KISS Army prepares for invasion.

Being one of the few military organizations not yet tapped for The War Against Terror (TWAT), the others being the Salvation Army and the elite reconnaissance teams of the Girl and Boy Scouts, the KISS Army is gearing up to be shipped out to serve their nation in this great time of need. In an announcement earlier this week, President Bush called on the Soldiers of Rock to prepare to bring what he called Rock and Roll to the Muslim world.

"It is an honor to be called," said KISS Army Cpt. William Rutherford from the training camp in Los Angeles. "I mean, God gave Rock and Roll to us, man. He did not want it to be kept and horded among the elite members of the KISS Army. He meant for us to be missionaries and to bring Rock and Roll to the rest of the world. To spread the message. And only the KISS Army can do that. We are prepared to fight for the greater good no matter what the stakes."

At the KISS Army training camp outside Los Angeles members of the 42nd Strutter and 353rd Destroyer divisions have gathered with their equipment to begin what will be an intensive week of acclimation to the Middle Eastern world's music and culture. The divisions have been issued their Les Pauls and Flying Vs, the make up has been applied, and the Marshall's are locked and loaded. They understand the ramifications if they should fail in their task. "This is not something that we can take lightly," Cpt. Rutherford says. "This is a monumental undertaking. The KISS Army will be acting as ambassadors to the rest of the world. We can't go in guns blazing, we have to ease into the country; we have to let them know that we are not creatures of the night, that this is not some psycho circus that is invading their country. We are going to change their world, forever."

Nineteen year-old Cpl. Jason Ramirez, a new recruit to the Army, stated, "Yeah, I expect it to be hotter than hell there. It is a desert, right?" Cpl. Ramirez is painted like the Cat, Peter Criss, as is the rest of the 353rd Destroyer division. He continues, voicing his reservations about potential combat in the theatre. "I am kind of scared. I mean, I've only seen war on television." He fingers the frets on his issue Les Paul, a G chord burps from the Marshall behind him. "I am nervous about going into combat. I mean, there is only so much training that they can give us here. I guess we will know for sure once we are in country. But I am dedicated to my country, and my Army. I am prepared to do what is asked of me for the greater good."

The strike teams will no doubt have the best training that the Army can provide, but in an effort to combat what can only be described as 'practical innocence' the Army is providing chord books and fingering charts to the soldiers as part of their standard load-out. "The chord books will only help them once in country," Cpt. Rutherford explains. "These boys have had the best training that we can provide in the amount of time that we have. Some things have had to be rushed, diatonic structures for instance, so we are providing these to ensure their training stays with them, and keeps them alive in country. The last thing we want for our boys is for any of their mothers to have to make the ultimate sacrifice. We don't want any one of them to have to go to the great mosh-pit in the sky. We want them all coming home, slightly stoned and safe."

"It is the greatest thing that could have happened to me," says Pvt. Stanley Simmons of the 42nd Strutter. "I was lucky enough to have been an Army brat, both of my parents were serving members in the 187th Love Gun during the Carter administration. I have been a member of the Army for as long as I can remember and it is all that I have wanted to do. I plan to make this a career." Pvt. Simmons stands proudly in his Spaceman, or Ace Frehley, makeup with his standard Flying V. The wide silver epaulets on his uniform are a bit large for his frame, which gives him a slightly cartoonish appearance, but he wears it with pride. "When I get back, I'm going to ask my girlfriend, Beth, to marry me. She is so proud of me. Beth, if you read this, I want you to know that I was made for loving you."


The Joint Chiefs of the KISS Army, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were unavailable for comment although it is rumored that they will be in country overseeing the greater activities of the Army as a whole.
