eddyatworkGot a CD burner? Capture them for her. Total Recorder is wicked cheap and works like a charm.

Your grandmother would flip and you will be the genius.

Submitter here.. SpinStopper, I was at a radio conference in Dallas last Fall, and was thinking, "Man, this guy sounds like the guy who did Chickenman."

Lo & behold, it was indeed Dick Orkin. Pretty entertaining couple of days,

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2006-08-13 05:38:35 PM
This is actually a very good historical record.

And the beginning of the Milton Berle show has a hilarious cigarette commercial.

SpinStopper [TotalFark] 2006-08-13 06:10:07 PM
Damn vicejay! You actually met Dick Orkin?!? That is so cool!

I was introduced to Chickenman in 1977. I was digging through some discarded promotional albums at the radio station where I was a DJ, and found an album of new and old tracks promoting the comeback of Chickenman. I, uh, borrowed it... and laughed my ass off. I love Chickenman ;)

Heroic Poser 2006-08-13 06:10:29 PM
I'm going on a trip next week and these are perfect when you can't get radio stations.

Yeah.. At lunch on the 2nd day of the conference, he was in line behind me at lunch, & I got to talk to him for a few minutes. Simply amazing.

Here's his production company's website.. Don't think there's any Chicken Man audio there, but it does have audio
of a lot of the great radio spots they've done:

Definately a kickass link (although I'm a little disappointed they didn't seem to have Well's 'War of the Worlds'), however real player makes even a tearduct-less creature cry.

DMCA attack in... 3... 2...

Pribar [TotalFark] 2006-08-13 09:19:52 PM
As far as the DMCA thing I believe the copyright on radio/TV shows is 25 years, unless congress extended it, so these should be in the public domain.

Well done, submitter. Many thanks.

Gordon Bennett 2006-08-13 09:23:38 PM
They actually have what appears to be a complete set of Hancock's Half Hour! Fantastic. I've only ever heard a few of them, but they're brilliantly funny.

Listen to the episode "The Rail Strike." It's charming and utterly perfect.

jdmack 2006-08-13 09:23:53 PM

How can you record all these old programs in Real Player?

Oh how I love Jack Benny. Oh and Bing! Thanks you so much submitter!!

GoSurfing [TotalFark] 2006-08-13 09:25:02 PM
This is so awesome. Wow, just, awesome. Greatest submitter of all time. You are god for a day.

Starblind 2006-08-13 09:25:07 PM
I'm certainly glad to see massive amounts of Jack Benny (best comedian of all time IMHO).

I also recommend "It Pays to Be Ignorant", which the site has 17 episodes of. It's sort of a fake game show, and the humour stands up remarkably well today.

DrMemory 2006-08-13 09:26:29 PM
Great find submitter.

xlsport 2006-08-13 09:29:59 PM
As Vicejay said before, I've been listening to downloads from Radiolovers.com for ages. When I DJ'ed at a local AM station for a while I used these shows regularly when we had technical issues with the satellite or live feeds. I got hooked on the old time radio when I lived in SoCal and was able to tune into KNX 1070. Another of the very few things I miss now that I'm in NC, but you wouldn't like it here so don't bother coming out here...

Pribar [TotalFark] 2006-08-13 09:30:40 PM
Copyright X2, here is a general info site on copyright for radio, it appears this site is in the clear.

Thank you submitter!
