Your website should provide useful information and be a credit to the IT world. I do not believe it should be used to incite the users.

Wait until he sees what this website is capable of doing.

This and the previous thread of the same story was a long but entertaining read.

Best "get off my lawn" story yet.

I used to love these kinds of people when I was in tech support. I wanted to hug them, and squeeze them, and bop them over the head with a mallet.

From TFA: Your website should provide useful information and be a credit to the IT world. I do not believe it should be used to incite the users.

I rather think it does. I learned several things.

1: Never work in Tuttle.
2: Elected officials are, by and large, complete tards.
3: Managers are, by and large, complete tards.

(Okay, points 2 and 3 are pretty obvious to anyone in IT anyway, but...)

I am computer literate! I have 22 years in computer systems engineering and operation. Now, can you tell me how to remove 'your software' that you acknowledge you provided free of charge? I consider this 'hacking.'

Ahhh politicians, as trustworthy and reliable as ever, I see.

I do not follow instructions that show up when a website that I am not familiar with appears on my computer and I do not think anyone with experience would do so either.

Those freaking instructions are "contact your sysadmin/webmaster". That should be the Weeners, regardless.

I'm going to post a response to his Register e-mail b/c I am sure he has shut down his e-mail address by now.

I only got help after threatening to contact the FBI.

NO, sir. WRONG, sir. You still do not get it, you thick headed cretin! You did not "get help". You were not entitled to the help you received. You cajoled charity. You were like a retard trying to cross a busy street and someone decided to take pity on your stupid ass and help you across. You did not receive this pity BECAUSE of your ridiculous attempts at felony false reporting, but in spite of them. If you had actually contacted the FBI, this situation would have been much, much worse - FOR YOU!

BTW, the local newspaper for the town can be found online here:

http://www.tuttletimes.com

I wonder if they're aware how big an asshat they've got for a city manager. Maybe someone should contact them and let them know... ^_^

Okay, now it's just bullying.

Leave the guy alone. We all had a laugh, but now the focus seems to be on making the gent's life a living hell of harassment and public humiliation.

Did you folks learn nothing from high school?

jimmyjackfunk 2006-03-28 09:02:03 AM
ProfessorTomoe

That all depends if the city manager is already in hot water for something else of asshatriness(sic). If that is the case, that newspaper would run the story until the cows come home, which this being rural Oklahoma, you never know, that could be anytime.

I see no problem with this. The guy needs to apologize. He doesn't even think he did anything wrong, as far as I can tell. He could use a great deal of attidute readjustment right now.

/not usually this harsh in my opinions

Tuttle is a soulless little blob but isn't nearly as bad as Mustang, just down the road a couple of miles.

jimmyjackfunk is right, they're playing White's Heisman for all it's worth. There are like 23498324 signs all over town. But other than buttle.com, he's all they've got to offer the world.

PLEASE, EVERYONE:

"Jerry Taylor (the city manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma) IS NOT AN "IT PROFESSIONAL".

He is a EE. And a self important, blowhard know-nothing MBA jerk. Of standard stripe. With all this demanding FBI littered BS, Id bet my life he votes Republican

This isnt an IT guy getting bent -- OBVIOUSLY. Only an IT poseur (i mean this literally) could make such mistakes. By definition, the man is NOT an IT guy if he makes such mistakes.

Leave him alone? Why? He still hasn't thanked CentOS for helping. In fact, he seems to be of the opinion that they were obligated to fix the problem for him, and were only compliant after he threatened to call the FBI.

Cdn_Nrrd 2006-03-28 09:18:08 AM
ProfessorTomoe: What do you think he was doing to the CentOS people in the first place???

He was being an arrogant, incompetent twat. All of you with real-world jobs will know those are a dime-a-dozen.

Yeah, I think the e-mail exchange was as funny as all-get-out to read as well, but the current focus seems to be a mean-spirited attack by nerds who should know better.

exarch 2006-03-28 09:21:08 AM
Oh yeah? You think *your* Tuttle references are obscure?

-Yeah, if anybody said 'who knocked over the garbage?', I'd say Tuttle, 'Who broke the window?' Tuttle, 'Who wet the bed?'

- Tuttle

"Excuse me, but I also think some of the responsibility falls on their company web service provider who initially had no clue when contacted. "

This is because you dont understand what happened.

He phoned his Internet Service provider (ISP). And "explained" his problem. Your ISP has nothing to do with the servers you contact on the internet. His Web Server Hosting Service (in whatever incarnation that is) has "responsibility for www.tuttle-ok.org".

The ISP has no technical relationship to www.tuttle-ok.org any more than www.fark.com.

What likely happened is Jerry Taylor (idiot) phoned his ISP in a huff and dropped his ignorance on them... they either explained what ive said above, or didnt understand what the fark he was talking about (because, obviously Jerry Taylor (idiot) didnt know what the fark he was talking about.)

in short, Jerry Taylor is an idiot and deserves to be fired for his gross misconduct. Do people actually act this way and get away with it?

==============

IS THERE A LAWYER HERE?

LAWYER:

Is it legal to threaten, completely without reason, to "call the FBI"?

Is it legal to say "Unless you do XZY" (which you have no obligation to do), "I will baselessly accuse you of something to the authorities".

Could it be blackmail?

Is this intimidation/threatening actionable in any way?

I believe it is actionable to threaten legal recourse without cause (some kind of 'legal abuse') -- is there anything that can happen to this guy for this tantrum?
