Son of a biatch, my sister in on vacation there right now.

comslave 2006-08-27 08:40:53 PM
So, vacationing in Turkey is pretty much a no go this year.

that1guy77 [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 08:41:47 PM
How much do you want to wage that they missed their targets entirely.

Ooopsie, somebody didn't read the "destructions"!

GeorgeCostanza 2006-08-27 08:41:49 PM
Oh so 10 real people were injured? I was wondering why this was news.

BKITU [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 08:42:09 PM
As God is my witness, I thought Turkeys didn't explode.

Who are The Britons?

vartian [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 08:44:04 PM
That whole "including 10 Britons" addendum is the very reason why people over there hate us. Twenty-two people died, and that is a tragedy. Period. The very idea that the fact that they were ten Britons among their numbers makes the event more important is disgusting.

Doctor Funkenstein [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 08:44:22 PM
At a glance, I read that as four separate breasts on Turkey's beaches injure 22.... That would have been much cooler. "Hey, dude, what happened to you?" "Aw, man, you wouldn't believe it...this giant tit just came out of farking nowhere and BAM."

Just FYI, this it is exceedingly likely that this isn't a religious thing, before those attacks come.

I've been to Marmaris. It's very western and wealthy, but it's still very down-to-earth. Quite a shame, because tourism is an enormous part of Turkey.

I remember when I was a little kid and saw a big map in the school library that said 'Turkey' on one of the countries.

I thought somebody was making some kind of joke, so, I looked for other countries named after different fowl.

22 People injured, not dead. Only one was seriously injured. Also, it is important to note that Britons were injured; it increases British interest in the article, which means that the News Media will get more interest and a stronger response to the event.

Join the EU, we really need more of this in Europe! Good luck with that...

While turkey has all sorts of bomb happy thugs we could blame...come on, it's going to be muslims, you know it. This is obviously retaliation for arresting the terrorists.

ITS THE TERRIRSTS!!! WE GOT HIT!!!!! TURN EM INTO A PARKING LOT!!!!!

On a lighter note, you should read an email from an english speaking person trying to figure out how to type an email on a Turkish keyboard, very entertaining.

Today is turning out to be batshiat crazy. First, a plane crashes in my city (Lexington). Now, a coworker's parents are vacationing in Turkey (not sure if it's near there, though). Today is not a good day to be a native lexingtonian.

Pxtl 2006-08-27 08:57:40 PM
Once again, I am reassured by the fact that most terrorists are pleasantly incompetent. Four seperate blasts at a crowded beach could do much more than injure 22 people if properly planned.

Thank God for small miracles.

You lie. If it were Halle Berry, Vanessa Williams, Roxanne Dawson, I'd care.

Those are just REALLY tan white people. Like Tiger Woods.

I love to travel, I've been all over the world (including Egypt at the start of the second war in Iraq). There are some places I'd rather not go at the moment... Turkey is sadly on that list right now.

There are plenty of countries to visit with beaches. Why people go to such places at this moment in time makes me wonder...

GeorgeCostanza: Oh so 10 real people were injured? I was wondering why this was news.

I love it, only the westerners matter. Strangely, I didn't really care about it until I realized 10 british were hurt, then I was more affected by it. And I didn't even think I didn't care about brown people.

/or was this all just caused by the 6 bowls

I see the usual "brown people" bullshiat has surfaced again. When one can't make an arguement either way on an issue, play the race card. Liberal whiteys have gotten good at this game.

I think you need to Wikipedia the definition of liberal. Liberals are the least likely people, demographically and politically speaking to make an issue of one's ethnicity/race. Furthermore, Turks _are_not_brown_people_.

"Turks _are_not_brown_people_."

What do you get when you cross a Turk, a brown person, and a black person?

I don't know, but it's different and I hate it.

Daedalus27 2006-08-27 09:08:46 PM
It is a European news service so of course it is going to focus on the casualties among the people they serve. You care about your own people above others because that is who matters to your audience. It is not lessening the magnitude of the attack, it is merely distributing information that may be relevant to their audience. If 22 are killed in Turkey, my default assumption is that it was 22 turkish individuals. Adding that it is 10 Britons clarifies who the attack involved and provides information, not a value judgment.

Screw the Turks and screw anyone who drops out of their NATO obligations. At least when the French dropped out of NATO they did so officially. It was actually a good move by De Gaulle as he knew if the Red Army moved, France would suddenlly be struck. NATO would have to counter, whether France is a treaty member or not. Win, win for France.

I am against all mutual protection pacts. Isn't that a cause of WW I. Ok, I will stop rambling, but I will say that I am sure Muslims had nothing to do with these bombings.

LineNoise [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 09:16:14 PM
On the whole "10 britons" thing....

its called catering towards your audience. Reuters is a british news service if I remember correctly. They market to primarily english speaking markets as well.

Its not a white people/brown people thing, its that their readers may be interested to know the guy down the street might have been there.

AnusMcgee 2006-08-27 09:16:49 PM
whoever says turks aren't brown is a liar.

they're obviously chocolate covered with some sort of horrible jam like substance in the middle.

It was also a deuchbaggy move, and stuff like that is why so many people rag on the french.

"ahhh, but if we are attacked you will be forced to help us regardless of if we help contribute to everyones defense...interesting....."
