It's nice to see the unemployed doing something productive.

Where do I sign?

I was so eager to disagree with it at first--but I just can't.

Centre? Since when did the United States start speaking Canadian?

One of the signers is a rapper from The Coup, whose album cover still shows up in every Google Image Search I do.

About time some people started speaking up about the Bush administrations rampant idiocy after 9/11.

Too bad they will all become disappeared by Asscroft.

HAHAHAHAHA. that was great

Postroad 2002-06-16 02:14:52 PM
Tough call. I am convinced on the one hand that there is a real threat by real people trying to cause chaos in the western world nations; I am also suspicious of a war, by America that is from the beginning described as very very long (no notion of how we teel we have won), and this used as reason to do all sorts of things that strike many of us as a major loss of the very things we want to defend against the enemy.
And thus we will be confronted endlesslfy by the Ben Franklin adage: "Those who would give up freedom for security deserve neither. " Ok. Sound. But how do I secure myself, Mr. Ben?

because im sure we'll get a lot of it in this flamewar...

"people who use quotes from a famous dead guy to make a point are retarded douche-bags who's argument doesnt stand up against current evidence and circumstances. But hey, it allows the mediocre to feel intelligent"--me.

feel free to quote that

How dare they exercise their consciences; don't they realize a war is going on?

Good thing he told us he was distinguished! I wonder if he will be able to find his skull in his gluteus maximus?

Sad part is, Bush is going to have Ashcroft's SS round up all of these people and have them gassed/cooked in ovens for betraying the 'homeland.'

So... it's published in a UK paper, and a terribly leftist one at that. Not really suprising, when Ed Asner and Noam Chomsky are on it.

It really impressed me that it's signed by "Boots Riley, hip hop artist, The Coup". There's heavyweight intellectual backing.

Fine for them. They can say this isn't in their name, and believe that their petition will do something. When I see such a petition signed by the AGGRESSORS who attacked us and continue to try to kill us, I'll listen. Until then, I say they're fools for thinking that words will work against an enemy that doesn't mind dying as long as they can kill as many of us as possible.

You don't negotiate with irrationality; you can't reason with hatred; and you don't have to give a moral justification for removing a cancer from your body; the reason is self-evident.

I'm sorry that these deluded people are being safeguarded by the same people they're criticizing. (Remember how the Hollywood Elite had to move the big awards show post-September 11 because they couldn't get the military protection they wanted? They support the military when it's directily saving their butts.)
They have a right to say what they do -- I have a right to point out the hypocrisy and stupidity of it.

But if we are really nice and not shoot at the bad men, maybe they will be nice and forget their vow to kill us even at the expense of their own lives. They just need a hug!

Oh wait. That doesn't make any Farkin sense.
Kill 'em all!(The terrorists, not the dumbasses on that list)

Sorry, guys. Should have considered the flamewar this would create before sumbitting it...

Why? It's a thought-proviking subject. And, if you don't look too deeply, you might miss the questions that go unanswered in this petition.

I didn't see a single idea from them on how to stop thousands more Americans (and others) from being killed by fanatics. I'm willing to hear how they intend to do that.

Anyone? Bueller?

Disclaimer:
This will doubtlessly be taken as some kind of criticism of Americans, though none was intended. Flame away if you feel it necessary.

Time for roll call:

Who here thinks that the people that signed the list are idiots or to simplify it for the slower readers, who has a brain?

Raygun007 2002-06-16 02:29:27 PM
Boxcar- You should change it to every time you vote Republican, God kills a terrorist!

Who here thinks that the people that signed the list are idiots

Not idiots -- the worst kind of "idealists". They take their own views, project them onto others, and claim they're doing the right thing, when their ideas flat DON'T WORK. (Nonviolence in the face of those who will stop at nothing to kill you is called "suicide" -- don't presume to commit that for me, thanks.)

or to simplify it for the slower readers, who has a brain?

Ever played Give me the BRAIN! by Cheapass games? It's a lot of fun.

I say that they should have to deliver that nice little proclamation in person to Osama. I'm sure he'd be real happy to talk to them. Or is it kill them and torture them. I get those two confused.

i agree... the people who signed it seem to be psycho crazy people. Boots riley is a socialist. isnt there like, only 4 people on the planet who still believe in socialism?

'Boots Riley, hip hop artist, The Coup'

Oh yeah, the sensitive Boots Riley, who also had an album cover showing him blowing up a building.

Boots, should I do as you say but not as you do?

Well at least they are making it easy for us to keep tabs on the schmucks of the U.S. by making us this handy little list!

As long as Ed Asner, Casey Kasem, and Mos Def are involved, I'm all for it.

actually, if memory serves me correctly, it was the world trade center he was blowing up, not just any building.

Raygun007 2002-06-16 02:41:13 PM
Speaking of Casey Kasem, does anyone have a link to the famous "Death Dedication?"

I'll forgive him for being on this list simply because he has a hot daughter.

TheUser 2002-06-16 02:41:49 PM
Has anyone addressed the utter futility of fighting a war against a methodology (as opposed to a ideology)? You can't fight a war on terrorism because the ideas that drove people to that terrorism will still exist and will manifest themselves in other ways. You need to get to the heart of the matter...

...and nuke the whole area.

::ducks::

BigJake 2002-06-16 02:43:10 PM
Wow, you kill kittens for voting Republican too? At the rate I'm going, the entire kitten population of America, if not the world, is at risk...

Raygun007 2002-06-16 02:43:20 PM
You know how we can solve a lof the world's problems? Take over Kashmir, and give it to the Palestinians. In one fell swoop, two millenium old conflicts would be over!!!

Funny, the signature list closely matches a list of people who are listed in my will... Yeah, in the section "My ashes are to be thrown into the faces of these people."

I recall it being a generic building from when it was discovered in September. But, I could be wrong.

Why didn't this headline tell the truth? :)

I sent this in and referred to them as 'dumbass leftists'. Hehe..

I mean, what the fark does a celebrity really know about politics? they're one of the more elite snobbish classes of people, which makes it funny when they try attacking the establishment.

Yakkette 2002-06-16 02:49:29 PM
Nice sentiment, but a little late. The really brave people were saying this immediately AFTER 9/11, not waiting 9 or so months for all the heated emotions to cool down. If they said this back then, they would've been branded as traitors. Saying it now just gets you dismissed as a whiney liberal.

And dude, couldn't they get anyone more important than a guy most famous for providing the voice of a stoner in a crappy cartoon and a professor from CSU Hayward? I mean, we're not talking Stanford, we're talking CSU HAYWARD. Not exactly a paragon of acadameia.
