and to a 100 loss team...

at least we got the wildcard

monty666 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 06:29:53 PM
Ouch, at least they didn't wait for the playoffs to bring you Detroiters down, unlike the Pistons or the Red Wings.

RosevilleDan [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 06:35:02 PM
No, actually what I kept reading here was "The Tigers are going to win the most games during the season and then lose in the playoffs, just like the Red Wings and Pistons."

Now that the Tigers didn't win the division, the same people are saying "see--told you so."

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 06:41:45 PM
Check the archives, Roseville - I called it prior to the last series of the season. Because Yankee fans know ALL about how the lowly P.O.S. Royals can fark up your whole weekend.

Speaking as a Yankees fan, the Royals have a way of farking up your whole day just when you need them to play like, well, the Royals. Plus the White Sox are sucking it up. Minnesota takes the division, Yankees-Twins in the ALCS to determine who's getting the pretty rings after an exhibition with the winners of the National League.

Just to prove it.

/sorry it's not all italic-y and stuff, but

CygnusDarius [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 06:55:25 PM
But how about an army of Tigers?

SAvoodoo 2006-10-01 06:56:02 PM
and as a true tiger fan, i couldn't be happier. we made the playoffs. let me say that again...The Detroit Tigers are in the playoffs. that right there is enough for me to call it a successful season and claim jimmy as coach of the year

/we're just happy to be here

Exactly. Look at the Tigers two, three years ago.

Um.. lets look at the rest of the schedule.

Twins, 3 games against the white sox
Tigers, 3 games against the royals

Division tied, but Tigers hold the tie breaker.

Hmmmmmm I wonder who's gonna win? I dont know what the hell the hard on for the Twins is around this place, but it's a little retarded.

Enjoy your wildcard spot

This hurts more than any 119 loss season ever could.

You should have seen the Royals this weekend. Every key hit, every time they needed it. Diving for balls, no serious errors. I just cannot believe what i just witnessed.

I'm sure i'll be excited come Tuesday night, but right now this one hurts.

Watching the Twins win today, and watching Mauer get the batting title almost made up for watching the Vikings get more and more caught up in the vortex of suck that surrounds them.

I've said it before, and I hope to be saying it a lot in the coming weeks:

TWINS WIN TWINS WIN TWINS WIN

I never, ever get tired of typing that ;-)

It's gonna be a great October...

Yes, chouchou, I very much enjoy being right - especially when warning fans of other teams about the Kansas City Royals and them laughing at me at the time. As I said when the Twins locked up at least the Wild Card, congrats, enjoy. And now? See you in the ALCS for the World Series title, baby.

bsteiny 2006-10-01 07:29:18 PM
Just like in '87, MN finishes ahead of Tigers.

That was back when there was no AL Central.

We're gonna win, Twins!
We're gonna score
We're gonna win, Twins!
Watch that baseball soar...
Knock out a home run
Shout a hip hooray!
Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!

true, true. But, Bonser's been pitching well for the most part, and Garza's made some improvements since the first game he pitched. AND, don't forget Radke's back, albeit still with some shoulder issues. They'll be ok.

bsteiny my husband has been singing that song off and on all day

robsul82: Morneau and Mauer split the vote, and Jeter wins.

I think more people are talking about Santana as MVP than Mauer. Neither of them can really take much steam away from Morneau.

/Mor-yes

yaden24 2006-10-01 07:43:14 PM
Do you smell the Division title?

I do!

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:43:40 PM
Perfectly logical - the East Coast goes in a big bloc for Jeter, the West Coast spreads out votes, and the Midwest goes either Morneau or Mauer. Some will look at Mauer's batting title, some will care more about Mornaeu's contributions. NOT TO MENTION some who will toss a few votes away on Santana. Jeter wins, too bad. Derek Jeter is YOUR 2006 American League Most Valuable Player.

JestersTear 2006-10-01 07:48:48 PM
The worst thing about this is that Leyland will be worshipped as a hero and will probably get a raise that he doesn't deserve. The Tigers had a complete collapse in the last quarter of the season, and are only in the playoffs despite their best efforts. They only had to win ONE GAME against the worst team in baseball. ONE FARKING GAME. Two of the games saw them give up a major lead, and then the other saw them give up 7 runs in the first inning and never recover.

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:51:35 PM
Yeah, too bad you didn't copy and save as when I called Minnesota taking the division. No credit given for that, just scorn because I think Jeter carrying the team through the injuries to be close enough to wreck the Red Sox at Fenway was more important than either Mauer or Morneau. Nice. It's not my fault the Midwest will divide itself as to whether Morneau or Mauer was most valuable to the Twins' season this year. Want me to make ANOTHER prediction that will invariably come true, much like Minnesota winning the division? Here's you and the rest of the Twinkie faithful when Jeter wins -

"East Coast Bias, you know. He plays on the Yankees, he's Derek Jeter, he's horribly overrated, you know. Every other player on the other teams hate him. Oh well, at least we had THREE MVP-caliber players as opposed to only one, proving WE'RE the better team, that's why Jeter won. Yankees suck!"

Whether you love it or you hate it, learn to live with it, because Jeter's the MVP today.
