That headline makes my head hurt. It could use a few hyphens.

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:01:34 PM
I like the Germans' approach to Scientology. None of that tax-exempt nonsense like they get here.

drnugget [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:04:53 PM
Germany is a leading source of enturbulation.

GratuityIncluded 2006-10-01 07:10:44 PM
Germany, did you take time off from beating your wife to come down here?

/ what are your crimes?

INeedAName 2006-10-01 07:36:51 PM
I could Godwin this so fast...

seanmcd51 2006-10-01 07:38:27 PM
They came for the scientologists and I said nothing...Welcome back Germany 1941, we missed ya!

uncoveror 2006-10-01 07:39:20 PM
Scientology should be run out of the country on a rail anywhere, not just Germany. It is not a religion. It is not a legitimate business. It is a criminal organization that society should not tolerate.

Lauraness 2006-10-01 07:39:50 PM
Its not like Scientology is the first cult in Germany.

You complain about when Germany had youth brainwashing programs.

You complain about how Germany tries to stop youth brainwashing programs.

WHAT DO YOU WANT THE GERMANS TO DO???

EredarPoet 2006-10-01 07:42:14 PM
Worst.

Headline.

Ever.

Next time try English.

Was this headline orignially written in Xenu or German?!

Gee, the germans are fighting against brainwashing? It must be some bizzaro germany.

Anti-brainwashing.

When you join the "Church" of Scientology, do they provide the purple sheets and sneakers, or do I have to buy those seperately?

That headline reminds me of this:

alternative girlfriend [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:46:39 PM
anyone else concerned by the fact the US embassy is lobbying on behalf of scientology? why are lobbying for a "religion"?

btw, any religion that charges you for spiritual counciling is not a religion. that's a business.

alternative girlfriend [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:48:07 PM
ahem, why are "we" lobbying for a religion?

dgarg 2006-10-01 07:51:09 PM
The fact that Hubbard was a science fiction writer doesn't concern any of Scientologist's adherents?

Southpaw018 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:52:49 PM
I hereby propose a new Fark filter:
Scientology -> $cientology.

Bravo subby.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:53:59 PM
How come there are no Scientologist farkers?

nitemayr 2006-10-01 07:54:50 PM
dgarg, the fact that the Bible wasn't written by the people who were there or even by people who were alive at the time doesn't seem to concern any of its followers either. That's what faith is, belief without reason.

Religion, it goes in the brain and the "heart"
Reason, it's for those egg-heads in their ivory towers

olddinosaur 2006-10-01 07:54:55 PM
German police deserve the HERO tag.

Scientologists are wacky, and dangerous. A friend of mine, who hates them vehemently, was racked up on phony terrorism charges after stating in a blog: "--I hope someone launches a Tom Cruise missile at their headquarters---"

Now to be fair, he is a loudmouth and a smartass, but if that were against the law, every Farker in Farkdom would be in prison.

Combine that with the lack of a professional police force in this nation, and you've got real trouble. The victim of the crime is on the lam---and the perpetrators are running loose.

Fark requires a sense of humor.

Southpaw018 [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 07:56:45 PM
Oh, after reading the headline a few times, I have a translation:

The German police are now actively pursuing $cientology tutoring centers after $cientologists suddenly begin targeting the country's youth.

Clambaking is a reference to the truth behind the "religion" - see clambake.org.

mcmiller 2006-10-01 07:58:19 PM
"btw, any religion that charges you for spiritual counciling is not a religion. that's a business."

You mean like tithing? Dude, I couldn't agree withyou more.

You mean like tithing? Dude, I couldn't agree withyou more.

Tithing isn't required to attend a church, at least any church I've gone to. With Mormonism, that's different and the jury's out on their cult status.

With Scientology, you have to pay the big bucks to be a part of their group, i.e. it's a business not a religion.

olddinosaur 2006-10-01 08:02:53 PM
Go to google and punch in KEITH HENSON.

Then scroll down to read "Keith Henson News."

Trust an old fart for once, this is worth your time. Double the above if you think $cientology is just a harmless money scam--which it also is, but it is much much more.

Mr Sunshine 2006-10-01 08:03:27 PM
You don't know the history of Fark. I do.

TFunke do they provide the purple sheets and sneakers, or do I have to buy those seperately?

You are thinking of the Heavens Gate Cult.

Mugato How come there are no Scientologist farkers?

