Drag her into the White House kitchen, set her up with a rack of cucumbers and tomatoes. Problem solved and everybody wins.

Glad I missed that. I was in front of the White House with my wife and children around 11AM this morning. Only thing I saw were a lot of annoying tourists (including me).

/not at the airpor, but a hotel with hi-speed internet

Unfuckwithable 2006-08-13 04:59:53 PM
To that, Saleh said, "What are you going to do -- shoot me?"

The witnesses said the officer repeated his command, then took Saleh into custody when she wouldn't comply.

Did anybody else get the impression they just Yada-yada'd over the best part?

unclefester325 2006-08-13 05:00:06 PM

I'm pretty sure they have a quota somewhere in the Secret Service office. This was just fate filling her requirement for machete wielding psycho.

A 13-inch machete? I'm with albo. Kind of pathetic.

jumbotron 2006-08-13 05:01:30 PM

What the officer should have said....Why yes, if you don't drop that blade, I'll go Indiana Jones on you.

The witnesses said passersby then alerted Secret Service officers, one of whom approached the woman and told her to "Drop the blade."

To that, Saleh said, "What are you going to do -- shoot me?"

Um... yes. Yes, they will.

I was thinking the same thing, came in to post it, in fact.

SchlingFo 2006-08-13 05:04:52 PM
castufari,

If you're gonna make threats, MAKE GOOD ON THEM! Jeez.

To be fair, she didn't threaten anyone.

If she didn't even do enough wrong to be charged with brandishing or assault, then I'd say she should be let go with a warning.

I also do not believe knives should be illegal to carry.

SchlingFo there are offenses worthy of brushing off with warnings...and there is sharpening your machete on the sidewalk outside of the white house...

Teucer,

SchlingFo there are offenses worthy of brushing off with warnings...and there is sharpening your machete on the sidewalk outside of the white house...

She's a nutjob, yeah. There are lots of nutjobs in this world.

Houston has a guy who pulls around a big-ass shopping cart while violently screaming and cussing at persons unknown.

I steer clear of him, but I don't think he should be arrested.

She didn't threaten anyone, which is reflected in the charges against her.

I don't feel that it should be illegal to carry a knife.

If a person's not threatening anyone, but is just creeping people out or being a nuisance, give them a warning and send them on their way.

simian04 2006-08-13 05:11:02 PM
I would have shot her. Twice. In the head. Then it would be real news. And another moron would be dead.

It's moran, moran. And how would you have been dead from the scenario you just gave?

How long until the Dubya-ment outlaws machetes? Or requires machete owners to register their "weapons".

agree, but there are places where you still shouldn't take any chances and security must be paramount to the point of being paranoid. such as around the white house.

dgarg 2006-08-13 05:15:55 PM

Whats wrong with sharpening a machete on the sidewalk outside the whitehouse? I know I feel safer carrying a machete on the mall since the park police budget got hacked.

giantpiraterobot 2006-08-13 05:20:27 PM
sharpening your machete on the sidewalk can be seen as threatening, Schling. similar to a person who hasa legal carry permit who decides to check and prepare their gun in the same location. Often body language says much more than words. Think even of the threats an unarmed man can give if he chooses, merely with the tone of his voice and physical behavior.

2wolves 2006-08-13 05:21:16 PM
It is illegal to even possess any weapons in DC, such as any swords or knives (ove 4") or stun-guns. Not even fake ones, and ESPECIALLY not within 100 yards of any Federal building of any sort. Yes, this also means props and toys. Unless you belong to one of the many, many L.E.O's or are in the military.

As someone with a wall full of steel I looked into it.
