I think the glass dragon will soon be replaced as the gift nerds will give to girls who will never touch them.

Cool. Clear is my favorite color.

me at home making a glass wing.

Never seen one of those before - very pretty. My cats would enjoy ripping the wings off, I'm sure...

Farkin Amazing

Sorcere 2006-11-12 01:24:32 PM
If you pull the wings off I bet they would make a terrific pair of glasses. All cool and shiat. We could probably get $500 per pair. That would be awesome. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

How long before we see these things as tramp stamps?

Godzilla [TotalFark] 2006-11-12 01:25:13 PM
What do they look like in the caterpiler state?

Very cool creature.

cheap_thoughts 2006-11-12 01:36:26 PM
This gets greenlighted like, five times a year. Its not cool anymore.

Nature can be beautiful at times...but then she created what REAL SHAMAN posted. I hate those friggin spiders. They give me a case of the jibblies.

Maybe not for you, Mr. Leet, but for those of us who have until now missed it, or for newcomers, I think it's a worthy link, and if you could just refrain from posting a boring, meaningless comment about how uber you are at noticing every story, that'd be great.

dvedis 2006-11-12 02:26:53 PM
Those are really pretty, but i like the eye glasses idea

fark should just have a place to put links for newcomers to check out.

Peekoo 2006-11-12 02:46:16 PM
I've seen these before. When they fly, they look extremely strange and floppy because most of their wings aren't visible.

Teucer 2006-11-12 03:16:02 PM
So this is what, the third time this year we've seen this on FARK?]

/I should just submit this again in two months, it'll be sure to be greenlit

brokenhandle 2006-11-12 03:18:52 PM
Why have Vista when you can look through the wings of a glasswing. Sounds much cheaper for neat effects.

bondgirl 2006-11-12 03:26:39 PM
Well, I've been on Fark for... *checks profile* almost five years, and this is the first time I've seen these pics. I guess I've just missed the link before. Very pretty.

Bubonis 2006-11-12 03:26:55 PM
This is, I think, the seventh time these pictures were greenlighted.

SwiftFox [TotalFark] 2006-11-12 03:28:43 PM
So why do other butterflies and moths have so much trouble flying if they knock some of the scales off their wings, ending up with transparent spots like these?

Teucer 2006-11-12 03:55:42 PM
Bubonis

The mods should greenlight this twice again today. For a trifecta!

studebaker hoch 2006-11-12 05:11:08 PM
Being transparent is great camoflage. The butterflies have apparently found it to their advantage, and evolved that way. (if you don't believe in evolution, just say "God made them that way").

Spiders creep me out too. I'm very glad they don't scale well.

Internet 2006-11-12 05:22:57 PM
Gee, I've NEVER seen pics of glasswing butterflies greenlit before. It definitely hasn't already happened like 10 times.

LordOrion 2006-11-12 05:44:36 PM
With all this talk of arachnophobia, I guess its a damn good thing spiders can't fly!!

dbaggins - fark should just have a place to put links for newcomers to check out.

I like that idea. I'm not so new, but I never figured out the whole pickle thing.

This would have been better if the photos were in focus.

If you want to know what the "Pickle Incident" was on Fark, GIS for "pickle incident", and it's the image at mid page.

WARNING: Graphic Content!

The Glasswing Butterfly would be a cool name for a head shop.
