Just as long as it doesn't get to the 'witch's tit in a brass bra' level.

Sounds unlikely to me.

They said the same thing for us (NYC area) last winter and, with the exception of a 2 week period in February, it was incredibly mild and snow free.

is that above or below "cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey"?

Colder, certainly. But not nearly as cold as the cold, cold corpse of Lincoln.

That's nowhere near as cold as a brass toilet seat on the shady side on an ice berg.

Believe it will be an early, long, and cold winter.

The willows here are already starting to turn. And there are other signs.

How does what happen in Alaska relate to winter in the small states?

Because when it's cold here, the cold flows down into the U.S.

The good news is that the price of crude oil, heating oil, and natural gas will go up. I won't have to light my woodstove with $50's anymore, I can use $100's. More good news: because my area is moderated by the Pacific Ocean, I won't have more than a taste of truly cold weather. Maybe a week of -20F, at most.

Where's your Global Warming now, Gore?

I had to put my duvet on the bed and it isn't even September yet. Bleh.

Oh, and the freakin' stores all have Halloween stuff out for sale. Grrrr.

It's 60F outside right now, but I also noticed that the Fireweed is already going to seed.

Old-timers say when the Fireweed tops out, it's 6 weeks until winter. There's already Termination Dust on the peaks, so I'd better get serious about laying in some wood.

FriarReb98 [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 05:39:18 PM
It's already too cold. But look on the bright side: Four Days Till College FOOTBALL!!!!

94°

Ah! That's how you do that, then. :)

sarahthustra [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 05:59:25 PM
i can already feel it at night. this time last year, i was still getting up early and running my errands in the morning to beat the heat. this year, it's only august and i'm already in long sleeves when i go running.

i better go invest in a better snow shovel...

IlGreven 2006-08-27 07:33:00 PM
Al Gore haterz in 3...2...1...

Oh wait...totalsecurity already did...

I don't know...erratic temp shifts may be a key to the "global warming"phenomenon...It's just they'll have to change their theory...of course, the fundies will count that as a win, just like they did with phlogiston theory and spontaneous generation...

Chester the Snake 2006-08-27 07:34:32 PM
In the South, it's been high 90s/low 100s all summer. Still is. :(

This would really be bad if it weren't for good ol' global warming. Thank you, Al Gore!

Please.... Get Winter down here now! It has been over 100 degrees just about this whole month in San Antonio. It's been pretty miserable this Summer.

If its like every other winter, I'll be wearing shorts and a t-shirt on the beach on New Years day. Brrr...maybe it'll be a long sleeve t-shirt.

as long as there's a shiat load of snow from the Rockies-west, because I plan on doing alot of snowboarding this winter. Some around here would be nice too.

veale728 [TotalFark] 2006-08-27 07:52:47 PM
I only pay attention if they say it will snow in Gainesville.

/Go Gators!
//It got down to 19 F last Feb.
///BRRRRR!

implementor 2006-08-27 07:54:11 PM
I hope the hell so. It's been hotter than hell around here for over 3 months. It was in the 90's today. I'd love it if it got cold, and quick. It doesn't really get that cold anyway down here (GA), so, cooler is always better.

AnusMcgee 2006-08-27 07:57:20 PM
Bring it on mather nature, you dirty slut.

I've got enough wood chopped to keep my woodstove fired up for 2 winters.

So why don't you go and eat a sand sandwhich with a side of crude you dirty opec whores.

Didn't they say that last year? I didn't wear my winter jacket once last year. I'm used to the -40s of northern Ontario. Now that I'm in Toronto, people look at me like I'm some sort of freak when I'm not cursing the bitter -20 weather.

I sure hope it isn't as bad as the record breaking hurricane season this year. Boy am I glad I was warned about it.

He uses it to haul all of the dirt out of the hole. Um.
Then he feeds it wholesome grains.

Mule-thingy.

You global warming people are funny. It doesn't matter if the climate gets warmer or colder; you always blame global warming. You do know that the climate wasn't static before this century, right?

ekdikeo4 2006-08-27 08:20:05 PM
Was 85 degrees here last night, whereas three weeks ago, it was 70 at night. There's something really wrong with the weather.

Trees had started to turn in my backyard last week, but they have turned back to green now.

Space-Aged 2006-08-27 08:20:32 PM
Screw the almanac. All I know is there is a sea of acorns on the ground, and I was always told that a bumper crop of acorns = cold winter.

The acorns never lie!

ronaprhys 2006-08-27 08:28:17 PM
DAMMIT We're all gonna die.

And what's up with that lady in the brass bra. She looks about as unhappy as it gets...
