I got a tatoo above my left floating ribs of the Sanskrit reading "Ganeshka". Hurt like hell, naturally. Unfortunately, I haven't used it as the reminder I intended it to be: "to remove obstacles on the path of wisdom"

Drat! I remembered it from the DVD but didn't have time to get the exact quote, and I saw it both ways on Google.

Yeah, offer the peanut to Ganapati and you`ll prolly get publically executed in southern india.

/According to the housekeeper we once had in India she said that Ganapati is a very nice god.

Odd when a google search and GIS turn up different things. The regular search turned up more than just GBA box art.

Although I do believe that's a PSP in the kids' hands in the picture...

Hey, you guys want to do something fun?

Get two hot indian chicks, one ABCD and the other FOB, and take them out to a bar, then mention Ganesha and listen to them argue about whether you pronounce the "a" at the end of the name.

Classic fun.

Ganesh is not a god. More like a little inconsequential court jester in the grand pantheon of aryan gods. The main ones are: brahma, vishnu and shiva (and their various avatars)... none of which are ganesh. He is loved by many but has very little real "godlike" powers..

Lace Valentine 2006-11-12 03:23:08 PM
Now I know how Ganesh got his one tusk broken: over a domestic beating.

Timmaay: Ganesh, not Ganesha.

Actually Ganesh, Ganesha, Ganesa or Ganapati are all acceptable variants of the same deity.

What does "ABCD" mean? The closest I know is "ABC", which means "American-born Chinese".

Btw, "FOB" means "fresh off the boat", as in first-generation immigrant or someone who acts in a manner typical of a recent immigrant.

Ahh to those americans who know known about the indian culture....ABCD = American Born Confused Desi(indian in hindi), now FOB = Fresh Off the Boat(you know indians who smell and girls who have frizzy hair).
Ganesha is a god, hindus have about 33 million gods and goddeses. He might not be the almighty power god but he is someone they worship.

/Lived in india for 6 years off and on.
//Going back this dec for vaca.

"They were just so cuddly," said a 20-year-old neighbor. "Everyone wanted that kind of relationship."

Somehow the word "cuddly" just didn't come to mind.
Unless by cuddle you mean rolling about in a heated struggle which culminates in the driving of a knife into your lovers chest.

/Whatever helps you get your freak on I guess

Teesri Aankh

The word 'Arya' in Sanskrit means noble and never a race. ..The Rig Veda...never to mean a race...the Europeans adopted the ancient word to give expression to their nationalistic and other aspirations.

You are somewhat correct but are missing the big picture. Do you know what 'Varn/varna' means in sanskrit ? The caste system and inter-caste marriage laws come straight from Vedic scriptures and are based exclusively on skin color (which would be pretty racist by todays standards).

The vedas are permeated with the concept of race and in fact, a noble religious duty of an aryan (hindu) is to kill the "black skinned" sub-humans (and there are many celebrations of doing so in the vedas)

It really is all moot.. the aryan religion is defined by the 4 vedas and the 2 epics and there is enough misogyny and racism in there to last a lifetime...although still much less than say the old testament.

Why am I the first to note that they had *6* kids between them?

/I really don't know what else to say

eldie 2006-11-12 10:03:34 PM
Story is a bit strange. The couple gets others to care for the six children they have between the two of them to have a "romantic" weekend and then have a "Gameboy" party. Assume it's a party where guests come over to play gameboy, and get drunk and stoned. Doesn't seem that romantic to me. Especially, when your husband comes back stoned and accuses you of sleeping with another man. Maybe the couple should have gone away to a romantic hotel somewhere. Also, a little suspicious when you leave off the part to the police that your husband has a fatal stab wound to the chest and just mention hitting him with elephant statue.
