Nothing of particular interest to contribute.
Bodog odds (pops)

I hope italy and portugal go down, because they are led by frikkin divers (totti and ronaldo)

Another World Cup thread going green in the middle of the first half instead of before :-/

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2006-07-04 12:11:29 PM
This would be a much more interesting discussion if it were Germany v. Poland or Germany v. Israel.

I_Can't_Believe_it's_not_Boutros: Prediction: the trains will run on time.

In Italy? Not likely!
In Germany? Of course!

So the train-test says I should support Germany. I'll try it for a night.

BoneStorm 2006-07-04 12:12:58 PM
Prediction? Oh my, those stubborn grass staing will never come out!

www.gallerybrown.com

Oh yeah, and Germany will trounce Italy. Hard.

Say what? The game starts in just under 3 hours. That seems about right for a greenlight.

Sidi 2006-07-04 12:14:09 PM
Germany v. Poland

That was a good match. I'm sure it was a tough loss for Poland to take, but Germany outplayed them.

The game will be over by then, for all intents and purposes.

Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Allllles!

/Just got back from there, and there were many many many happy drunken Germans poncing around in Germany jesrseys.
//I hope they crush the Italians, hard.

Just thinking back of the last threads when I wasn't yet sponsored again
So I predict a close game and a flood of "why isn't there an official thread yet" posts in some random thread since the thread goes green half an hour after the kick-off.

On average? If I put my feet in the freezer and my head on the hot kitchen stove, I should be comfortable with the temperature on average "

i always hope that people that go there learn that maybe singing the first line of the first stanza is offensive to germans and stop doing that. maybe not, tho.

Nerdlinger 2006-07-04 12:24:53 PM
I got Germany 2-1. Too bad they lost Frings for the match or I'd say 2-0.

kronicfeld: I think you're missing the joke underlying my comment.

I got the joke, but he's right. That was one of the best matches of the Cup.
And don't fret, we've still got a shot at Germany v. France in the finals.

If it makes any difference, it was Germans singing it. It was also the anthem they played before the matches. The Voice of Doom, did they re-write the words to the anthem at some point?

Unfortunatately, the jokes for that match would be even more stale than the rest of the WWII jokes.

Why are the boulevards in France so wide and lined with trees?

So the Germans can march in the shade.

today, only the third stanza is sung (starting with einigkeit und recht und freheit...).
the first and second are tied to the third reich. deutschland, deutschland ueber alles is the start of the first stanza.

Interesting!
Then we may have actually seen some hooligans in the Berlin fan-fest. They were stumbling drunk, and wearing army boots.

zn0k 2006-07-04 12:42:42 PM
that woulda been hooligans, then :o) usually, cops will get involved for that, if they see it.
at least in the area i grew up in.

did you have a good time? did you get to see any of the games in a stadium?

/6500 miles away from it all, and some games are less than 10 miles from my parents house

It was fantastic, and we got to see the Iran/Angola game in Leipzig. I had no idea there were so many Iranians in Germany.

I'm definitely going back, if only to buy a lifetime supply of German mustard. This trip made me aware of how bad US mustard sucks.

/The autobahn rules, but I'm going to have to relearn how to drive slow.

Try getting good sausages in the middle of Illinois. I want to go over just to kidnap a butcher.

glad to hear! i'm pining away for a game. oh well, nothing to be done about it.

The only way I will be a happy girl is if there is a Germany v. France final. Portugal is my least favorite team ever. I've been playing for 16 years and they are the worst sportsmen that I have ever seen.

skinink 2006-07-04 01:38:51 PM

It doesn't matter who wins this match, because whoever wins will not be able to score on France due, to their "Maginot Line" defense !

But in support of Germany, I will declare that, "I am a jelly doughnut !"

Now that Holland is out, i will root for my fellow cold-blooded (if somewhat more militaristic) Northern Europeans. But i will hold my nose doing so.

/Just don't want to see the Azurri Diving Divas or the Portugeuse Thespian Society winning the cup.

I want Italy to win, because if France goes to finals, they would be easier to beat.

jameslegroove 2006-07-04 01:41:37 PM
I have to say, the best ending to this World Cup would be a French victory against Germany with Zidane kicking ass like he did against Brazil. Way to retire, Zizou!

pay for it.

For some reason my world cup fever has fallen - maybe it's because there are no back to back games anymore.

Would agree with the early general sense of this thread that the Portuguese and Italian swim teams need to LOSE.

I specifically care about this just enough to allow me to post, helpfully letting you know that I do not, in fact, care about this.

Box score:

Italy 2 Germany 0

Afterwards the fair weather Germany fans will climb off of the bandwagon and get drunk on the worlds best beer: Peroni.
