I think Colbert should exempt pandas from the threat index. After all they are vegetarians.

That just proves that they're liberal merciless assassins.

You know it is just the pandas trying to steal the thunder of the elephants.

/It is true. Look it up.

Pandas. Now there's some good eatin'!

They are bears, and therefore, demand an immediate placing at the top of the Threat list.

Crazy_Horse_Invincible 2006-08-13 11:59:51 PM
Pandas aren't bears at all. They are giant raccoons.

/The more you know...

Just because they're cute doesn't make them any less deadly. I went to the zoo a few days ago. When we passed the bears, I was not afraid to point right at them and tell them "Hey! You're on notice!"

/no, I seriously did that
//why hasn't Colbert just gone ahead and made them 'Dead To Him'?

Ok, these headlines are greenlit because of the cliche, but really, who cares? Ugly ass.. (yawn)

yotta 2006-08-14 12:03:07 AM
They aren't ugly-ass unless there are pictures to prove it!
This story is really a [Followup] to an earlier story.

speaking of Colbert, did anyone else see him on 60 minutes tonight? Actually got a chance to see him out of his persona, and get an idea of what he is like off-camera.

I think Pandas are one of the only species that guys can go "Aww... it's so cute." and get away with it..

The number of "ugly-ass" headlines has tripled in recent years.

Pandas are carnivores -- they just hide the evidence, in fact some of know it was actually Pandas that killed Hoffa.

The article seems to say that four, not eight, baby pandas were born last week, not this week. Not trying to be a smart ass; just supporting RTFA. Although so many pandas have been born in captivity over there of late that I'm starting to wonder if the PRC government is making some of it up. They did have a picture of like 16 baby pandas that they released to the press, though, and I never heard 'shenanigans'.

Giant pandas are not vegetarians . . . depending on your definition. Like a great many 'vegetarian' mammals, they don't regularly make it part of their diet but they'll eat meat when they get the chance.

In fact, the easiest way to catch a giant panda is to make a cage trap (like a giant version of a common-in-North-America squirrel trap) and bait it with a piece of still-sizzling cooked meat. Pandas will smell the meat from miles away and come walk straight into the cage.

You can put away the myth of pandas only being able to digest bamboo, too. They're very adapted to eating it in the wild, but they'll happily eat Quaker oatmeal if that's what you give them. Koalas are fussier.

Giant pandas aren't terribly aggressive, in case you were wondering, but they have serious teeth and consequential claws, and they're bigger and stronger than people tend to think. Should you ever get the chance to piss off an adult, don't.

RandomAxe [TotalFark] 2006-08-14 02:20:14 AM
Never mind about that panda count. I deciphered and recalculated, and it does say eight pandas last week and into this week. As usual, the FA in that RTFA was written and edited by FAs.

SustainedHavoc 2006-08-14 03:30:55 AM

The article fails to mention where pandas score on the calories/cholesterol scale.

I've got room in the smoker for a couple of Pandahams and some Pacon.

I say we start the force feeding now and send Chicago some Panda cub Foi Gras in exactly 3 months.

Since there are no pictures, just imagine eight pink penises.

Yes, but do THESE baby pandas rock at Tekken?

These are COMMUNIST pandas. They are a product of the liberal media.

Crazy_Horse_Invincible: Pandas aren't bears at all. They are giant raccoons.

Red pandas are related to racoons, giant pandas are bears. Red pandas and giant pandas aren't closely related but share many physiological traits due to convergent evolution.

Woo! Panda! I used to love schooling Tekken newbs at the arcade by using Panda. Or Kuma, who apparently had a crush on Panda.

I'm a guy, and I think baby pandas are cute enough that next year for our honeymoon my fiancee and I are going to the Wolong Panda Reserve to feed 'em.

We are still setting up the trip, but a family member who travels to China several times a year has highly recommended
chinesecultureclub.org (pops) to me. We're probably using them.

Best of luck, and if you see a 6'3" white guy with a pretty Japanese wife when you're there, say hi to us.
