Too bad they still can't do anything about the shiat content. Why waste the money on a plasma tv to watch crap programming? Nothing on worth watching and certainly not worth a $3000 tv.

TV volume remains adjustable.

Screw that, I'm probably going with a projector system, if I can find a decent one.

Videogames. Hong Kong action movies. FireFly DVDs. Plenty of good uses for the big screen.... although with the lighter duty-cycle of occaisional usage of a non-TV watcher (unless you're a really avid videogamer) a DLP projector and a vinyl screen might do you better. I've got a big 72"ish setup using a (comparatively) cheap DLP projector I got off ebay. The bulb will only last 3000 hours before replacement, but I don't use it heavily enough to worry.

I gotta say, I know how that works. We just got a new 40" TV, and had to buy a new TV stand to hold it.

skwerl:

If you think you can do better, go pitch something to your local PBS station or join the local public access station while you can still get public access. Broadcast-quality video is dirt cheap these days.

TV^(-1)=(Couchx2)+1000 sq. ft?

Idiotic. Just put the damned thing on the wall and be done with it.

Why even worry about furniture? I got my 45" LCD wall mounted.

I'm sure that I'm just as entertained by my 25" TV (bought at a thrift store in 1996) as I could be by a new $3000 plasma screen. It gets the same shows and plays the same DVDs.

Doesn't that create a black hole of fat?

I miss my old (1980's) Sony Trinitron TV/Furniture

It weighed a million pounds, but you could get up and dance on that thing.

/the picture quality wasn't that great, but I want TV Furniture to make a comback

That article takes itself way too seriously.

I LOVE my TV. Farked if I could tell you the brand or model. Fairly certain it's a Toshiba. But it's one of the big wooden floor-mount TVs. It breaks my heart that it's slowly dying. The damn thing is older than I am. I love having the big wide top though, because I can put all of my peripherals on top instead of having to waste money on a new shelf for them. It plays all of my video games and DVDs just fine, and it cost me nothing but the gas to go pick it up. An old teacher of mine had gotten a new TV, and announced to the class that if anyone wanted it, it was free to whoever would pick it up. My hand was in the air before anyone else's.

Something people also tend to forget is viewing distance. Put a 72" screen in a 14'x18' living room and it's like being in the front row at the movies.
