But, the intent behind it is no different.

In both cases, they're lopping skin off of their kid simply because "it's the way it's always been done" and/or "because it's part of their religion".

There's a line between accepting other people's cultural practices, and being stupid about it.

Lots of people make money off of the fact that this line is a very fuzzy one.

As long as people make money off of cultural differences and the varying levels of acceptance--both of differences, and of determining what is universally acceptable--you'll get this sort of insanity.

So rather than slinging insults, it would perhaps be better for everyone to figure out a way in which to solve the problem--a middle way, as it were, allowing both cultural expression and maintaining the health of the people involved.

No. It's not at all. I'm cut. I have no pain and I've had thousands of orgasms. I'm not "pro genital mutilation", I'm just saying the male and female versions don't really compare in their after effects. The female variety is worse. Way, way worse.

Perpetuation stupid beliefs such as these are just another reason people need to understand their religion is just a myth, and not to be taken literally.

Male circumcisionis the equivalent of cutting off a hangnail, some hair, or a mole. It may not have much in medical necessiaty (a small chance it helps keep the number of infections down). But it has little to no downside. Sexual feeling, maybe. Mutilation...hardly.

Female circumcision serves no purpose, and has drastic side effects. If it didn't have the tendency of reinforcing male dominance, then it would not be used. There is no medical necessity, or even marginal benefit. There is only mutilation.

Please, try not to confuse the two.
