage, that Hollywood would try to make quick with a sequel to a movie that featured a guy having explosive diarrhea in a trash can during a job interview.

'The Diary of Anne Frank: The Real Story'

I'm not sure how much road there is to go that hasn't been trampled to death by this point. Unless you want to go the trendy route, which seems to be either have it in a foreign language (preferrably Asian) or have the romantic relationship be teh ghey. Everything's been done to death. There's nothing new. It's the end.

Ryan Reynolds was funny in Van Wilder. The eclair scene actually made me turn my head, and I've seen Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox and Highlander 2.

For everyone complaining that Hollywood is a whore that only churns out sequels, remakes and sequels to shiatty remakes (TCM:The Beginning)?

You're right.

Hollywood is always going to follow the money trail. They have no reason not to. They're in a business and the money comes in from these projects which, while we find reprehensible, put asses in the seats.

Just make sure that you're showing your kids, nephews and nieces, stuff from the old days. Explain what was so wonderful about them. Somehow, I managed to get my nephew jazzed about Creature from the Black Lagoon. And when he's old enough, I'll show him Brick, a movie that was one of the best of last year.

We can't count on Hollywood to make good movies. In fact, we can almost count on them not to.
