Godfrey

That was great, but what happened to the stupid comments that were here like "Did you hear his parents died?"

These comments get old and tiring--If you've got more cool stuff like your "Turnaround Polka" I'd like to hear it.

/Years ago I lived in Lakeview, Oregon (don't ask) and the only radio we could get clearly in the morning was 'Uncle Otto's Polka Party'..sometimes life sucks.

I've always wanted to make an album of parodies of Weird Al's original songs...

That was cool. You covered a bit of everything in this one!

I saw Weird Al perform live back in the late 80's. It was at the one Knott's Berry Farm Halloween Haunt where Elvira did not put on her show.

My expectations were low, but I was damn impressed by the quality of the show, the showmanship, and the musical chops, he and his band put on. It was better than many straight acts that I paid for. Plus it was damn funny!

I remember my introduction to Weird Al on Dr. Demento from his old KLOS days in Los Angeles with his first record, Another One Rides the Bus. I believe it was recorded in a public restroom. Wow, I am getting old.

It's been a long ride Weird Al. You have survived all that you parodied and still go on strong. Congrats!

Godfrey 2006-10-28 01:29:16 AM
Thanks, everyone!

Invader Flak, I restricted it to original songs by Weird Al. (I wanted to do more, including oldies like Mr. Frump, but ran out of time.)

I hope there are more entries...

So was I the only one kinda expecting Godfrey's to be about Phoenix Wright?

nonexistent: So was I the only one kinda expecting Godfrey's to be about Phoenix Wright?

I had the same thought.
I think it's quite awesome anyway, very appropriate. I added it to my playlist alongside Weird Al's actual polka medleys.

This Birthday Song is just eight words loooooong...

nonexistent 2006-10-28 05:18:01 AM
Oh, I agree, it was good. I'm just sayin, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the word "turnabout".

Gozerian 2006-10-28 05:38:39 AM
Just one song...weaksauce. I wish I was a tfer, then I'd either do nothing at all, or a lot of something all at once.

Good song though

There is nothing on this earth like a metallica show, and there is nothing on this earth like a weird al show.

SpaceCowboy 2006-10-28 06:07:40 AM
Oh yeah, and good shiat godfrey. I wish I had more motivation, i'd do one kinda like it...

Any of you wanting to do one, go get some polka background music, pick your parodies and just sing along :D

I actually met Werid Al during the filming of UHF. They filmed the scene in his girlfriends' apartment in the complex where my dad used to live. I was about 9 years old. It was awesome. Nice guy. He gave me 2 autographs (one for my brother) that I lost a long time ago. Some of my friends were even extras in the movie.

So sad to hear about his parents (kidding!).

/been listening to him for 23 years.
//great AE, Godfrey - brought back some memories

Ironically, there is a song called, "Happy Birthday" by Weird Al that is quite appropriate.

"Happy Birthday"

Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you

Well, it's time to celebrate your birthday, it happens every year
We'll eat a lot of broccoli and drink a lot of beer
You should be good and happy that there's something you can eat
A million people every day are starving in the street

Your daddy's in the gutter with the wretched and the poor
Your mama's in the kitchen with a can of Cycle Four
There's garbage in the water
There's poison in the sky
I guess it won't be long before we're all gonna die

Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you

Well, what's the matter little friend, you think this party is the pits
Enjoy it while you can, we'll soon be blown to bits
The monkeys in the pentagon are gonna cook our goose
Their finger's on the button, all they need it an excuse

It doesn't take a military genius to see
We'll all be crispy critters after World War III
There's nowhere you can run to, nowhere you can hide
When they drop the big one, we all get fried

(Come on boys and girls, sing along, ok?)

Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
wow! (background screaming, sound effect)

Well there's a punk in the alley and he's looking for a fight
There's an Arab on the corner buying everything in sight
There's a mother in the ghetto with another mouth to feed
Seems that everywhere you look today there's misery and greed

I guess you know the Earth is gonna crash into the sun
But that's no reason why we shouldn't have a little fun
So if you think it's scary, if it's more than you can take
Just blow out the candles and have a piece of cake

Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
wow!

Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you

(Happy Birthday!)

And a pinch to grow an inch!

I met Al in 1996 after his show in Vancouver, BC. They filmed the show for (I think), HBO. I've never seen the video, but the live show was fantastic.

After the show, I hung out near the tour bus and waited for over an hour for the band to come out, then finally Al. He made a point of talking with each of us, and there were about a 100 people there. I got his autograph, and autographs from all of the band.

I met Weird Al at the Tower Records in on Sunset Blvd in L.A. around 1987. He was shopping for records (back when they still sold vinyl) I recognized him, though nobody else did, and we talked about music and jokes for about half an hour.
Then, after purchasing "Bad" by Michael Jackson, he invited me to go with him to a nearby cafe off the strip and met Dr. Demento for coffee.
I hung with both of them for about two hours. very cool.
He said he was so glad to meet a fan who wasn't either starstruck and speechless, or a pestering fame/autograph hound.

I met a lot of fairly famous types while I lived in L.A. and Venice Beach/Santa Monica, but my brunch with Al is probably my fave "star" hookup.
