Ok, this deserves to be bumped into commented. That dude is friggin awesome.

There are actually two of the main voiceover guys. Saw a segment on TV recently about them both. They are both worth about a brazilian dollars.

swahnhennessy 2006-11-12 06:09:35 AM
Whoever the guy(s) is/are, they annoy me. Whenever I see a trailer with that voice-over, I wonder why the studio couldn't get some balls and try something different instead of just feeding us the cliché. But I guess we react to it - "Oooh, movie voice guy! Here comes an epic saga!"

Persepolis 2006-11-12 06:24:12 AM
Haha, funny vid.

Is it too early for a salad?

It's never... to early.... for a SALAD!

That's my favorite line too, Persepolis

I've noticed fewer movie trailers are using "the movie" voice these past few years.

Asako 2006-11-12 01:04:14 PM
This reminds me of the story NPR did recently on the political attack ad guys reading nursery rhymes.

That was hilarious.

Check it out at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6450663

Mark_UK 2006-11-12 01:04:27 PM
There is another guy who does the other half of the trailers: Hal Douglas

He did the very funny trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian (YouTube, pops)

"No I like it in here"

Don LaFontaine is my hero.

Seriously, that must be the greatest job in the world. You can sit in a studio in your sweats in your own house, talk into a mike, and get paid greatly to do it. Plus there's the satisfaction of having one of the coolest voices ever.

/Funny video, though

godiluvbeer 2006-11-12 01:08:22 PM
Don LaFontaine is great. i'd love to have a job like that one day, i just need someone to recognize this trillion dollar voice. ok, not really...though i would love to do it.

And the scary thing is, he LOOKS like the way I'd imagined.

/either your best bowling partner who remembers to bring the sixpack, or someone you do NOT want to meet in a dark alley.

I definitely give the guy props for having one of the coolest voices in the world, but how long will it be until a computer can do his job? There are companies working dilligently on awesome artificial speech software.

Rattrap007 2006-11-12 01:41:57 PM
Don LaFontane rocks.. but one of the true gods of Voice Acting is Frank Welker. The guy is incredible. You hear a dog bark on a movie.. that might be Frank. Guy does animals (he did the parrot in Deep Blue Sea), cartoons (He was Megatron in G1 Transformers), and tons of stuff.
