"What is Arabic for, "My bad"?

Uh, since they say it every time they fark something up, I'm gonna go with 'Death to America, Death to Isreal!'.

I don't believe him for two reasons:

1. He's the head of a murderous terror organization.

2. They won.

totalsecurity 2006-08-27 04:40:20 PM
So for 2 soldiers, Israel kills over 1,000 Lebanese and destroys their infrastructure.

Israel should pay for the rebuilding, and NOT with U.S. taxpayer dollars.

It isn't just for those 2 soldiers. If Israel had just allowed it, then kidnapping soldiers would have become a nice addition to their arsenal.

Donutmaker, you fail to realize Lebanon wants to eradicate Israel off the face of the planet, and acted upon it. I'd say that's good justification.

ceejayoz 2006-08-27 06:04:38 PM
Donutmaker: 1000 kidnapped Israeli soldiers over the course of, let's say, 10 years, versus the tens of thousands of Arabs sure to be killed over situations like this in that same length of time? Not quite a good justification.

As their government, the Israeli government has more responsibility to their own people than to those in neighbouring countries. The welfare of the Israeli people is the Israeli government's priority.

If the Arab nations around Israel don't want their people getting killed, they're going to have to start trying to rein in Hezbollah and similar groups and stop them from poking at Israel repeatedly.

What the hell did he think was going to happen?

A prisoner exchange, the same thing that has happened many times in the past when Israel has kidnapped Lebanese and Lebanon has kidnapped Israelis. That's how both sides have played the game in the past. Israel kidnaps Lebanese citizens, too, doncha know.

KernLead 2006-08-27 06:05:05 PM
I could have sworn the only strategy Hezbollah had for this was to get a lot Lebanese civilians killed so world public opinion would turn on Israel.

That's got to be the most hilarious twisted logic I can imagine. You're actually finding a way to mentally blame Hezbollah for Israel's brutal reprisals against Lebanon's civilians. You should change your farktag to Kool-Aid Man or something.

pol_troop 2006-08-27 06:08:59 PM

And when DEA agents were kidnapped and killed in Mexico by Mexican police, did the U.S. kill thousands of Mexicans and destroy the infrastructure of Mexico? No? Hmmm. That's a war that is still going on.

I could cite other examples, but my point is clear: Israel overreacted. There is no excuse for what they did. None.

If you believe for one second that Hezbollah had no idea what happened would happen, be sure to put out your Christmas stocking tonight so the easter bunny can leave you a quarter. If you're really good the Great Pumpkin might be your friend.

/don't bemoan civilian casualties when you deliberately fight amongst civilians

pol_troop 2006-08-27 06:16:46 PM
totalsecurity are you sympathetic with Hezballah? What is your stance on the issue. I'm not sure why you think Israel does not have the right to protect their existance.

Donutmaker: 1000 kidnapped Israeli soldiers over the course of, let's say, 10 years, versus the tens of thousands of Arabs sure to be killed over situations like this in that same length of time? Not quite a good justification.

That's something that can and will be debated for a long time. I'm not a huge fan of Israel, but I will point out that their response to the threat against their security was infinitely more reasoned than the US response typically has been.

If you believe for one second that Hezbollah had no idea what happened would happen

"Either you believe my bizarre, unsupported by evidence, not terribly logically sound opinion, or you are gullible".

Riiiight.

As previously stated, both sides have many times in the past, including very recently, kidnapped people from the other side and offered them back in prisoner exchanges. It was reasonable to believe that would have happened again. Israel's reaction was a surprise to the entire planet, that much is obvious simply from the tone of the news coverage. Nobody expected this kind of an overreaction on Israel's part to the kidnapping of two soldiers. That kind of thing, kidnapping and prisoner exchanges, has been pretty common place among both sides.

don't bemoan civilian casualties when you deliberately fight amongst civilians

I agree, Israel should stop doing that.

Because you hope to maintain a shred of credibility? You didn't ask him whether or not he felt Israel had a right to protect its existence. You claimed he doesn't think they do:

I'm not sure why you think Israel does not have the right to protect their existance.

Now, I'm asking you to provide evidence to support your claim that totalsecurity does not believe Israel has a right to protect their existance.

This was a U.S. sponsored proxy war between the West and Iran, and once again because of our complete lack of understanding of the politics in the region we got our asses handed to us on a plate. 0-2. U.S. and Israel, forever linked at the hip.
