I think its less that someone would ride it down the hall as much as they would send it down the hall ahead of the soldiers hoping it would trip booby traps or draw sniper fire. At least I hope :)

Why the fark hasn't that been made into a movie yet? WHY? WHY?

Seriously, that's pretty stupid. If they wanted to use it to trip stuff, I would recommend a softball. Ideally with a webcam in it.

Scrotar 2006-04-14 09:12:43 AM
If it works the way I think it does, you could replace it with a good-sized rock.

I don't know about the anti-sniper thing. Maybe it'd be good for locating motion-detecting automatic turrets?

MadAfro 2006-04-14 09:13:47 AM
Not particularly useful against an insurgency? C'mon, I can't be the first.

Seems to me a folding mountain bike would be better, particularly if the urban zone has been torn up by firefights or shelling.

Scrotar 2006-04-14 09:15:48 AM
...because you never know where those automatic turrets will pop up, especially in insurgent country: All you need to make one is a corkscrew, a Kalishnikov, two rubber bands, a bungee cord and a trained monkey.

MCStymie 2006-04-14 09:22:34 AM
Ah, yes 720 degrees...The game of games...More fun to watch than play.

The Urban Combat Skateboard can be used by Marines to thrash and ollie their way into the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people.

/Y'see, Achmed, in free, democratic America you can make stupid amounts of cash by riding these.

StarshipPooper 2006-04-14 09:24:06 AM
Actually, this reminds me off that one half life mod. Fire Arms? Remember when you went prone? You could go super fast. You basically have a bunch of marines in the prone position going all over the place bayonnetting everyone. The insurgents will be screaming "Cheaters!".

FarkinHostile 2006-04-14 09:24:47 AM
Insurgents will now wear security guard uniforms to repel our troops.

Major_Tom_In_Space 2006-04-14 09:25:44 AM
At least they went for the cool option which is skateboards. Blades/Inliners are teh ghey.

Already have those. Good for basic transport, but not great for patrols (need hands to steer, so you can't hold weapons).

At last, perhaps the actual plan. Use them as creepers. Not bad. Very limited use, but not a bad idea.

SKATE OR DIE

God, that game pissed me off back in the day

Like MCStymie said, its actually called 720. They made a crappy C-64 sort of skate knock off called "Skate or Die", but it was 720 that had the boom box speakers on top that echo'd out "SKATE OR DIE!!!" with those damn bees.

/What I wouldn't do for a 720 cabinet
//ACtually, there's a LOT I wouldn't do. I just think it would be cool to play it again. But no more than $100 cool.

Good point. And I imagine faceplanting during a sudden mortar attack isn't tactically sound, either.

Nacho Daddy 2006-04-14 09:34:09 AM
Sorry, but the correct answer was "Semper Fi or Die."

Thank you all for playing.

Countermeasures are going to be really simple, though....just string the fishing line at a height to catch 'em around the ankles.

And this is the only "vehicle" to come out of that project? Bloody stupid program.

I know the game is called 720. When the time runs out it goes "SKATE OR DIE" and you usually die. I always died, anyway.

I really like how the bees changed into different shapes like a hammer or a syringe, pretty funny. Oh look, I'm out of change.

MCStymie 2006-04-14 10:01:22 AM
Skate or die, motherfarker, motherfarker skate or die! Skate or Allah will righteously strike down the infidel!

That game was bloomin' well impossible. Give me Mat Mania.

I'm sure you would all be happier if they spent $18 million developing a man-portable recon robot that could go down a hallway and find a trip wire.

Much better than this silly old $30 skateboard that does the same thing.
