Cronie

I think it'd be funny if these rumors were completely false, and Bush announces someone different in 45 minutes. But she certainly fits the criteria, having shown loyalty and coming from his inner-circle.

Leonid 2005-10-03 07:22:53 AM
Looks like he woke up early for this one.

Yay, a woman!

Songbird 2005-10-03 07:23:27 AM
What are the odds that she will be called an extremist, radical, outside the mainstream, etc, etc, etc...?

voch 2005-10-03 07:23:33 AM
Let the games begin!

Oh yes, this will most certainly be a civilized discussion. No flaming here, no siree.

I know nothing about him and already I hate him.

skinink 2005-10-03 07:24:58 AM
I guess this means he's found something to distract us from the eventual resignation of "Libby" Scooter and Karl Rove for the Plame mess. Good show, old chap !

bloody murderer 2005-10-03 07:25:10 AM
The hell.

It's a 'she', and you can know that at least she's a crony.

Did someone call for monkey's flinging poo?

Timbomb 2005-10-03 07:25:48 AM
No judical record, hmm. The hearing on this should be fantastic. "I would like to take the Roberts postition, senator"

MILK FORCE NINE 2005-10-03 07:26:10 AM
Her Wikipedia page. Turns out she was Bush's lawyer for quite a few years and he appointed her to several positions, such as chair of the Texas Lottery Commission.

Lord of Allusions [TotalFark] 2005-10-03 07:26:19 AM
Former Lottery Commisioner, eh? So, if she's evades some questions at her hearing will it be Kennedy, Schumer, or Biden that makes some sort of lame gambling analogy first?

TotallyFarkedDude 2005-10-03 07:26:24 AM
Mot of us saw this one coming two weeks ago. Bush just repeats himself. It's nice however, that the MSM is finally waking up to Bushs's "inner circle" backscratching.

In the White House that hero worshipped the president, Miers was distinguished by the intensity of her zeal: She once told me that the president was the most brilliant man she had ever met.

Democrats commence whining in 3..2...

thetritoneterror 2005-10-03 07:27:45 AM
Hmm she's a laywer with no experience as a judge. Is it normal to appoint someone like that?

KentuckyBob 2005-10-03 07:28:11 AM
A quick rundown on the chica:

iers served as Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary. Prior to that, she was Co-Managing Partner at Locke Liddell & Sapp, LLP. Previously, she was President of Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell, where she worked from 1972 until 1999. From 1995 until 2000, she was chair of the Texas Lottery Commission. In 1992, Harriet became the first woman president of the Texas State Bar, and in 1985 she became the first woman president of the Dallas Bar Association. She also served as a Member-At-Large on the Dallas City Council. Harriet received both her undergraduate and law degrees from Southern Methodist University.

My GOD!!! She is a METHODIST....WE ARE ALL GONNA END UP IN HELL!!!

bloody murderer 2005-10-03 07:28:28 AM
Remember how last week Bush said "'diversity' will guide next pick?"

I'm glad that, to Bush, diversity means a white woman from Texas.

Glom84 2005-10-03 07:29:02 AM
No judical experience, yea that will work, another rock solid appointment....meh

HeartBurnKid 2005-10-03 07:29:52 AM
Miers, who has never been a judge, was the first woman to serve as president of the Texas State Bar and the Dallas Bar Association.

Shades of Mike Brown?

21-7-b 2005-10-03 07:29:53 AM
happydaddy to chime in with 'she's not that conservative' in 3..2..

Chum Lee 2005-10-03 07:30:00 AM
"Known for.. her low-profile"

That's an odd statement. Sort of like being famously anonymous.

photo in the washington post article looks like a freaking aliean. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/20/AR200506200116 1.html

bloody murderer

I'm glad that, to Bush, diversity means a white woman from Texas.

Why, how many white women from Texas are already on the Supreme Court?

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2005-10-03 07:30:25 AM
Hmm she's a laywer with no experience as a judge. Is it normal to appoint someone like that?

It is not normal but it is not unprecedented.

scratchnsmiff 2005-10-03 07:31:46 AM
She's not been a judge ever? Surely only judges should get promoted to the highest order of judicary

Uh... who?

That was my thought as well.

atomsmoosher 2005-10-03 07:32:14 AM
I am underwhelmed.

I wonder what the strategy was here?

zkm 2005-10-03 07:32:23 AM
The woman that broke the gender barrier of the Dallas bar association and was the first female president of the Texas bar and already the liberals are sharpening their knives. So female empowerment is only good when it happens to people on YOUR side?

MorrisBird [TotalFark] 2005-10-03 07:32:30 AM
Rumor has it she's not anti-choice.

MILK FORCE NINE 2005-10-03 07:32:37 AM
Wikipedia links to a Washington Post article about her, but with a summary glance it seems to be nothing but a fluff piece. The White House's press release is the usual spin, giving the appearance of saying something when in reality is saying nothing.

Here's her political campaign donations, she donated $1k to a democrat back in '87, but has donated to nobody but republicans since then.

Trying to find her political beliefs, history, etc.

Isn't a woman considered diverse in Bushs' neck of the woods?

jbtilley 2005-10-03 07:33:32 AM
Thanks for the warning. Now I know not to listen to the news for the next few months. I can't stand the party bickering.

nucal 2005-10-03 07:33:44 AM
My better headline:

"Harriett Miers pulls a Cheney and selects herself as Supreme Court nominee".

/meh

2wolves 2005-10-03 07:34:05 AM
She's been a citizen of planet Bush for a long time. What other experience does she need to be a Supreme Court judge?

Timbomb 2005-10-03 07:34:11 AM
Leonid: It's a 'she', and you can know that at least she's a crony.

Yeh, not an activist judge, but rather a Bush zombie. Yeh I'm going to start the drinking early on this one. In my defense, 'she' is rather manish.

bloobeary 2005-10-03 07:34:13 AM
So, she's an out and out partisan hack. Big surprise.

Bush is a dog that knows only one trick.

kingbighair 2005-10-03 07:34:26 AM
The real question here is, would you hit it?

Has she ever worked with Arabian horses? If so, yes.

True, but still does not seem to bode well.

*sigh*
