Communist leaders are said to be frustrated that so many cartoons are foreign-made, especially after efforts to build up Chinese animation studios.

I wonder why? Maybe because writers would be shot if they lampooned Chinese society the way the Simpsons do. I can't imagine a Chinese equivalent of the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, etc. resulting in anything less than a blindfold and cigarette.
