Weather vanes, a lot of them anyway, are made of copper. I don't know about New England but in San Diego Recycled copper is fetching almost $3 a pound. TFA say's some of these vanes are a couple hundred pounds plus. No big mystery.

I saw an Antiques Roadshow one time where this really old weathervane was valued at $12,000.

It was only back in Spring that they were stealing Sponge Bob Square Pants off of Burger Kink roofs.

I know, but the typo is funnier, I think.

New England always did know which way the wind is blowing.
/ The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind

The value of those weathervanes can easily go into the thousands.

No mystery here.

Didn't RTFA

Our little town in Vermont got swept by them, people suddenly realize the next day or week that there's just a stub on their 1700-1800's era barn where their vane should be. This may have happened while the owners are sleeping just a few feet away! Think of the logistics...they had to manage everything in the dark, and on strange properties with dogs, or with farmers getting up really early or coming home late. These people are very crafty, and we believe it's one traveling group because there would be 5 neighbors in the area all hit at once.

The robbers are looking for those antique Morgan Horse weather vanes which are quite valuable I hear (In the thousands). It must be some kind of professional crew with skills in mountain climbing. Though I theorize they throw the rope over the barn one holds while the other climbs with a hacksaw.

It's not bizarre. The ones being stolen are very valuable.

Lemme see now. They locked up them radicals during the late 60's early 70's so they must be getting out of the federal prisons now.
Yep. The Weathermen are back on the streets.

Hell yah! Weather vane madness!!

simpsonfan 2006-08-28 05:31:29 PM
We have a rock. When you see it, it's sunny. If you can't, it cloudy. If it's wet, it's raining. If it's white, it's snowing. Or would be, if it ever snowed in Los Angeles.
