Zakaria really needs to be given a job in some sort of policy advising position in every administration from here on out.

No matter what happens from here on out, the Iraq war is sure to result in one thing: that Lyndon Jonson will not seek his party's nomination for the Presidency.

Farking Sweet 2006-11-12 07:42:16 PM
Mabye this new Iraqi govt had ties to 9/11? Time to free them again!

The opposite is happening today. American military efforts are actually being undermined by Iraq's government. The stark truth is, we do not have an Iraqi partner willing to make the hard decisions

Owned by incompetence.

GeorgeCostanza 2006-11-12 07:43:58 PM
Is it Britney and K-Fed's chessboard?

"And one last thing: for such a threat to be meaningful, we must be prepared to carry it out."

same as raising children.

They won't be our puppet? Oh noes!

What KaponoFor3 said. Zakaria has consistently been a sensible voice regarding Iraq.

So, what's the price of tea in China again?

FTA:
Even if Iran and Syria actually agreed to help stabilize Iraq

Force their hand... Leave now.
As Zakaria correctly points out, they fear a chaotic Iraq more than we do: it's right next door to them. Let's make a run for the border.
Order every American commander to have his forces, with as much equipment as they can bring along, across the Kuwaiti border by December 31st. Leave the remaining hardware... on fire.
Tell the Iranians, Syrians, and Turks sometime right before Christmas that we're leaving. Let them handle it.

I don't give a flying fark what happens to Iraq, its people, or the oil. I'm not willing to trade one more American soldier for this mess. Bring them home now.

???Wars still goin on in the middle east????
Thought they'd nuked their azz's ages ago.

/War is no fun when you can't get your midnight munchies without the fuzz pegging you as a terrorist.

I watch this guy's show on PBS sometimes, and his eyes look like they could burn holes in you.

Whatever you're saying, Fareed--I believe you.

Right now, i have stopped caring what happens to the Iraqis. I know that's an incredibly selfish thing to say, but that place is tearing itself apart from the inside as we all know. I just want my boyfriend home. He works with the Iraqi police and says the place is a shiatstorm and it's only getting worse. A year ago, I had people telling me that investing in the Iraqi dinar was an incredibly smart thing to do as the economy there would only go up. Glad I didn't listen

ZombieCohagen 2006-11-12 07:54:57 PM
zakaria is one smart dude, read him in newsweek every chance I get.

Phil Moskowitz 2006-11-12 07:55:02 PM
Great, so we get the people with the finger puppets out to explain why this belligerent foray failed, just like last time. It'd be just spectacular if the working and middle class already learned this shiat in school.

Theres one fact that a lot of people don't realize:

The USA is not in control of what happens in Iraq.

ronaprhys 2006-11-12 07:59:44 PM
What? No droids reference? I'm ashamed.

bakatare 2006-11-12 08:04:13 PM
rbuzby: The USA is not in control of what happens in Iraq.

But now with Democrats back in the majority, we can at least feel all warm and fuzzy about what happens in Iraq.

orclover 2006-11-12 08:05:23 PM
I used to give a flying fark for what would happen to Iraq if we left it in the mess it was, but after the local Gov was telling our troops to pull up all thier checkpoints so the iraqi govs death squads could run around unimpded I could care less what happens to Iraq, or Syria, or Iran, or especially Saudi Arabia.

Pull out, move every millitary unit to South Korea and Taiwan to freak out the Chinese for the hell of it. Let the middle east eat each other until the israelites get sick of it and bomb thier nighbors back to the paleolithic age. Then send plane-loads of hippies with copies of greenpeace manifestos and tofu as a condolance gesture.

lumpfish 2006-11-12 08:19:43 PM
So give the elected gov the power and responsibility. Support them with our weapons and intelligence as requested, but let them work/fight it out.

But also get them to hold a new round of elections relatively soon. That makes the people accept the responsibility for making it work or not, because they vote for them.

And keep the Kurds happy!

GeorgeCostanza 2006-11-12 08:19:52 PM
Tegro:

Wow. I would pay good money for that.

Seems like a lot of this stuff should have been thought out before we invaded Iraq, or at least a little earlier than three years into the occupation.

While I don't frequently wish this, I really wish I was black.

Who is black in this senario anyway? Certainly not the Iraqies. Maybe the terrorists can claim a moral victory in our failure. I would like to point out to the NSA that Son of God has declared his desire to be a terrorist.

cankersnore 2006-11-12 09:04:38 PM
No, Joshua, I want to play global thermonuclear war.

BillSPreston 2006-11-12 09:06:39 PM
Not that this would be news to the NSA. I am sure that they have realized for quite some time that a liberal hippie like Jesus must be a terrorist sympathizer.

Hick [TotalFark] 2006-11-12 09:17:00 PM
Well there is not much you can do about a situation like this.

Quite the stinky beans I tell ya. I will punt and let the defence hold the playcard. You know what I mean, this is not good..or is it?
