The EU solved the stem-cell problem? Their legislation makes less sense than ours, and I didn't think that was possible...

If you don't know what vodka is, just give me the money to go to the liquor store instead.

I don't think so. That there is malt liquor.

One thing I love Texas for is that their labeling laws say that wine coolers and other "malt beverages" have to be labeled as "flavored beer".

Of course there are also several things I hate about Texas....

"Smirnoff Ice vodka drink?

In the US, that's true -- those drinks are fermented malt that is then filtered to remove any trace of flavour or colour, and then the desired colour & flavour is added. In other countries, though, the laws are different and it's allowable to mix water & ethanol to create the neutral base.

It also has properties as a solvent. For example, it can be used to remove panties.

Both.

Ultimat is the best tasting vodka I've ever had. Unfortunately, it's rather expensive, so I only buy it for my birthday and special occasions. (I don't know if the flavored versions are any good, though -- I don't care for flavored vodka at all.)

My favorite vodkas are homemade infusions, and so long as you are using something above Smirnoff it doesn't really matter.

I prefer to drink my vodka straight and frozen. I love to sip that icy syrupy subtly sweet alcohol, and feel it caress my tongue with icy goodness all the way down as it warms. There's something about that feeling that is like no other.

In a way, it makes sense "defining" what vodka is. But they're making an awful fuss about it. Why can't they have different varieties like there is wine?

Finlandia is good.

Ah, Europeans...always arguing about the purity of their booze (beats religious wars anyday).

I remember hearing about something called the "real ale" law in Britian about 20 years ago, and the ominous-sounding "German purity laws" that are centuries old. I know that all of the countries involved in this vodka argument despise each other, but I can't see getting your panties in a bunch over something made from potatoes. Potatoes! Cheapest starch known to man.

/FTR, I prefer Stoli's

That's one of the only downsides to living in Ontario. The cheapest you can get vodka is about $12 for a 375 ml bottle.

I worked-out the math once, by comparing several products, and it seems there's a minimum price per actual volume of alcohol content on all beverages. Can't get plastered for $5 in Ontario... (Unless you're a cheap drunk.)

But as far as I know, the LCBO goes out of their way NOT to stock cheap stuff.
