Homer Simpson from "The Simpsons"

Sure, he's funny, but Homer's gotta be one of the worst TV dads of them all. A bad influence in every way, you suspect he'd trade his entire family for beer if he could. But then again, who wouldn't?

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Homer is a great father. He has proved over and over that he loves his family above all else. Example: He traded Duff blimp ride to help his daughter's self esteem, he turned down multiple opportunities for extramaritial affairs, he is the only one to believe his daughter when she claims Jebediah is a fraud and risks his 'job' to prove it, Homer and Marge are one of the few married couples on television that seem to enjoy their sex life, a quote: "Homer: A girl! Oh, Marge, we have a wonderful baby girl. Not just a girl -- the most beautiful baby girl in the whole world.", Homer keeps his pictures of Maggie at work, etc...

He's not perfect, but he is a pretty good father. In the end, he always does the right thing.

They go from all of these classic "dads" to Edward Stratton III. Give me a break.

Felix Unger...Could you imagine him as your dad?

A Father's Day Tribute to the pops of television history?
16 dads????? what?
and a guy from ER? what the hell?
what about Bill Cosby, not that i want him for a dad, but come on, he was a father to all those kids that obviously weren't his? what about John Goodman on Roseanne?
not a very good look at television history

mezmerize 2002-06-16 03:42:06 PM
Yeah, they forgot Mr. Foreman (Red) from That 70's Show. That guy's my hero.

feffer 2002-06-16 03:43:36 PM
Charles Ingalls. Not John. Charles.

I'm a dork.

mike8536 2002-06-16 03:46:28 PM
Red is great...can't believe i forgot him...i think he should be in the history books even thought the show hasn't been on that long

Proud2B_American 2002-06-16 03:53:19 PM
A few points here, who the fark was 'Clint' from Andy Griffith, I remember that show well, and don't have a clue as to who Clint was.
Next, I agree with JerseyTim Homer may seem like a screw-up and even be a bit dim witted, but he was a good Dad, remember the episode where he was trying to get his chauffers license, and Marges sisters were smoking, when Homer took the fall for them, he said to Marge, "...I did it for you, I'd kill for you...please ask me to kill for you..." Now that's loyalty...
And YesFeffer is right...it was Charles.Otherwise...this was a pretty cool site

One last thing, from Ward Clever's wife June..."Ward...please don't be too hard on the beaver..."

Proud2b,

I think it was a joke about how much of a weirdo Ron Howard's real-life brother Clint Howard is.

Raymong 2002-06-16 04:02:08 PM
'son, say that again, and you will be wearing your ass as a hat'

Red Foreman is, if not the best /parent/, the funniest TV dad ever

TLBreer Oh...what an idiot I feel like...chalk this up to bronchitis, little sleep and narcotic cough medicine. Thanks though.
I am off to change my computer login to ID ten T (replace the ten with the number 10) This is a favorite passowrd reset choice we give to clients at the helpdesk I work on... hahahaha

Thanks again though!

i agree, homer was a great dad, and husband. he's risked his life, job, and happiness countless times to help his family. he loves all of them, and tries to do what's best, but his mental state doesn't allow it. he's the forrest gump of TV dads

Gee folks, sorry I didn't include every single TV father ever created. Next time I'll leave nobody out. :)

How can you consider Sheriff Andy Taylor to be great. He freakin' sold his kid to the Cunninghams.

PokeyMon 2002-06-16 05:40:35 PM
Whatever happened to the gay boys with "Pa" on Bonanza....

"Unlike most TV dads of the era, Ward would get pissed from time to time and look as if he wanted to slap the $#!+ out of The Beav."

This cracked me up.

Abox 2002-06-16 11:18:25 PM
How about John Redcorn. He somehow managed to wrangle 12 acres of land out of the government and bequeath them to his son, even though his son doesn't even know he's his dad.

Powdered_Toast_Man 2002-06-17 01:59:03 AM
Agreed on the Homer Simpson thing. That's one point the writers and producers have always tried to underline -- that being, Homer *is* a dumbass, but he is one of the best father figure role models you'll find on television (even if he did lose Maggie in a poker game).

Scrotar 2002-06-17 04:32:56 AM
Al Bundy!

paradive 2002-06-17 03:15:12 PM
WHOAAAAA-BUNDY!!!

I_Dig_The_Longball 2002-06-17 07:46:37 PM
How about Robert Young on "Father Knows Best"? He and Ozzie Nelson BOTH were great television dads, I think...same with Ward Cleaver. Or Dick Van Patten on "Eight is enough".