I believe there are a couple that occassionaly pop up on a Scientology thread, but nothing close to what Bevets does on a Christian-themed thread, or Tatsuma on an Israel-related thread.

And this is from the Constitution 2.0 thread, but I feel this is an appropriate place:

RandomExcess
Religion = Cult

But I'll argue:

Jim Jones Cult > Waco Cult > Heavens Gate Cult > Scientology > Religion

Discuss.

karlo 2006-10-01 08:06:34 PM
I have a sneaking suspicion most Scientologists never put 2 and 2 together before joining (and thus never do unless they make it to the top of the pyramid scheme, or they some how get out of the cult,) and they definitely hadn't heard about how Hubbard may have repeatedly stated before starting Scientology that religion was the best way to make money.

Please Note:

The German people want no part in any more mind-cults taking over their youth...it has happened twice before ending up in the ruin and humilliation of their country on both counts.

They will go to what appears to us on this side of the pond to extreme lengths to ensure it NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN!

I mean, really, who can blame them?

PerfectStorm 2006-10-01 08:10:37 PM
I could use some extra dough...maybe I'll start a "religion" too. Any superwealthy, actor-type farkers out there who can be my Tom Cruise?

Calamitus 2006-10-01 08:10:45 PM
wraithmare: With Mormonism, that's different and the jury's out on their cult status.

Not required, just like most other churches it's a voluntary donation. And it's also private, not like catholics passing a plate for everyone to see who pays and who doesn't. Oh, and it's not a cult either, jury came back on that one years ago.

/If ignorance is bliss, why isn't everyone happy?

Mugato [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 08:11:11 PM
I think the people who say they're scientologists are trolls, unless I missed something. And tithing is not the same as charging a set fee for enlightenment. I'm no fan of organized religion but there is a big difference between the major ones and cults like Scientology and Witnesses.

Annoyance 2006-10-01 08:14:27 PM
I'm sure glad god decided usury wasn't a sin, if we're going off topic.

Wow, people still think the LDS church is like that? DIAF, please.

Robo Beat 2006-10-01 08:17:30 PM
mcmiller: You mean like tithing? Dude, I couldn't agree withyou more.

I've never heard of a church that requires a tithe before you can attend mass.

wirewad 2006-10-01 08:18:44 PM
'Scientology is not a religion. It is a business and its aim is to gain power over individuals and try to brainwash them,' Beckstein added. 'We see it as the duty of the state to inform students and parents about the danger of these schools.'

mcmiller
You mean like tithing? Dude, I couldn't agree withyou more.

I have never known a christian church to force members into slavery or kick them out because they don't tithe.

karlo 2006-10-01 08:20:19 PM
To Mugato

Yeah, most major religions share certain base teachings (IE: some variation of the Golden Rule - "Do unto others..." which if it were taken seriously might actually make the world a better place, and it's something missing in Scientology give their litigation happy nature) and while religion needs some kind of fiscal or volunteer commitment pretty much no matter who you're dealing with, it's usually not mandatory, and it's certainly not the large and lock-step amounts that most cult-type groups demand. Most major religions outside of the hands of extremists who bend them around into being effectively being cults (IE: KKK or Al Quida) also are pretty tolerant of each other too, atleast on paper, where as the Scientologists and groups of their ilk can be and usually are very isolationist, and it's part their doctrine and dogma as well.

wraithmare 2006-10-01 08:38:39 PM
Klintor

Wow, people still think the LDS church is like that? DIAF, please.

Wow the Mormon's sure have gotten violent lately. DIAF? Harsh dude.

And yes, from stories I've read of ex-Mormons, there is a lot still in the Church that's less than happy.

MichB1 2006-10-01 08:44:05 PM
I heart evangelical atheists.

Same shiat, different dogma.

cazz 2006-10-01 08:48:30 PM
Yea...why is the United States lobbying FOR a 'religion' in Germany when they lobby against real religions in their own country????????????

XenuTheMagnificent 2006-10-01 08:54:47 PM
I find no humor in this at all.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2006-10-01 09:09:03 PM
cazz: Yea...why is the United States lobbying FOR a 'religion' in Germany when they lobby against real religions in their own country????????????

I guess you're referring to that pesky "separation of church and state" thing. That's sort of a by-product of our freedom of religion nonsense.

"I have never known a christian church to force members into slavery or kick them out because they don't tithe."

Fair enough. What I have seen has been more subtle than that.
