"Another lawsuit, being filed by a Bellevue family whos young son's brain was taken as a "test" subject, says they never consented to the deal either."

And by "taken" they mean devoured. And by "test" they mean desert. And by "never consented" they mean they didn't have a shotgun handy.

I think they should have to pay in some way. Do jail time. If I don't get a cent, they do jail time.

Hey, that's not what I typed. Bah.

Supreme 2005-10-20 08:10:11 PM
Man, I hate this misinformation.

What they are talking about are ghouls. All modern "zombies" are really ghouls. Flesh eating, reanimated dead, etc.
Zombies aren't really even dead. They're more like mind-controlled sleepwalkers. In folklore, they're dead, but even then, they're servants and not "monsters".

BTW, who is that guy with the mustache? He seems to be the new cliche for zombie threads.

doodler 2005-10-20 08:10:14 PM
jordan_lund: excellent movie, totally enjoyed it.

Serious Here....

Asshats like this, who end up taking money out of everyones pockets, should be required to pay a percentage (say 25%) of their anual income for the rest of their life toward paying off this debt. Not bankruptcy or anything else should be able to dismiss this debt, nothing short of death.

Having a law like this would cut down on such asshattery.

Not to mention the fact that it would help them to repay and contribute back to society.
After all this is who is really affected in the end-all of things.

Supreme, thanks for that, I too am an undead expert thanks to D&D and AD&D and I'm pained at the misrepresentation in the media on the undead.

/ghouls? there is a word you don't hear every day.

LowbrowDeluxe 2005-10-20 08:41:20 PM
Not to get in the way of a good zombie/civil servant bashing, but the money they got appears to have gone to the county, not their personal gain. Which means this practice was accepted by their superiors. The idea of holding the specific coroner responsible seems pretty out of place to me.

Additionally, who farking cares? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how the fact that your poor dead son was buried minus his brain really changes fark all anything. Unless you were planning on consuming it yourself I completely fail to see how, permission or no permission, it's presence really adds or detracts in any way, or why you deserve to be able to sue the city for kajibullions of dollars.
Oh, oh, my poor son whose been dead for years was buried without his brain! Those evil scientists horribly emotionally scarred me retroactively by using his farked up brain to try and actually help other people! Without me knowing about it until now!

Seems like these days, if you take a sample of any 20 submissions on FARK, at least 1 will be about Seattle or from a Seattle website.

Is that because we have so many high tech workers killing timer here?

My insurance company employer has a filter that keeps me from going to FARK, so if I do surf at work I just go through the "Avantgo" version that I found when I google "FARK".

i think we can thank grave robbing for a lot about what we now know about human anatomy....

IronChefUNC 2005-10-20 09:03:33 PM
"DAD! You killed the zombie Flanders!"

"He was a zombie?"

00twan 2005-10-20 09:06:02 PM
just in case...

"The practice of robbing graves to facilitate scientific study of bones and cadavers is nothing new in medicine. In the early 18th century, Britain witnessed a booming trade of exhumed human bodies controlled by grave robbers when anatomy and dissection of the human body became an integral part in study of modern medicine."

I just watched Land of the Dead today.
I don't care what any of you say, I really liked it.

I DON'T like the idea of "evolving" zombies with an agenda of anything other than EATING us, but it was still a good movie!

Subversive 2005-10-20 09:17:25 PM
While zombies do like to eat brains of living or the immediately deceased while wandering around aimlessly, hanging out around where dead bodies collect and then "harvesting" them, including their brains, is technically a "ghoul" thing, not a "zombie" thing. Get your terms straight.

snailshell 2005-10-20 09:17:29 PM
Cremation is the only way to prevent zombification.

notmtwain [TotalFark] 2005-10-20 09:18:00 PM
Oh shoot! I've been harvesting brains for months in the UrbanDead zombie game. They're all organic and quite tasty with a little cocktail sauce.

00twan 2005-10-20 09:19:57 PM
yea the whole evolving zombie thing is not so great in land of the dead. i'm a huge fan of the trilogy, but it sorta kinda goes with the whole "they can learn" thing with Bubs. i HATED "big daddy's" vocalizations.......
other than that, enjoyable.

Subversive 2005-10-20 09:21:42 PM
I also agree with Supreme for the most part (although he is only allowing for zombies of the voodoo and/or corporate variety). I think we are essentially both saying that this episode here in the article is clearly an episode of ghoulishness, not of zombification.
