that just gives me more time to get the goods!

The place where I bought gold (for someone else) awhile back was like that. It had an outer door, and then an inner door. Both were controlled by someone out of sight. If someone did rob the place, I suspect they would be trapped between the doors in the compartment that looked pretty hard.

Chicago Police arrived nearly 30 minutes later

I read that right? Half an hour for an IN city responce on two 911 calls and a panic alarm?!

"When you're dealing with a store like this, they're insured up the ass. They're not supposed to give you any resistance whatsoever. If you get a customer, or an employee, who thinks he's Charles Bronson, take the butt of your gun and smash their nose in. Everybody jumps. "

Well, I know it took them 2.5 hours for a noise complaint... and the police station was 1/2 mile away.

meh.

It would seem to me that that lock on the front door would be against most if not all local fire codes. If a fire starts and the owner disappears out the back, leaving his customers in front locked in the building.. Doesn't seem safe to me.

This will only teach them to stand outside the store and rob the customers who came out.

Anybody have a link to the video of another jewelry store where the owner locked a thief inside, and the thief started attacking the owners?

They should have the entrance like an airlock.

zefal 2006-11-12 09:25:23 PM
That's entrapment!!!

geetus 2006-11-12 09:27:54 PM
If I were the thief, I'd find that button & buzz myself out before I just gave up & let myself get arrested.

mantrap.

Oldest trick in the book.

People who run jewelry stores are *expecting* to get robbed at some point, and have likely thought out their cunning plan better than you did.

It wont open because its a security door!

The articles "a" and "the" must not be part of smitty's vocab.

Smartassshanna 2006-11-13 02:08:51 AM
"Snatch" anyone?

Sol: Are you all right there Vincent?
Vinny: I would be if you stopped using my name.

and a classic quote, perfect for this incident:

Bullet Tooth Tony: You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Actually, the owner was quite dumb. He "thought" they might not have a gun. If they weren't in a bulletproof mantrap, he was just putting the lives of his customers at risk.
