vartian,

I like Coke Blak.

Nothing beats Mexican Coke, though. (Thai Coke is decent. British Coke is bland. East Coast Coke is better than Midwest Coke. I made a list once...)

Gonzales deep-fries Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.

Hid kids are adorable, too.

I recall reading about some cola manufacturer (might have been Coke) that uses high-fructose corn syrup in some markets and cane sugar in others. Apparently the choice of sweetener substantially affects the taste of the beverage.

Englebert Slaptyback:

Virtually all soft drinks in the U.S. use high-fructose corn syrup, Coke & Pepsi being the biggest culprits. It's a lot cheaper than cane sugar because the corn lobby welfare queens here have bribed congress to keep sugar tariffs high.

If you're lucky enough to live near the inner city, you can almost always buy bottles of Coca Cola with real sugar in the neighborhood Latin American grocery stores.

yes, a store by me has Coke from Mexico and the ingredients say "sugar" no corn syrup.

on a TV show they said it saves $0.10 a CASE using syrup, but he also said when you make as many cases as Coke & Pepsi it is a lot of money

That's one thing about the South that always confused the hell out of me.

Its DR.Pepper that uses cane sugar in certain markets, Primarly around Waco and Belton, TX. Stuff everyone else gets is made with high-fructose corn syrup. W pickup a few cases when we drive through ,there is a huge diffrence in taste more carmely and lighter on the pallete

I think he'd better start keeping his farked up thougths to himself.

BARF. There is enough sugar and caffeine in that to energize 10 kids a for month.

godiluvbeer 2006-09-05 04:13:43 PM
yes...it's true, many kids of this generation may very well die before their parents. those kids porkin' out at McD's are a perfect example. now...i'm not skinny by any means, but i've been relatively the same weight for years now.

i'm also trying to cut out high fructose corn syrup from my diet, but it's hard around here. it's in damn near everything. it's even in pickles! high fructose corn syrup in jarred pickles? it's ridiculous

bride_of_adam_cole 2006-09-05 04:14:09 PM
I live in the part of Texas where all the DR Pepper in town is the cane sugar kind.

Hey, we should all be supporting this noble effort.

For how long has the US languished behind other countries in the "on-a-stick" market? Just like with the automobile, Japan is kicking our butt. Yakitori stands dot the map, and every kid eats Pocky! In the US, kids might be lucky to get a bomb pop .. having to make do with moon pies and recycled plastic waste turned into 'fruit roll ups'. Maybe those red coconut zingers if their parents really hate them. Sure, it may taste like it, but there's no sticks in those!

With people .. nay, heroes, like the organizers and competitors here pushing the very limits of 'on-the-stick' technology to newer and better hights we show the WORLD that the US still has the inginuity and drive to stay at the top

Some day, the deep-fried on-a-stick cold war may be over and we'll all have every breaded, on-a-stick food we ever want.

But until then, the next time you're eating a deep-fried & breaded cheeseburger on a stick or just a humble twice-fried corndog, give a thought to those people who fight for your privledge to do so each and every day. Raise your chocolate-covered frozen banana pop on high and shout out your approval.

For every voice that stays silent, and every carmel apple left uneaten brings us one step closer to a world that only has room for dried squid pops and sawdust flavored overpriced 'biscuit' sticks.

... and I don't think any of us want to live in that world.

You're looking for kosher Coke (pop), which is also made with "real" sugar.

damn, i can't believe my beer battered fried lard stick covered in a layer of chocolate, followed by another layer of lard, covered with bacon, one more layer of chocolate, smothered in cheese, which is then covered with butter, and finally slathered with ranch dressing and topped with cream cheese didn't win. probably because 5 judges had heart attacks while eating it. pure coincidence, i say.

Man, I remember growing up in Richardson (just outside of Dallas) and getting a day off school to go the the State Fair (any farkers confirm they still do that). Big Tex, taffy, waffles, The Cowsils at the Mobile Pavillion (yes, I'm that old), Al Hirt doing a free show, the U of T game at the Cotton Bowl, the Budweiser Clydesdales, really cool stuff for an 8 year old. Nothing beats the Texas State Fair (or used to).

Englebert Slaptyback,

It's all about the cane sugar. Coke actually is trying to ban folks from buying Mexican Coke in the U.S. because they're fearful of people noticing the difference and demanding cane sugar over "high fructose corn syrup" (which is just nasty, if you ask me).

Cane sugar is more expensive, but really, really, really makes a hell of a difference (taste a Dr Pepper made in Waco, for another stellar taste sensation).

I'm a big cola buff.

nickyhopkins 2006-09-05 04:26:17 PM
doombot,

Korean Coke sucks---it tastes like water someone has been soaking their feet in. Hong Kong Coke is decent. I can't recall Coke from the other places I've been.

Nothing really trumps Mexican Coke. The last time I was out West, I bought a whole suitcase full to bring home with me.
