You have big balls and my respect if you serve in the Canadian military. Years of left wing federal government neglect and grandstanding has left our military overstretched and underequipped.

I can't believe our soldiers do as much and as well as they do given all that crap.

Hey now, I thought this was about the CANADIAN military. I mean, I see the word Canadian in your post...but it sounds earily familiar.

you mean the same way the US is actively recruiting those that once would have been sent to the group W Bench? and those that took the Short bus to the recruiting station?

How about the fact that the US Army is now Considering opening recruiting stations in India and Mexico City, hoping to use the "instant citizenship for soldiers" law as recruiting tool?

Now doesn't that seem like a stellar idea:
You ever had a broken Computer? Can you Imagine that same level of Service in a combat situation

"Lima Charlie! this is Delta FOxtrot! we are under Heavy fire and need immediate Assistance"

"Hello my name is ...Frank...and I can help you with that, now what exactly seems to be the problem?"

"we are taking heavy fire from hostiles. I count at least three firing positons, they have small arms and RPGS"

"Okay. Have you tried Killing the Enemy?"

"We're pinned down, we can't get a clear shot, we need fire support immediately"

"okay . Are you Sure your Weapon is loaded? I'm going to give you the steps to ensure their are bullets in your gun. Ready?

1. Remove the magazine from the chamber

2. Count how many bullets are in the magazine-they are the long cylindrical objects

3. If the magazine is empty replace with a fully loaded one.

Can you do that for me and tell me what happens?"

"&^%&$#@%%$!"

"Sir there is no reason to use abusive language, I will terminate this call if it continues"

Meh, looks like they thought it through rather well. The reductions they have made to speed up the process don't look like they will really present anymore of a security concern than the system that is already in place.

my brother once worked for the conservative party as part of his co-op. He was doing something mind-numbing like tallying censuses or something. Anyways he had a security card, and had to pass through a bunch of metal detectors to get to where his workplace was (it was in the parliament buildings somewhere). When his co-op expired the just stamped his security card with VOID and gave it back to him. I can't remember why but a month later he went back to the parliament buildings, and using this security card, made it past all of the security in the damn building.
My point is, if anything, Canada needs to take more security measures, especially if a 19 year old guy can just waltz right into the damn parliament buildings.

It is well known in both countries that this conflict is being resolved with a simple drinking contest. I can out drink a Dane, I think.

What does Canada need much of a military for?

The size and capability of your military must be directly proportional to the number of countries/people you continually piss off.

For example, Israel's very existence pisses a lot of people off, so they need a big military.

Sweden leaves people alone, and so they don't have much of a military, beyond their pretty badass air force.

The U.S. doesn't know how to leave shiat alone, so we stir shiat up and piss people off. That's why we need a big military. Canada pretty much keeps to itself, except when we drag it into things. Canada is like the nerdy kid who is constantly guilty by association with the bullies he gets paid to do the homework for.

As a brat, (mil. kid) who's entire world was built on Seeing people come and go in the service, i can honestly say yeah.. standard have slipped a little in some places. I've known a kid who stabbed someone with a pencil in class cause he was made fun of for eating dry ramen.. he's in Reg forces. So is the guy who took way too much acid in HS.

/scary people with guns.

CheapFarker 2006-08-27 10:56:37 PM
Umm... Canada has a military? I thought they just had the nifty guys in the red coats and flat-brimmed cowboy hats. You know, Sergeant Whosis of the Mountmes, or somethin' like that.

GavinTheAlmighty 2006-08-27 10:58:50 PM
The Canadian military recruitment process is painfully slow. I missed out on two months of training because their thumbs were securely up their asses.

That said, it's not an issue of security, it's an issue of bureaucracy. Removing security checks, not such a bad idea. Cleaning house and making things more efficient, a much better idea.

Took them almost two full years to enroll me in the regular force. I served in the reserve force before that, took them a week to enroll me. Rediculous.

Incetardis 2006-08-27 11:26:22 PM
Two years!

Jesus, DukeOfChutney, I applied late March and after all the testing (paper and physical) was completed at the Bathurst office, it was about June 10th.

I left a plane for St Jean sur Richelieu a week later.

They enrolled me in the reserves fairly quickly. But the application was slow, and I had to run to various recruiting locations in different parts of the city for different aptitude tests and all that. It took me a little while to remember the address of my elementary school; I don't get asked that question very often. I'm used to the whole 'duhhh....canada has an army lol' remarks. I used to get pissed off, because I've met people who've done numerous peacekeeping tours all over the world, but you know, what can you do.

Farktastic 2006-08-28 01:00:03 AM
Took me 2 years and 3 enhanced reliability checks to enroll. Bloody stupid. I went to a military conference last year and a Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre officer was there explaining how to join the forces (a stupid topic to a room full of officers). After 15 minutes of verbal diarreha someone cut him off and asked him how long it takes them to process an application. When he said 30 days the entire room erupted in laughter.

CFRC. The most useless idiots in the Canadian Forces.

cynicalbastard 2006-08-28 08:11:42 AM
I was thinking about rejoining a few years ago. (My trade was offering an incentive bonus). I go through the procedures and finally, an officer who claims to have scanned my files calls me in for an interview. Almost the first question was "Do you know what's involved in this trade?"
"Have you checked my file?"
"Ummm, yes..."
"You do know I was doing it for 20 years?"
"ummmm"- turns red...
I had more time on the toilet than this ell tee had in uniform.
